  • Excellent flushing in a beautiful toilet
Color: White
All American-made toilet. Excellent quality with nice rich-looking lines for a classic bathroom look. I had to return one and get a replacement because it broke during shipping. Make sure you check on arrival. Toilet/tank can break regardless of how secured the packing was. Now for the flushing mechanism. This is a 1.28 gal canister type of flush valve. There is nothing magical about claims of better flushing from one company to another. They must comply with the basic physics: the bigger the pipe, the better the flush. One reason Kohler can claim strong flush is because the larger (31/4") flush pipe, larger entire trap-way down to the outlet. However, the canister flush valve works differently than the traditional flap valve. When you press the lever, the canister goes up but drops and closes immediately as you release the lever, and thus only 1.28 gallon comes out. Unlike the flapper valve when you press the lever and release, the lever goes back BUT the valve stays up for a while until the water drops to a certain level then it closes. For those who want more water to go down in the canister type, just hold the lever down. In fact, you can empty the entire tank just by holding down the lever. That would be a massive flush that no bulk can remain. But for the most part, the 1.28 gal flush is sufficient to clear the waste because of the larger trap-way. I know that TOTO toilet flushes extremely well also, but I do not think they are as nice or have that pedigree look to it like this Kohler. Finally, it's hard to beat the free shipping and the price from Amazon. The combined shipping weight of the tank and the bowl is about 100 lbs. ... show more

  • Great looking piece of junk.
Color: Black/Black
Although I ordered this in July, this was a new addition to a newly renovated black & white shower/washroom. Great black addition, although dandruff and dust show up. Anyway, it was installed at the end of September. That's when all hell broke loose. This supposed to be a 1.28 gallon toilet. Kohler must have been psychotic when they designed it! At first, the filler valve stuck open and was replaced. Depending and how long the flush lever was engaged, the level in the bowl was low or high enough to get my genitals wet (I am not over slung!) Talking to Kohler, their customer support have no idea on how this toilet works/functions!!!. They did give me the fill valve, then the "flush unit" (didn't really a problem) and finally the 6 Flow Restrictors(sic) which control the "percentage" flow to the "flush unit" (These were from about 48% down to 25%). Even at 25% and having the the fill level at the required fill marking level (about ½-inch below the top) still makes the water level in the bowl too high. NOTE: My very first reaction before I changed any valves, "units", "percentage units", there was a KINK in the black rubber hose connecting the fill valve and the"flush unit". I replaced it with a slightly longer hose. Looking back at all of my machinations, this KINK was probably in Kohler's design! (It would in fact restrict the flow.) As my earlier careers, I was a scientist, physicist, chemist, etc., I find that the required tank level is much too high, the 25% seems best, AND (of course) the bowl level is dependent on how long you hold the lever down. Now it is 3 months later, and I'm still tinkering with BEAUTIFUL BLACK TOILET matching my BLACK WALK-IN SHOWER, and my BEAUTIFUL BLACK VANITY. Good luck to all you future buyers. ALSO, beware on Amazon, this toilet is sold as 2 parts and singularly. I would really want a return/refund and find a different manufacturer who might have a BLACK toilet of some better design! I've got around $1000 invested in this great looking piece of JUNK!!!! ... show more

  • Astonishing Service
Color: White
This is our third home in which we've installed these toilets, as they are very classic and definitely a much nicer look than regular toilets. The flat top also is a plus, as you can actually set things on it without them wobbling, as happens with other toilet tops with a slight curve. I must take the opportunity here to "plug" both Amazon and the Kohler company. We ordered three of these last October for a remodel, and did not reach the actual install stage until 3 months later. When we finally opened the boxes, one of the tanks and lid tops had been broken in shipment. Amazon said it was past the 30 day replacement window, but steered me to the Kohler company itself for replacement under the warranty. The Kohler representative immediately issued a Letter of Authorization giving Amazon the go-ahead to replace the tank and lid, and Amazon notified the company to send us a replacement. It arrived within 3 days. I can't say enough about how helpful the Amazon rep was getting me to the right people, and even providing the Kohler phone number for me. The Kohler rep also was "on it," issued the replacement authorization immediately with no hassles, and didn't even want to see a photo of the broken pieces. The take-away here is: open the boxes before the 30 day replacement period is up! ... show more

  • Looks good works even better.
Color: White
I bought two of these toilets. They are not cheap but my local water provider gave me a $175 credit for each unit which made them affordable for me. They were easy to install (after cleaning up the mess of the old units). I decided to install with stainless steel hardware because of the problems caused by the cheap hardware on my previous toilets. It is big but to be fair I really didn't check the size before I bought it. I lost about 1-1/2" of clearance in front but it's worth it. I like the additional height as I am 6' 2" tall. It uses hardly any water at all and is fairly quiet. It gets the job done. No bad experiences yet and I am not expecting any. I bought matching Kohler seats from my local home improvement center which probably cost me a few dollars more but I wanted to see them first hand before buying. My only beef is with the alignment of the of the seat mounting holes which did not allow me to perfectly fit the seat to the bowl. Both units had the same issue. I doubt that anyone would even notice it but it still bugged me a little. All things considered I am very happy with my purchase and would recommend to my friends. ... show more
