First off, the frame looks almost exactly like the picture, which is always good. It is very solid and while I can't tell what wood it's made from, it's obviously real. The hardware is also amazing. All the screws tighten into pre-installed metal nuts or into slotted barrel nuts. These additions make the frame sturdier while also reducing the chance of splitting the wood. While sleeping on it, it makes some creaking sounds (which I actually enjoy) but nothing out of the ordinary. It doesn't move when I shift which. The other thing I wanted to mention was that this had the best assembly instructions I've ever seen. Not only was everything labeled with numbers that were tracked in the instructions and also on removable stickers on the pieces, but it was COLOR CODED! You can still make some mistakes, but they really went above and beyond in trying to make this as easy to assemble as possible. Some important things to note: 1. You NEED two people at least to build this. You can do most of it with one person but there are a couple steps that absolutely require two people. Three people would be even easier. 2. When it says to leave all the screws loose before inserting the seating/sleeping section into the legs/frame, DO IT! If they aren't super loose, it will not fit, and you could accidentally break it. 3. Don't forget to install the metal brackets under the legs. I almost did and I was so happy to see even more care put into the product by including more hardware for extra support and durability. Overall, I am super happy with my purchase. It is a great futon. Very sturdy and it seems good quality. Matelass is very good and comfy. We use it as second coach for reading in our home office room and also as a guest bed when need it. I highly recommend it for quality and also it looks very nice

I just built it. haven't used it yet. This was by far the easiest piece of furniture to put together that I have ever assembled. Would have been easier with two people, but I did it just by myself without any trouble. I would recommend watching the assembly instructions on the website first. I watched how to put together the back, then paused the video and went and put that part together, The seat is almost identical to the back. Then I watched the rest of the video and assembled the rest. The slats come strapped together, making less overall pieces to identify and mess with. I recently helped someone put a different brand futon together and there were a million pieces to sort through and organize. This was so simple compared to that. Also, the allen wrench that came with this is pretty big. I did use a screwdriver with an allen tip, but the included tool is pretty good compared to the tiny things that come with most furniture and is certainly usable. A few tips: Open the hardware carefully, You will be pleasantly surprised. Its all laid out and labeled for which step they are for. When you get near the end to the step where you are putting together the arms/base, it says to keep the bolts on the extenders loose. KEEP THEM LOOSE. Like really, really loose. It will make the next step of sliding in the top sooo much easier. Mine were not loose enough and I had to loosen them to get the top to slide into place. Make sure the top is open/flat when sliding it on top. Seems obvious, but I wasn't really thinking and it was easier for me to pick it up by myself while folded. Unfold it! Cumbersome to pick up flat, but easier to slide into place once it's on top of the base. And this step probably would have been a lot easier with two people. I stupidly fumbled around trying to maneuver one side into place with it folded and the bolts too tight, by myself. More work than necessary. Just make sure bolts are very loose, seat and back are flat, and get a helper. Everything else is very intuitive and easy to put together, but like I said, the video on their website is super helpful too. I'm really looking forward to using this. I got my second box today and decided to start building! It took a couple hours but the instructions were clear. There was an available video but I did not use it. I do want to talk about Kodiak. This is my first time purchasing from them, but wow what a team! While I was opening my boxes I was checking all the parts. And I was missing some. I didn't need them to finish the frame, they are 4 little covers for the screws. But I did email them anyways, and they replied so fast! And they immediately sent the parts I want. I got a tracking number before I even finished. The futon frame itself is really nice. I love the espresso color, it seems strong but I did also tell the household to please not drop yourself into it like a couch, I don't want to take that risk and find out what could happen. I didn't buy the futon itself from Kodiak, I bought a very thick full size corduroy futon. It looks great, I love it. Pretty great frame. I’ve had it a couple of months and recently figured out how to transition it to a couch position with a 6” thick mattress and thought that I’d write a review to help others. It was easy to put together with the supplied tools (and especially true because the slats that support the mattress are pre-joined with straps so instead of lining up 8 or so slats you just have to line up 2 sets that are color coded for extra ease). It took me about an hour to assemble. It is very sturdy still (but I kept the included Allen wrench tool underneath just in case it starts to squeak), but due to the thick mattress and 2” topper I bought I found it hard to put it up in the couch position by myself. I bought some straps and attached them to the “back” on each side but I still struggled to get it to fold. After watching the video on their website I saw that you also have to press in the middle of the mattress where the frame hinges underneath. I then rerouted the straps to the middle of the frame (there’s a crossbeam there) and I can now easily convert it by pulling on the straps from The middle of the frame (re: you only need one strap in the middle) while stepping in the middle of the mattress to raise it from bed to lounge (which is awesome!!) or couch positions. If you’re looking for a futon frame I would highly recommend this one, but know that those who are needing an extra firm mattress might need to get creative. I’m 170 lbs and the firmest mattress I could find is ok for me but when my SO is staying over it sags/dips. I may end up lining the slats with plywood and going with stiff foam liners instead of a mattress. ... show more

This is a nice, well built futon frame. My reason for not giving it a higher review is because the frame slants way back in the upright position, at least it’s too far back for me. If I try to sit on it I end up with a horrible back ache. For me this is probably best suited as a guest bed, not as a convertible futon. ... show more
