  • Pretty good cooler
Got this for truck driving. It has survived for almost exactly 2 years. However, in a few months, the red plastic tip of the plug melted so it wouldn’t work as the metal contact could not extend into the 12v outlet. I spliced another end from a broken appliance and it worked great. After about 1.5 years the fan started getting loud until it has failed. Seems to be a wobble in the fan because it will turn for a bit then stop. Then turn and stop and so on. When it was in its prime it would ice up drinks and keep things really cold all day. I left it on all the time when driving or sleeping. The only reason I unplugged it was when leaving the truck for a day or two off. It has been a great cooler. Time to get another. Very durable construction, it’s been bounced all over California’s crappy highway system and left in the hot truck during summers without warping or separation of the walls. Recommend it but beware of the contact tip melting. ... show more

  • Cheaply Made Cheaply Made
This was the product that wouldn't stop annoying me lol. It's a great concept, and the cooling part works fine, but the construction of the cooler itself is awful. First of all, the lid is built to be removable for some reason. This would be fine, however they way the designed it to be removable is by simply having two plastic rectangles that slide in to the back - they do not lock in place at all. The result of this, is half the time we opened it, the whole lid would come off. Then we'd have to realign them while in a moving vehicle to get the lid back on - so frustrating. Probably partially as a result of this, within the first weekend of use, one of the metal pins that held the hinge together disappeared. So now the lid really just kept falling off. We basically had to reassemble the entire thing every time we opened it. We did suffer through this because I didn't have time to replace it, but then THE WHOLE BOTTOM fell off. The plastic shell that covered up the insulation just stayed on the floor when we picked it up one day. So for this trip, every time we picked it up, we had to pick it up from the bottom or the whole thing would fall apart. We ended up duct taping it together. So now we have a pricy duct taped cooler that falls apart every time you touch it. Zero stars if I could. ... show more

  • The Road Trip.
In May, our only child moved from our home in Poetry, Texas to Portland, Oregon. We loaded a rental truck (which she insisted on driving the entire way) with her two cats and all of her worldly goods. I packed up our vehicle and with our baby pot bellied pig, Goblin, hit the road. Due to construction, unbelievablely windy spring weather, bee stings and necessary stops at rest areas, it took us nearly 48 hours to get there. This cooler was just about the only thing that actually worked according to plan. The Cooler- - is surprisingly roomy. A six pack of Diet Coke, a six pack of Red Bull, a lot of sliced carrots for Goblin, as well as sandwich fixings and even a small jar of mustard fit inside with no problem. - kept everything cold for the entire time. - was cold, but not frosty. That would still require filling it up with ice and then having to go digging for what is needed and stopping to drain water. - was powered exclusively from a cigarette lighter jack. - stood up to "oh crud" moments when, for one reason or another, I had to break quickly thus sending it sideways or down to the floor. - was easily picked up by it's handle in spite of being heavy. This unit has good insulation and was compact enough to sit on the passenger seat. If you are going to use it this way, I recommend positioning it so that the lid (which is quite heavy) opens towards the dash, since opening it towards the seat will most likely cause it to slam shut...on you. It is also important to remember to unplug it if your vehicle is stopped for a long period of time so it doesn't drain your battery. So why the story? To remind manufacturers that not all products are bought in a vacuum. We didn't need to stop in strange places in the middle of the night to get something to drink and we didn't need to find a grocery store to pick up snacks. It actually made our trip safer. - ... show more

  • Great little cooler.
Great electric cooler, I have been using this cooler for over a year almost every single day to carry water and sodas to work so I have put it through the "ringer" during that time. The first one recently stopped cooling properly so I just bought the exact model again but considering the abuse it has seen I'm not at all disappointed with the performance since this cooler is not really made for this kind of abuse but I originally bought it because of it's perfect size to carry around 6 drinks easily with a little room to spare and the fact that it is priced cheaper than anything in it's category on Amazon at least. Since during the summer I have used this cooler having to store it outside (in the shade) where the temperatures reach the mid 90's and I like my drinks to stay ice cold not just cool I bought 2 cooler ice packs that I put in the cooler every day to insure I had ice cold drinks on demand and this little cooler never let me down. The reason I left 4 stars and not 5 stars is because after about 6 months of everyday use one of the handles popped out of the socket on the side and wouldn't stay in correctly so I just drilled a hole into the center of both sides and inserted a 8-32 X 2" machine screw to keep the handles in place and the handle is still working perfectly to this day. Another negative I found is that since the lid is removable it will come out on one side sometimes if I try to open the lid one handed while driving and I ended up breaking one of the hinges because of it getting twisted while only one hinge was in place. I accept some responsibility for the breakage but if the lid was permanently attached this would have never been an issue in the first place. In conclusion this is a great little cooler for the price and should serve you well and probably last for many, many years unless you use it daily as I do, but most people will just be using it on occasional trips now and then. This little cooler is a great bargain in my opinion based on my experience with it. ... show more

  • Great Cooler! (If you use it properly)
Here's what this cooler can't be used for: to cool something down quickly, under its own power, that is warm or at room temperature. Here's what it does really well: it keeps cold food cold, or frozen food frozen, indefinitely, when it's used inside a cool air conditioned car. I use it mostly when I shop and have to leave perishable or frozen food in the car for extended periods. I've left the unit running for a couple hours (in cool weather) with the car engine off and there doesn't seem to be an appreciable drain on the battery. The temperature inside the unit will begin to rise as the car's interior heats up, since it varies about 40 degrees less than the external temperature, but once the AC's back on, it'll cool right down again. I haven't used it this way yet, but I assume if it's powered and then used as a standard cooler with ice in a mild (but not hot) environment, the ice will last considerably longer than normal. For coolest temperature, opening the unit's door should be kept to an absolute minimum. That being said, the unit can actually end up warming food or possibly overheating if powered in a very hot external environment. Don't leave it plugged in if the interior of your car will reach, say, 130 degrees; use it only as a standard cooler. Also, I did cut off the cable on the cooler, which is awkwardly placed in the way of the handle on the top, and put a plug there, so a new cable can be attached and removed as needed. I upgraded both the cable wire and cigarette lighter plug which were of low quality. ... show more

  • WOULDN'T TRAVEL WITHOUT OUR FUNKOOL!!!
My wife and I are on the road half of the month and we will never travel without a FunKool! We have the A/C adapter and take it into our hotel room, plug it in and enjoy keeping everything we need cold. We were tired of the constant mess with our ice cooler. Pools of water in the bottom! Always needing to add ice! Everything wet! Some areas cold, some areas warm! NOT WITH THE FUNKOOL! We've traveled with the FunKool for a year now and it's all been positive! The FunKool is an AWESOME travel companion! It cools down fast, keep everything cold and is large enough to hold an amazing amount of food and drinks. Even plastic 2 liter bottles stand up inside. The cooling unit is in the top, which makes the top a little top heavy, but the carry handle is designed to hold up the lid and make it very convenient to use. There's a little storage compartment in the lid for the cord and cigarette lighter connector. It's a handy, dandy unit worth twice the money!!! We wouldn't leave home without it!!!! P.S. The only caution is the unit draws a lot of 12 volt juice, so if your vehicle's cigarette lighter doesn't shut off when your ignition is off, you should unplug the FunKool to avoid draining your battery. ... show more

  • Almost Good, but Not
The unit does it's job. However, it seems to do so incredibly inefficiently. I have, on my auxialiary circuit, an android phone pulling 500mA, an Android tablet(Moto XOOM) pulling maybe 3 amps(and I'm high balling the figure), a spotlight charger(its battery powered so it's not actually drawing the power to run it on the 12v, just the power to charge it), a Wilson Signal Booster, and a car topper(Papa John's Pizza). I purchased this so that I can keep a sandwich or two, since I don't get breaks, and to keep some self sealing water bottles cool. I refrigerate everything prior to the shift and it works well, but it seems to draw too much power. As I understand the math this thing should be drawing less than 5 amps even at the lowest voltage my car could dip to. Android Phone 500mA Android Tablet 2500mA Wilson Sleek Signal Booster 500mA Battery Power Spot Light 350mA Papa Johns Car Topper 7500mA(it has a 7.5amp fuse, so that is clearly the maximum it could be) Koolatron P25 20,000mA(20 amps) There could be something I am missing, but to blow a 20A, 25A, and 30A fuse in the same week, this device must be drawing way more power than it should. All of my other stuff combined should be 10amps max during voltage dips. Also, the fuses never blew during low voltage, they always blew during higher RPMS while in motion. The higher the RPMS the higher the watts from my Alternator and the Voltage as well. The higher the voltage, the lower the amps should be. I'm at a loss as to what is wrong. EDIT: I didn't think this review took. I am modifying to notify that my concerns about the fuses has been overcome. The problem does seem to be from the splitter I was using. I have another more generic two way splitter that is just a nice extension with the kind of wire used in SAE interconnects like battery tenders. The connector/plug gets varying degrees of hot, but no fuse has busted in a long time. However my concerns over the lid are still present. It is a truly STUPID design. I have no idea the point of it, and its nearly impossible to prop it open in anything but a perfectly level place, which is not present in a car... I am scared that this thing could damage the bones of a person with weaker bones. I will still use it, but I wish it was better designed. ... show more

  • Missing Parts, Cheaply Built
This is an absolute waste of money. It is cheaply built! I wouldn’t spend more than $50 on something like this! It said in the description it comes with a removable divider - that was missing entirely. It does not close easily and the cord storage cover feels like it will break at any moment. Also one of the hinges was missing the pin so it just falls off the lid. I will NOT be purchasing one of these again and DON’T RECOMMEND anyone else does either. ... show more
