The media could not be loaded. I have owned a lot of Kindles and always swear by their cases. This one is getting some early heat and I am not sure I agree with those reviews though I understand the concerns. Amazon totally redid the cover here. First off, I am someone that really knows leather. I sold high end shoes and bags in college. While this isn't really a "premium" leather, the discoloration many are complaining about is simply distress in the dye pattern. It is a design decision not a flaw. I like the look but think I would prefer something richer and softer from a premium cover. However, while other have complained about magnets and hold, I don't have that issue. I attached a video of me shaking this case with the Scribe attached, and it just seems to hold on. A drop will almost certainly result in it coming out but I think that is true of any magent case. The odd design decision, for me, is in the fact that this folds up from the top. It will take some getting used to. However, it is modeled after the iPad case and it really works for writing and reading. Just know that the sides are exposed. This case comes with a pen sleeve at the bottom. At first I hated it but as a Remarkable owner, I can say that they have eliminated losing your pen in your bag. Not always, but often, I would find myself fishing around for my pen in my backpack as it had detached from the side of the device. This little sleeve prevents that though it makes accessing your pen a bit more difficult. For $100, this case is a bit pricey for what you get. That said, if you just bought a Scribe, I think it adds value to the already large investment you made and, as such, I am recommending it even if it isn't perfect.

I loved this case at first because it had a nice texture, was easy to connect since my Kindle just basically stuck magneticly, and o could lean it at different heights. However, as I used it more, I found that my scribe was easily knocked out of place so it didn't feel secure. The folding stand also started to feel as if it wasn't strongly connected to the backside when I folded it over. The case material has proven to be durable, just not as all around protective as I had hoped. I find that it was a bit uncomfortable to hold, partly because the scribe is larger and heavier, but also it felt difficult to grip. I did like this better than not having any case. This was ok until I find the exact one I wanted.

Having ordered the cover as a part of a promotion last July, I chose the gray color. Having used the Scribe and cover for six months now, I have found the cover to be an extremely well-made piece. I would probably buy another if there were additional color choices offered. Contrary to what some reviewers state, this is a distressed leather piece. The markings are from the process involved in producing the piece. I have had some experience in leather production and understand the differences between full grain, top grain, split, and suede leather. Also, the difference between calf, goat, and sheep hides—the quality levels of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, and the procedures used in tannage. I have no direct knowledge of what type of hides are used in the manufacture of the covers. However, from the look of the grain and texture, I am thinking goat hide. As goat hide is a primary choice for book-binding leather, and insofar as the Kindle Scribe™ is an 'electric book'; here we are. For its intended purpose, the cover works well. For those that want combat grade protection perhaps not so much. I am happy with the cover. With proper leather care, it should have great longevity. I have attached a photo of my cover along with some leather-bound printed books over forty years old, (also bound in goat hide) for comparison.
