  • Don't second guess it. GO WITH KOBO!
I love this e-reader. It is my first one so I am biased, but I am extremely happy with this purchase. I'll make a list of pros and cons for easy reading. Pros: - Long battery life (I keep my charged when not in use anyway but it will last you a long time if you're a heavy reader) - Nice screen; you can adjust the brightness easily on the side, and the e-ink is nice on the eyes. You can also put it in dark mode if you want to. - Amazing customizability: you can change the font, the space between the words and lines, the margins, justification, font weight (like how bold it is), and set what the header and footers show. - LOTS OF STORAGE: 16 GB of book storage, how nice! Better than the 8 GB you get with the Kindle of the same price, yes? - Environmentally friendly: made of recycled plastic??? Uh, heck yes???!!! - BLUETOOTH! Can listen to audiobooks (I don't but maybe you do) - LOTS OF BOOK OPTIONS! You can connect to your local library system, transfer epubs through Calibre (super easy to do by the way), AND find LOADS of titles in the store. I have yet to find a book on my TBR that's NOT on the Kobo store. - Pocket Articles! You can read those on there too (I don't use it but again someone probably does) -THE SIZE! Super lightweight, can fit in my jacket pocket or back jeans pocket (I don't recommend that though, as the screen is really sensitive), and it is very portable if you commute a lot and don't like taking something heavy or bulky (which I do because I am a student). -COLLECTIONS: You can put your books in collections! Let's say you have the entire Harry Potter series on your Kobo, you can put it all into one collection for easy access and it will stay organized! -Highlighting: Just tap & and hold, drag, and release! Cons: - Screen response time is a tad bit slow compared to smartphones and tablets, not a big issue but still something to note. - Keyboard residue: If I type an annotation super fast then the previous key's shadow will remain until I leave the annotation screen. This happens to other buttons too but it seems to resolve itself fast so this isn't a big issue either. - A bit hard to annotate. Sometimes when highlighting, if a new annotation is right below the previous one it will select the previous annotation on the same page instead of the one I'm trying to make. A bit frustrating but you just gotta remove the previous one and make a single one on that page. -DOES NOT come with its own charging block. It comes with a charging cord but not the block, you'll have to get one for it. -Not many options for cases. I've looked around on Amazon for a case, and luckily I found one that I like. Not great options, but there are cases out there. I can't think of anything else to say about this device. Again, it's not perfect, but I couldn't ask for a better device for my needs. It is a great alternative to Amazon and is based in Canada (if that matters). Most e-books are cheaper, and it's great for when you don't have a lot of room or money for physical books, no matter how great the feel of paper is. I was thinking of getting a Kindle, but I ultimately chose this one. It is cheaper than the Kindle (well cheaper than the device-equivalent Kindle), more user-friendly (from what i've heard on Reddit. I consulted the threads on there for help lol), holds more books, AND it's made out of recycled plastic. So much better than my 10-in iPad I was reading on. I don't regret buying this AT ALL, and consider it a well-made investment. I love it, and will probably continue to go with Kobo for the rest of my days. Hope this helps, cao! ... show more

  • Better device than the equivalent Kindle
I have both a Kindle and this Kobo that I acquired within a few months of each other (my Kindle is the equivalent size/price range), and the Kobo is by far a better device. No ads, cleaner page refresh, and better color temperature & backlight range. I am a prolific reader so I primarily source my ebooks through my public library (via Libby), and the upload process on the Kobo is the same as on my Android, so easy-peasey. To upload to the Kindle I have to take an extra step, and some of the library ebooks aren't compatible with the Kindle. If I'm taking an ereader somewhere with the potential of losing it I take the Kindle, as it would be way more upsetting to lose the Kobo than the Kindle. ... show more

  • Excellent replacement for my old Kindle
Well, my old Kindle finally died. I plugged in my charging cable and it just laid there. So I ordered this Kobo Clara 2E, and "activated" it, and it does almost everything the Kindle did and lots, lots more. Activating was a little confusing, but they offer several ways, including your Google ID or email address. It will use all the formats I'm likely to ever need: epub, mobi, pdf, rtf, and others. It lets me load books into it through the data cable - but there's something you need to know. The first time you connect it with the USB cable, YOU MUST BE PLUGGED INTO A USB PORT ON YOUR COMPUTER, not on a hub or splitter. Got that? Muy importante. No, I have no idea why. After that, it will work on a hub with no problem. Pros: you can brighten the screen, from gray to blinding white. The default setting is fine for me. It's water proof, so if you're out camping and reading your Koontz novel, and a downpour hits unexpectedly, no problem. Or if your romance novel is too sad to bear, your tears won't ruin your Kobo. It will also let you organize your books into collections. When loading them, or viewing them through your computer, you can use Windows subdirectories so you can find what you already have, but the directories will be ignored by the Kobo. Cons: I haven't yet figured out exactly how to change the text size. You pinch it, and a magnifying glass appears, and you do it with that, and I accidentally got the size I wanted, but I don't know what I did. I've heard that it doesn't have all the fonts you might need, but whatever the default is works for me. The first time you load a book, or change from one to another, it's a little slow. But once loaded, the pages turn quickly. You should also think about buying the cover that's made for it. Make sure it's for the right Kobo. (<i>Case for Kobo Clara 2E - Designed for Kobo Clara 2E eReader Model number: N506 ONLY. This case will NOT fit any other Kobo eReader</i> ) I'm about to take it on a 2-month camping trip, so the battery they brag about should come in handy. ... show more

  • Kid approved
My kid loves it and we can easily upload epub books via Calibre on Linux.
