This is a nice, solid futon. If you are willing to spend over the $200-300 range of cheap futons, I think this is your best choice! Granted, I just had this thing set up one day, but it looks so nice, is comfortable, and sturdy! I’ve read a TON of reviews of different futons around this price, and from what I read, Kodak futon mattresses are the best. This one holds up really well; as a sofa it is comfortable but also holds its shape really nice; as a bed mattress… it’s alright… you can definitely feel the springs, but it’s not like you’ll feel the mattress as something too bumpy not to sleep on (and it is soooo much better that the hardiness of cheap futons). If you put a thick blanket on top I am sure it will be great, but even without it I would be able to have a good sleep. Switching from sofa to bed isn’t as hard as other reviews in other Kodak futons have said; one single person can definitely do it, though you might have to go from one side of the futon to the other to properly do it, which I don’t mind; the mattress folds well and although you need to put a bit of strength to get it to fold, it’s very doable (some reviewers said they had to take out the mattress to switch the futon’s form; I had no problem with that). The colors of the images are true to the actual colors. Assembly took about 3 hours, but it was just me without any help (this is doable, but the last step in which you lift the back and bottom frame into the sides of the futon is very hard to do by yourself, but between 2 people you shouldn’t have much of a problem). The only downside is that the futon is juuuuust a bit to tall for me. I am a small 5’5” man, and when I sit on the futon my feet touch the ground but if it was maybe half an inch shorter it would be more comfortable. I did though raise the mattress a bit and pulled it back to make it more comfortable and less sinkable (because the bottom is at an angle, if you don’t do this you sink a bit). It’s not too bad though and I am sure I’ll get used to it in a couple of days. I’ll try to leave an update in a couple of weeks or months as well. UPDATE AFTER 2.5 MONTHS This futon is holding up really well! I use it every day as a sofa and have no complaints about it! Nothing has broken nor seams to be already showing wear and tear. I usually sit at the same spot every time, an although you can see that it is a bit sunken on that spot, if you sit down on the edge of the spot you won't feel like you are falling on one side; plus, you can easily lift up the mattress a bit on that spot and there is absolutely no way of telling I always sit on that spot. I haven't really opened the futon to sleep on it, but I expect that once that is needed it will work completely well and will be comfortable. Overall, I am really happy with this purchase and I believe it was really worth spending a bit more than a cheap futon that might have structural issues after a couple of weeks and tend to be really hard/uncomfortable. I spent 2 months searching for the right Futon. I went to countless stores and left disappointed. I knew what I wanted my mom had a Futon I used to love. Then I came across this one. I didn't want to buy 150LB item and have to return it. This Futon came fast and it is so well made. Solid beautiful wood with a 500 LB rating. The mattress is matched great! Very comfortable. Clear and easy instructions. Well sorted hardware. I assembled myself in a few hrs. Even lifting the completed upper to the lower frame. Heavy but not impossible. Ok, I knew I was getting a futon, not a sleeper sofa. So looks wise etc it is what it is. I bought it for the price/look/& that it’s an actual full size sleeper, not a twin etc. The pricing fluctuates a lot between multiple sellers. The color effects pricing too. The Butternut matches my polyurethaned pine walls perfectly. It’s a futon. The lower portion is angled up, like a Sports car seat. It’s not flat like most couches. So your butt sits a bit lower. I didn’t find this uncomfortable at all. Maybe a tad harder to get up/slide off 🤷🏻♂️ And if you are laying down to watch a movie while in sofa position, you’ll be at a slight angle. That’s all. Sit up! Or sleep. Not both. 😁 You can feel the coil springs. You can also hear them. Like a metal binding noise. This means they’re working. They are providing actual cushioning. Most other futons are just densely packed cotton and ultra hard. ( & heavier) The best part about this is the size! It opens up to a real sleeper. A full size mattress, that takes full size sheets. And has a normal mattress length. It’s super easy to open and actually has 3 positions. the sitting, more laid back Lounge and full flat sleeping positions. 👍👍👍 No real complaints. It’s not memory foam quiet, it’s not hot either. Nor is it a real mattress. But more than fine for a wkend sleepover etc. My biggest concern is it breaking. It’s rated for 500# and I see lots of complaints. Not sure if users are jumping on it, or are super big people. We are 400# for 2 ppl and it’s more than fine. I wouldn’t load up 4 across or treat it like a trampoline either. lol. Maybe people aren’t assembling correctly 🤷🏻♂️ Arrived in 2 shipments, a few days apart. Packaging was great and no damage etc. Time will tell. Oh yeah, the little cushion button things are plastic clips. We don’t pick at them and we have a thin blanket over the futon. The sofa is just as other shoppers describe: it is sturdy and beautiful. We have not yet tried using it as a bed, but it is very comfortable as a sofa. The butternut stain with the light blue linen futon is lovely. The assembly takes some time (and definitely needs 2 people—at least for some of the steps); but the pieces are well marked and the instructions clear, with the exception, perhaps, of the step that involves inserting the nylon guides: the image on the relevant page did not make it clear that the washer needs to go on the side with the cotter pin (the clip that looks like a modified bobby pin), so we had to go back and redo that step. But although that was a bit annoying, it was not difficult. The pieces come in 3 packages: 2 boxes, one with the two side pieces + hardware, and the other with the stretchers, slats, and hardware; plus 1 bag holding the rolled futon. They are easy to move (the futon is the heaviest of the 3). As a further benefit, it looks like the assembled sofa can be taken apart quite easily: after loosening the bolts in the frame (the final step of the assembly), one can then lift out the slat-assembly from the cradle-frame. So, moving it should be quite straight-forward. An added bonus is that there is no smell associated with any of the components. ... show more

First I’ll say this is a great futon. All my opinions someone else could disagree but I love it. Price good too. I researched. Didn’t want to pay a fortune for something that will get used maybe few times a year when guests stay. The mattress is comfy. Thick and firm support but soft too. Could use on floor if didn’t have frame. Now pictures. From pieces out of box to completed. Luckily the mattress was okay cause the wrap had a big hole in it. Sidebar delivery wasn’t great. Person dropped off at front door, no knock, no bell ringing. I was looking at tracking and found it was delivered. It would have been nice to know it arrived and maybe person could have helped me get into house. I got it dragged in and to guest room. I’m not a super strong person but I also put the whole thing together by myself. When they say two people probably good to have two, at least for putting arms together and setting back/seating section on. Then for putting mattress on which is Heavy. But I got all done. Not in one day, I worked off and on for several days. Picture showing wall is how far away had to be to put in laying down position. I got one of the anti slip pads too. There’s a video of unwrapping mattress and noise it made. Sounded like knocking or popping. Oh be careful as you get close to having all wrap off cause it just unrolled real quick at me. No harm, no injuries. Just surprising. Overall I’ll give a 5++. Now my complaint is I now can not get put into sofa sitting position. The frame without mattress worked fairly easy. It is a little heavy. I did put mattress on the correct way with part to be on seat on the seat. There’s a tag to tell you, because of hinges. When I attempt to set it to sitting I can see the mattress is bending where it should but I just can’t get it to go completely into sofa. I’ll have someone help me soon and hopefully it will work and that nothing is wrong with it. But if stays in bed position for now is fine. In conclusion I have to say this is really a great futon. I’ve had sofa beds before with horrible mattresses but never a futon so I’m pleased that this is so comfortable. My guest will have comfy sleeping time. Thank you if you read all that. ... show more

Assembly was easy enough, took a couple hours by myself, having someone to help at the end is pretty necessary though. The instructions are easy to follow, the quality of the materials is good, my wife and I found it to be sturdy and the first night of having it, I feel asleep on it with the cat. The only issue I ran into is that many of the larger bolts come with a metal cam dowel attached, and I think in the machining of one, it was incredibly hard to get it off. I had to use a lot of WD 40, players, and the allen wrench with my wife's help to get it unstuck. There are exactly enough parts included, I feel for the price, they could afford to give you a handful of spare parts just in case. It's made in the USA (some of it anyway), and it looks like the inspection standards are higher than most things you buy online. It's one of the pricier options on Amazon, but I feel it's worth it. EDIT: I have had this futon for several years now and it's held up great across a move and having a dog and cat. This will last you. ... show more
