  • An excellent grinder for all my spices and dehydrated foods!
Still working well years later after purchase. I did buy an extra set of the bowls where the grinding happens and this really helps keeping the flavours separate when I grind multiple items on the same day.

  • Small grinding cup hack.
To help keep the lid on the shorter cup for this grinder I used a small thick rubber band tucked under the bottom portion and then around the top. It worked wonderfully. Now I can use the smaller cups without all the mess I first encountered when I tried to grind my spices. I haven’t tried it yet, but will probably need to also do when I use the shaker top. ... show more

  • Great for coffee, herbs containers need work
The coffee grinder works wonderfully. The lids that go on the herb grinders do not seal so when using the herbs fly out unless you use press and seal or tape over the lids to seal them shut then they work great, just wish the lids fit better, they are pretty loose.

  • Perfect !!!
Remember to place the small lid on the cup before grinding herbs & seeds to avoid a mess.

  • Not Mr. Coffee, but willing to give a try...
Got this as a replacement to my Mr. Coffee that I destroyed while grinding cinnamon sticks. I read quite a few reviews because I didn't want to go through the process of buying another product for a coffee and spices grinder again. The Mr. Coffee grinder I had previously was very inexpensive and I don't remember where I got it, and I can't seem to find it... if I could have found it again then I would have repurchased it. I was that pleased with it. It was simple enough for me and that's all I needed. I only needed the coffee grinding function and would worry about spices at some later point. The Mr. Coffee grinder had a function where you put the beans at the level of your choice into the cup and then set the amount and grind (i.e. fine, coarse, etc.). Once grinding, the device would stop after the appropriate grind had been met. It was perfect!!! And at such a reasonable price point (maybe $19). So, I strolled across this item, double the price at the time of purchase. There seemed to be awesome bells and whistles described in the specialized Amazon 2018 guide this year. I picked the most reasonably priced option (this item, the KitchenAid BCG211OB) and one which seemed to meet my needs (at double the price point of the Mr Coffee that I broke and needed replacing). After getting the KitchenAid BCG211OB, I gave it a shot with my beans for a nice French Press this morning and I was very, very disappointed. It's.a disappointing manual grind (which I can do myself jerry-rigging with some other equipment and saving the needed cash this Xmas!!). I found this out with my first press yesterday, as I ground the beans nearly to espresso! (I have been more tactful today. Hahaha!). HOWEVER, this feature is great for spice grinding options, which the KitchenAid BCG211OB comes with two additional 'containers' - each with blades - to grind contents with tops for each. I don't know. I have a mortar and pestle. I was looking for a coffee grinder that could function as my old Mr Coffee (somewhat as a 'smart' coffee grinder, to turn off at the appropriate grind level) and to on a rare occasion grind those tough spices that I would be able to tackle in my mortar/pestle. I was trying to consolidate my steps. I'm not sure the KitchenAid BCG211OB helps me with this process. I do recommend it for its durability, as it is built very strong! It is a whizz to clean, just brush out any grinds stuck beneath a blade and rinse it out. It's even dishwasher safe. ... show more

  • I'm using it as a spice grinder. Very good, but not perfect.
I use this as a spice grinder and it does a very good job. I've only tried it with a few different whole spices but it was able to turn them into a fine powder in not much time, although I did have to take the lid off and stir the powder and regrind it to get the consistency, well, consistent. The unit I had prior to this was the Krups which seems to be so popular, and which I hated. It did a decent job grinding but there was no way to thoroughly clean it since the bowl was not removable (stupid design!). With the Kitchenaid, however, you can remove the bowl and wash it to get it 100% clean with no left-over taste/smell AND it grinds a little better than the Krups did. Overall the Kitchenaid looks nice, feels solid, grinds well and I expect it to last a long time. It doesn't get 5 stars, however, for a few small reasons. One, the powder does not stay 100% contained and so a little gets into the base which isn't super easy to clean because of the plastic "plates" that are in there. Not a big deal, but still the powder should stay in the cup or that area should be easier to clean. Also, there should be some sort of rubber feet to keep this thing from wanting to slide around. Lastly it would be nice if the model was available SPECIFICALLY for grinding spice...I feel like I paid $50 for a $40 grinder because I don't care about the coffee grinding cup. Overall it seems there is no "perfect" grinder. The Krups is cheap and grinds well but you can't clean it with soap and water and it has a low capacity. The Cuisinart grinds really well and you can fully clean it, but the motor burns out frequently for no apparent reason (and it's ugly). The Kitchenaid is cleanable and grinds well, but you may have to manually move the powder around to get the consistency you want, and you'll have to clean the base after each use. Overall, of the grinders under $50, I think this Kitchenaid is the best unit and overall I am happy with the purchase. ... show more
