  • Decent for a beginner Bass
Size: Upgraded Color: Black
I am a 54 year old metalhead that is finally learning how to play the Bass guitar. I'm still very new and getting more comfortable each day playing. I'm around 7 weeks in. I have a really nice 40 year old shortscacle Bass but I also wanted a full size to learn on. So I found this one on Amazon. I read some of the reviews and decided to get one. The price is decent, just about 100 with shipping. It arrived in factory fresh condition in a decent Styrofoam lined box. The brand on the guitar is Garry. I've seen them listed too on Amazon and they look the same so I'm not worried about it. The guitar body is very light. The finish is nice and has no flaws. The neck is very solid and smooth. It felt top-heavy at first but I got used to it after the first time playing. It has been mentioned in other reviews about a gap between where the neck meets the body. Mine has a tiny gap too. I'm not worried about it. The neck is solidly attached. How it sounds. I plugged it in straight out of the box. Tuned the strings with a clip on tuner and started playing. It sounded good, like a bass. It just sounded like it was a little dull. I played with the knobs some and was ok with it. Every night I'm practicing with it, getting more comfortable with it and liking how it feels. I did put a better strap on as the one that came with it was not that comfortable. Last week I had it tuned/setup at a guitar shop. It made a noticable difference. I don't know all of what was done to it but it feels better. Strings are closer to the fretboard and comfortable to use. Other reviews mentioned replacing the strings. I didn't since I am still learning. The sound has improved too. It sounds like it has what was missing more depth, less dull. I definitely recommend a tune. I think this will last me long enough to save up for a really nice full size Bass. **UPDATE** I did replace the strings with Ernie Ball Regular Slinky strings. More comfortable and a slight improvement in the sound. ... show more

  • Yep, it's a Glarry, all right, but I'm pleased.
Size: Classic Color: Sunset
I'll call it a "fortunate mistake", but at least it happened in my favor. What I ordered was the Ktaxon 4-string bass patterned after a well-known Ibanez bass and I chose "sunset" as the color as it was $10.00 less than any of the other colors I looked at, at least it was at the time I ordered it. What I received was a white Glarry-branded bass of the same model, and the white one was the one I would have ordered had it been the same price. The bass needed only minor adjustments (done by me) to make it very playable, although it played well right out of the box. That the bass is made by Glarry isn't a surprise, I suspected as much after reading several reviews. My experience removed any doubts I might have had, and playing it removed any doubts I might have had as to the quality of the bass. I love it and I think you will, too. The fretwork on mine is wonderful and the finish is flawless. The basswood body is very light and resonates nicely, and I play the bass on my lap and haven't experienced any terrible "neck dive" some people have mentioned. It plays well when used with a strap, too. That companies in Asia can produce guitars of this build quality, at the prices they charge, is amazing to me. I'm happy with my purchase and would definitely buy from Glarry/Ktaxon again. ... show more

  • Honestly pretty good but get new strings
Size: Classic Color: White
I’ve been wanting to get into bass for about two years now and already own two guitars and two ukes so i figured a bass would go good with what ive got going on already. shipping wise it came a whole week early which was awesome it shipped in two days. the actual guitar is not bad i’ve never played the bass so i have no frame of reference to how heavy this thing should be but its about nine pounds however i will say its a bit neck heavy. it doesn’t dive forward completely but it definitely wants to go that way. the pickups are a little bit off but not enough that it’s annoying just enough that i noticed. and the strings are absolute dog water but i was completely expecting that so it’s all good in that front. i plan on getting a pair of dr neons to go on it because i think it will look really nice against the black and white. and the tuners are actually not bad they are closed back and pretty decent. i mean if you’re willing to put like a little bit of money into it it’s great. it’s so worth it and i mean it’s so pretty and it looks real nice next to my tele so im happy. it’s 90 bucks but it easily could play like a 170-190 dollar instrument if you give it a little love :) ... show more

  • Pretty decent bass
Size: Classic Color: Sunset
This bass is really nice looking, the build quality is very good. The setup was pretty close & was playable right out of the box. I had to tweak the truss rod and dial in the intonation, but the adjustments were minor. Pretty good usable tones from decent pickups. Well worth the 50 bucks I paid. Get one. ... show more

  • quality as good as most similar very expensive items.
Size: Upgraded Color: Black
I've been playing since 1985. It plays as well as any fender, hofner or rickenbacher. The price is untouchable.

  • Surprise it’s a Glarry
Size: Upgraded Color: Natural
Ktaxon misleads you that you are buying one of their brands when in reality it is a Glarry. (See pictures) That beside, my initial thoughts upon opening and handling the “GLARRY” Bass guitar is that it feels decent but much much lighter than a good brand like Music Man. It wasn’t playable out of the box. Once it settled it had fret buzz and the strings are not good. I bought a set of DR Black Beauties and stripped the old strings while the strings were off I treated the fret board and neck with Guitar Honey. That gave it a very nice look and better feeling. I also graphene coated the body. After the new strings were stretched I made small adjustments to the truss, string height and pickup height. I also have a good cord. The bag and cord it comes with are not quality (I didn’t expect them to be). After these adjustments it plays AMAZING for a $79.99 Bass with the upgraded strings. The pickups are great for the price. I’m just a casual player that hasn’t played in many years. This “Glarry” Bass sounds almost equal to my Music Man and Washburn. Well worth the money once you get past the branding surprise. ... show more
