Description

The Kryptonite New York Lock Standard U-Lock features a 16 mm hardened max performance steel shackle with a double deadbolt anti-rotation design that resists bolt cutters and twisting leverage attacks. The lock’s disc-style cylinder with center keyway is protected by a vinyl coating and is pick and drill resistant. The keyway also features a sliding dust cover to protect the cylinder from dirt and debris when not in use. It includes three stainless steel keys with an ergonomic design to reduce torque and keep them from bending or breaking. One of the keys has an LED key fob for added visibility in the dark. Rated at 9 / 10 on our security scale, the New York Lock Standard is good for quick stops in major metropolitan areas and all day & overnight on college campuses, suburbs, and rural areas. It also includes our patented FlexFrame-U Bracket providing convenient multi-location U-Lock transport. The lock itself is great. The seller should take the second “new” out of the title because it’s easy to confuse with the New, NY u-lock from Kryptonite. That might be purposefully misleading but at the very least it’s unnecessarily confusing. The bracket is horrible. Not only are the directions virtually useless (seriously, watch a few you tube videos and don’t even mess with the written directions) but you need to mount it in a very specific way, which is not mentioned at all. The silver portion of this bike lock slides into the bracket to secure it. However, you really need to position this so the the weight of the lock is pulling it into the bracket as you ride. If you mount it another way, your lock falls off when you encounter bumps in the road. Unfortunately, in order to get the lock in that position it ends up taking more room under the top post of the frame and makes water bottle holders a little trickier. Supposedly there is another off brand bracket you can buy that works well. However, at this price point, the bracket sold with the product should work. There’s really no excuse. This lock is heavy and having to add it to a backpack is not ideal. It doesn’t typically sit evenly distributed in the pack which throws your bag off balance so the bracket is really needed. ... show more

I have bought two of these locks. My bike DID get stolen, but it wasn’t the fault of the lock. The thief cut through the iron fence I had the bike locked to and took the lock WITH them still attached to my bike. My only complaint is that the instructions provided never said what the extra mount was for and like an IDIOT I threw it away (TWICE T.T) until I saw someone else with their lock happily secured to their bike when NOT in use. These locks are heavy and unwieldy. I’ve been carrying them in my backpack. I’m sad to see the mounts are $20….don’t be me. ... show more

Yes, this lock is a great lock for protecting my bike, but it has some issues. I bought two, and one I couldn’t open and had to send back. I made the mistake of getting the ones with the mounting attachment, which did not work well for our two bikes. It is definitely something that will scratch the heck out of your bike if you don’t use it for its intended use, so I had to remove them both. So having one lock that I couldn’t open, even though I was able to return it and get a new one, that does not qualify for five stars. I use this to lock my e-bike. For that, weight isn't that important, but strength is. The bracket doesn't seem very secure and I don't use it. Locking and unlocking is straight forward. It is like using any other U-lock: the challenge is to get it close to something fixed (like a sign) that is small enough in diameter to allow the lock to go through frame and the fixed object. I use it in combination with a flexible cable so I can keep the wheels locked and to lock it to something fixed if I can't get the u-lock shackle around it. Hopefully it will keep the bad guys away. The lock it's self is very sturdy. I really like that it has a dust cover for the key hole. The clip on the mount is pretty stiff at first but it's just fine after it breaks in a bit.

Con: it’s tricky locking and I have to play around with it. Which the loop was a bit longer so I can lock my bike to thick posts and bike racks. Pro: nice quality, heavy and seems like the right lock to deter or slow down thieves.
