Overall: great guitar, wouldn’t hesitate to buy another I bought this as a ‘travel’ guitar that I could leave at my parents’ house in order to have something to play when I visit without having to check my nice telecaster on flights. The low price of this guitar makes that actually work. That said, it’s a good guitar even ignoring the cost. I think $50 in pickups and $3 in bridge height screws would make this a near perfect inexpensive guitar. Pros: Roasted maple neck, actual rosewood fingerboard Truss rod adjustment wheel at the bottom of the neck is a feature usually found on fancier guitars and this one works well Intonation was nearly spot on from the factory Frets feel very smooth Bridge has brass saddles Tuners feel nice The belly carve and forearm carve are nice Cons: Pickups are weak. It’s serviceable for a beginner guitarist or a travel guitar. They do the tele thing, but put a set of Tonerider Tele pickups in it and it’ll be great. The finish is not very nice. I don’t mind relic’d guitars but the actual paint itself looks and feels bad and the “worn” edges of the paint feel rough against my arm when I play. The bridge height adjustment screws are a bit too long and dig into my hand when I play. This is true of almost all Teles though. Easily corrected with some shorter screws. The “high fret access carve” on the back of the body is useless. The carve should be on the front of the body if you actually want to play high up the neck. The logo “KGD electric guitar” is dumb. The strings do turn your fingers black the first few times you play it.

I bought it because it was a double bound body and had the relic type finish. The price was good for a complete guitar! I got it and was very surprised that it was so good! The neck was perfect, string height great and intonation was dead on! So I opened up the controls and it had a good switch and full size pots! Pickups are OK, a little dark but those are getting replaced anyway. This inexpensive guitar is well worth the money!!!

Honestly I was extremely skeptical thinking it was going to feel like some cheap kids guitar but maaaan I was wrong. I saw a whole lot of vids and the guitar sounded great but sometimes you can actually get a feel for it especially if you haven’t played it yet. But wow the hype was real. I’ve playing many guitar from the typical name brands to the boutique guitars at namm and it’s right up there with them. It’s also a great guitar to build off of. Switch out the pickups the tuners and the bridge and boom new custom guitar. But honestly out the box I didn’t even have to set it up and the new was perfectly sanded down now sharp frets or buzz. I took it out the box plugged it in and it’s ready to hit a gig!

Guitar is okay, looks real nice but to be honest its not a lot different than the Fojill guitar that I purchased the same day here for 98.00. Both arrived in good shape from shipping. Tuners on this maybe a little better and seem to hold considering its new, but same neck thickness. Frets a little more polished on edges. Neither is bad though. Both arrived with low setups but Im sure could use a little tweaking. Pickups seem about the same which means neither have that real warm tone. Strings on both will be getting replaced. Slight difference in weight. So I'll give it that the hardware on this guitar is a little bit different than the Fojill but not sure its enough to justify 80.00 or more difference in price. Color scheme of guitars and distress looks almost identical and attractive. I will be upgrading pickups on both. I'm somewhere between 3 and 4 stars on this because of the fairly large price difference compared to the upgrade over the other being small.

Out of the box it’s absolutely playable and looks pretty cool. Frets were level enough to set a fairly low action. Front pickup isn’t horrible, but the bridge pickup is horrible. Now for the less than good news. The bridge is set out of line with the neck by several millimeters. This makes the string space to the edge of the fret board inconsistent. The spacing is correct at the nut, but as you move closer to the bridge the strings drift towards the high E string. I took a photo to show with green tape. I noticed it as I was installing compensated saddles. I’ll have to reset the bridge which isn’t a giant job if you know how to do it yourself. Sending this guitar to a luthier would cost more than it’s worth. I like the project personally and it will be a great guitar when I’m done. If your buying this to learn how to setup guitars, this is a decent project with a solid body and fairly serviceable maple neck.

I am very impressed with the quality of this guitar, It came playable out of the box,after a string stretching the tuners are holding just fine , I adjusted the truss rod for less relief and that was all it needed.! Pickups are okay but,I will replace them at some point? I would definitely recommend this guitar,it resonates really well.also ,neck is beautiful and comfy,not to thin or too fat just right !

First, the good... I mostly like the relic effort and the old-school butterscotch blond paint job, just like the original '51 Tele. Very cool. All 22 frets are reasonably smooth with not a single sharp end. The tone isn't bad for a cheap guitar, but it's a bit thin. The bridge pickup needs quite a bit of gain to get it to growl and sounds ok when it does, but I like the tone of the neck pickup, even though it's underpowered.. It is solidly built and comfortable to play, but only after a considerable effort, see below... The bad...There was no attempt at a factory setup, so it took hours of tinkering and adjusting the truss rod and bridge to get it playable. Ultimately it just would not stay in tune, as did its replacement. Minor complaints... The relic job actually looks great but it was only done on the body. The neck and hardware are all shiny and new, so It could look more realistic with a little more tarnish and dings here and there. No included gig bag means another $30. The ugly... This is my second guitar since the first one had the bridge installed off center, making it unplayable. I did get the above replacement the next day, so that's a small plus. Overall it's not a bad starter guitar, but for for the price of this with a decent pickup upgrade, the Squire Affinity at around $300 is probably a better buy although it won't have the relic touches. A little DIY sandpapering would take care of that.

I really have to brag on these KDG guitars. I’ve been playing for 50 years and I own some very nice guitars, but the frets, the fit, and finish are beyond good for any guitar, especially one with a $200 price tag! This Tele style makes my second KDG. I bought it to build a 1950’s Esquire and it did not disappoint! I had to relic the hardware, but otherwise it was a perfect platform! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
