As many of us musicians get older, a couple of realizations set in: 1 We’re never going to win the lottery 2 We’re not going to become rock stars Our careers usually come to a crashing end while trying to recapture our glory days, we dramatically jump off a drum riser at a gig at a chicken restaurant and end up leaving on a gurney. On the way to urgent care, we can’t help but wish we hadn’t yelled, “Look at me, I’ve still got it!” before attempting a David Lee Roth-style leap. We also remember that we were being paid in chicken wings and now we don’t get any. This is when we older guitarists end up playing at home and getting back to the real reason we picked up guitar in the first place… aside from wanting to be accepted and impress attractive people. At that point, the need or desire to spend a fortune on effects goes away faster than my hair not responding to Rogaine. So, I put it to you my fellow guitar geezers, we may be past our prime and out of shape, but don’t we still deserve access to affordable guitar effects? (Crowd roars in approval!) That’s where pedals like the Koogo chorus come into the story. The Koogo is an affordable bucket brigade analog chorus. This results in a classic chorus effect that doesn’t overwhelm the sound of your guitar. The pedal can go from slight thickening to a more throbby tone while still retaining the character of the guitar. I can’t speak to the longevity of the pedal, but it seems sturdy and sounds great. In fact, it sounds as good as the more expensive chorus pedals I’ve owned through the years. Whether you are at the start of your musical journey or recovering from an ill-advised leap at a chicken restaurant, the Koogo is a great sounding and affordable pedal that I highly recommend.
