These water colors are so shimmery! Full disclosure - I'm new to water colors (other than the $1 container of Crayola ones we all grew up with). I don't have a ton to compare these to. I bought them to do lettering. I was so excited when I got them I did a really quick project to test all the colors and see how they looked. I'm super impressed! The colors are definitely dark, but no bold. I was afraid they'd be super transparent and you wouldn't be able to see them. Nope! They have a distinct color and a super amount of sparkle/shimmer. I love the pastels so much I'm going to order the bold set as well. I added a few drops of water to each pallet, waited a minute, then mixed. The colors were nice and rich. There's so much paint in each rectangle. These will last for ages! Like I said, I'm not a professional painter by any means. But if you want sparkly and shimmery watercolors that have a beautiful color, these are a fantastic buy! ... show more

This paints look gorgeous when painted on white watercolor paper. Unfortunately not so good if you try to paint on black paper. The color gets completely lost and all you see is a pearl shine. Even if you do many layers.

I bought these to use as a background in my coloring books. I used the blue in A Frog's Tale and it was beautiful. The paper is the old no one likes Amazon paper and the color was great.

The colors are vibrant, and very beautiful. They even mix well with no-pearled watercolors. They have a very strong coverage and are more opaque as regular watercolors, except for the white, which seems to be the most translucent of the set. Personally, I love these because they are so inexpensive, so I don't feel like I wasting money experimenting with them, and just enjoying the look of them on paper for no particular purpose. 5/5 I will definitely purchase these when I run out, which will not be anytime soon since the pans are a very generous size. I will most likely even buy the other two sets that Gansai Tambi make. ... show more

I purchased these to add to the rest of my Gansai Tambi collection. I'm not watercolor expert, just a card maker and aspiring letterer. The colors are pearly and beautiful! Creamy consistent and beautiful on watercolor paper. Don't be concerned if your pans have cracks, Kuretake assures this is normal and I can attest it doesn't change the consistency or quality of the colors when reactivated with water. You can spritz the pans with water with a mister, let them sit for a minute, then use. Not only are these paints great for card making, but it's also fun to watercolor letter with them too! ... show more
