  • Don't second guess it. GO WITH KOBO!
I love this e-reader. It is my first one so I am biased, but I am extremely happy with this purchase. I'll make a list of pros and cons for easy reading. Pros: - Long battery life (I keep my charged when not in use anyway but it will last you a long time if you're a heavy reader) - Nice screen; you can adjust the brightness easily on the side, and the e-ink is nice on the eyes. You can also put it in dark mode if you want to. - Amazing customizability: you can change the font, the space between the words and lines, the margins, justification, font weight (like how bold it is), and set what the header and footers show. - LOTS OF STORAGE: 16 GB of book storage, how nice! Better than the 8 GB you get with the Kindle of the same price, yes? - Environmentally friendly: made of recycled plastic??? Uh, heck yes???!!! - BLUETOOTH! Can listen to audiobooks (I don't but maybe you do) - LOTS OF BOOK OPTIONS! You can connect to your local library system, transfer epubs through Calibre (super easy to do by the way), AND find LOADS of titles in the store. I have yet to find a book on my TBR that's NOT on the Kobo store. - Pocket Articles! You can read those on there too (I don't use it but again someone probably does) -THE SIZE! Super lightweight, can fit in my jacket pocket or back jeans pocket (I don't recommend that though, as the screen is really sensitive), and it is very portable if you commute a lot and don't like taking something heavy or bulky (which I do because I am a student). -COLLECTIONS: You can put your books in collections! Let's say you have the entire Harry Potter series on your Kobo, you can put it all into one collection for easy access and it will stay organized! -Highlighting: Just tap & and hold, drag, and release! Cons: - Screen response time is a tad bit slow compared to smartphones and tablets, not a big issue but still something to note. - Keyboard residue: If I type an annotation super fast then the previous key's shadow will remain until I leave the annotation screen. This happens to other buttons too but it seems to resolve itself fast so this isn't a big issue either. - A bit hard to annotate. Sometimes when highlighting, if a new annotation is right below the previous one it will select the previous annotation on the same page instead of the one I'm trying to make. A bit frustrating but you just gotta remove the previous one and make a single one on that page. -DOES NOT come with its own charging block. It comes with a charging cord but not the block, you'll have to get one for it. -Not many options for cases. I've looked around on Amazon for a case, and luckily I found one that I like. Not great options, but there are cases out there. I can't think of anything else to say about this device. Again, it's not perfect, but I couldn't ask for a better device for my needs. It is a great alternative to Amazon and is based in Canada (if that matters). Most e-books are cheaper, and it's great for when you don't have a lot of room or money for physical books, no matter how great the feel of paper is. I was thinking of getting a Kindle, but I ultimately chose this one. It is cheaper than the Kindle (well cheaper than the device-equivalent Kindle), more user-friendly (from what i've heard on Reddit. I consulted the threads on there for help lol), holds more books, AND it's made out of recycled plastic. So much better than my 10-in iPad I was reading on. I don't regret buying this AT ALL, and consider it a well-made investment. I love it, and will probably continue to go with Kobo for the rest of my days. Hope this helps, cao! ... show more

  • Almost perfect eReader. Would buy again.
RATING: 4.61 stars -- among smaller eReaders withOUT external storage slots (microSD etc). I would buy again. (slight deduction from previous 4.65 star rating, due to occasional boot-up bug). Note: This case fits the Clara 2E perfectly: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BJPWBVRW CLARA 2E Pros & Cons: PROS: + It loves .epub file format (the most common, open source format, also loved by most libraries), and some others -- MUCH smarter than some competitors that use proprietary/encrypted formats. + Easy to side-load books, or to add books via free Calibre software & a PC. + Overdrive built-in (borrow available library eBooks, etc for free). + Small, lightweight. About same dimensions as a Nook Simple Touch. + Great battery life. WEEKS with moderate use. + Text clarity, and backlight if I need it. Easy to read in direct sunlight or at midnight. + Ability to directly delete a book at any time when done reading, right on the eReader itself. + Plenty of memory space -- thousands of ebooks will fit... but it's not expandable. MODERATE TO SERIOUS CONS: - No removable/expandable storage (no external Micro SD or similar slot), so you can't expand memory that way. I knew this before purchasing, and did not deduct any points in my rating for this poor design choice. ~ Sometimes takes far too long to boot up, or gets 'stuck' during bootup. Normally boots in a minute or less, but sometimes keeps spinning unless you press the power button again after a minute or so. This is inexcusable, and could be fixed with a software update. MINOR CONS: ~ Comes with a short-ish USB-C type cord for charging. No wall plug (use your own plug, or plug into a powered USB slot on a PC to charge your eReader). ~ Need better options for organizing/grouping books. ~ Touchscreen not always as responsive as desired (swipe works better to turn page). Bookmarking a page sometimes take 3 or more tries. ~ Occasionally hesitates, or freezes (esp. during bootup)... touching screen or power button usually kicks it back into gear. Future software updates may lessen this problem? ~ Favors their own $ Kobo store over free Overdrive books (you can search with either, it's just a bit more difficult than necessary to specify Overdrive). VERDICT: More than 4.5 stars, less than 5. Let's call in 4.61 stars. ... show more

  • Simple, Easy to Use, Great!
We purchased two kids kindle readers thinking our kids would easily be able to use their readers to access library materials for free through Overdrive and independently load them to their readers. We found the Kobo Clara because of how disappointed we were with how the kindle process works. For kids, the Kobo Clara is superior for its ease of use, simplicity in the process of downloading library books, and great readability. Our kids were checking out books within minutes with a very easy sync to their public library accounts without having to go to a separate computer to check things out, without having to perform an additional step of loading the book to the kindle from within the Amazon website, and without seeing recommendations for shopping/books based on the household adults' reading/shopping history, which I consider to be a big flaw in the current kindle set up. If your intent is to use your reader a lot for library books, you will be happy with the Kobo Clara! ... show more
