  • Great feel and well priced
Color: Gateron G Pro Brown Switch
I wanted a mechanical keyboard for work that didn't light up like a rave or cost a couple of hundred bucks. I got the brown switches as I am mostly using it for typing in excel/word and in my experience red gives too many errors and blues drive everyone else around me nuts from the clacking. The key presses feel good and give a solid click without going too overboard. My typing is significantly faster then on my previous membrane board and I don't feel like I'm smooshing keys into a piece of rubber anymore. The matte finish on the board looks great and the color scheme with the light and dark grey keys and orange accents make it feel almost like a custom keyset. It comes with a key remover and mac/windows specific keys which is also a nice touch. The backlighting is subtle and looks professional so it works well in an office setting. Because the keys are backlit you can utilize it in low light settings and still read the keys. I use Excel quite a bit so having the Numpad was really important to me. This utilizes a condensed keypad which gives you all the utility without sacrificing too much desk space. The arrow keys being shifted over takes some getting used to if you are flying on a sheet but overall its worth it for having a smaller overall keyboard. Bluetooth worked right out of the box. I have been running it wired lately so I don't ever have to worry about battery life. I've only had it a couple of weeks so I can't attest to its overall durability. Other similarly priced boards have lasted under a year for me so if it can beat that Ill be a happy camper. Great entry board if you are just getting your feet wet with mechanical boards for gaming or if you are just trying to get something for work that doesn't break the bank or look rediculous in your office. Any gamer in the office will be jealous when they hear you click-clacking away. ( I've had a few notice already) ... show more

  • Not enough features for the price. Some build quality issues
Color: Gateron G Pro Blue Switch
First of all, the board feels very solid and the keys have minimum side to side or twisting motion. Bluetooth works great. I expect no less from a keyboard at this price range. Where it has issues: The two switches on the side for power and Mac/Windows mode are extremely cheap. For such a solid board, these two dinky switches feel like an afterthought. At some point I had dropped the keyboard while I was swapping keys (a relatively light fall from maybe a couple feet), and the power switch popped out of alignment. I'm happy that it's very easy to take the board apart to realign the switch, but now I see how those switches are very cheap and thin. I expect they will pop out or even break after a few months of daily use if you have a habit of turning it off to save battery life. My second issue is with the back-lighting. I have the white LED version, and I'm disappointed with the built-in presets and brightness levels. The backlight key is on the top right of the keyboard, so when I'm sitting with this keyboard on my lap, I frequently bump that key. Then I have to press it a dozen times to get it back to a solid backlight. Also, the backlight brightness doesn't have enough levels, and I find the lowest still pretty bright in a dark room. Unfortunately, they offer no software to tweak the lighting presets. Programming software should be included at this price level, but instead they just recommend some 3rd party key mapping apps. Lastly, I would have liked the Print Screen and Insert keys as a Fn+ key. Especially the Insert key, because it's commonly used in games like Flight sims. If you buy this, I just want to caution against using the power switch frequently, because it will likely break. Either leave it on 24/7 and hope the sleep mode is good, or use it with a USB cable all the time. Or just be very gentle with it. ... show more

  • Fantastic keyboard, but not suitable for writing code.
Color: Gateron G Pro Brown Switch
I liked this keyboard but ultimately ended up returning it. I'm a fast typer, 110+ WPM, and I do a lot of front and backend software development. I was really locked into my old fullsize mechanical keyboard (Logitech G610), and I could fly around that thing like nobody's business. On this keyboard, I found myself making navigational mistakes which were detrimental to my workflow. For example, I use the arrow keys in combination with shift, ctrl, home and end, to select entire words or lines of text quickly, or jump to the top/bottom of documents. With the arrow keys on the 96% Keychron being physically indistinguishable from the keys next to it, I had to look down at the keys to see where they were. After I thought I got the feeling of it, I'd try without looking, and would often hit an incorrect arrow key. Additionally, the strange placement of the home, end, and delete keys required similar effort to find and use properly. I didn't realize how big of a deal this would be for me, and I might be a little bit dramatic, but mis-pressing one of these keys was jarring to my productivity. I navigate through code with the arrow and home/end/shift/ctrl keys so frequently that it is second nature, as if they are one with my thoughts, just like typing normally. You know how it is, you don't have to think about typing, you just do it. Imagine typing words and you mistakenly hit the wrong letter frequently. It wasn't until after giving the 96% layout a try that I realized how important a full size layout was to me. So, what I did like about the keyboard was: * The ability to use a cable (not just for charging, but for actual keyboard-functionality), AND that the cable is USB-C to USB-A. * The brown switches are quite nice. They're quiet yet they give enough feedback that promotes confidence. * The color scheme of the keyboard. Plus, even on the white-only backlit keyboard, the number lock and caps lock light up red when enabled. I am missing the multimedia controls from the Logitech G610. The volume wheel and dedicated play/pause/next/mute buttons really come in handy when working from home and getting a phone call. The Keychron provides the same functionality, but they're only activated with the Fn key. You can change the board so that the functions are accessible without needing the Fn key, but then you have to use the Fn key to access the normal F keys. And for web development or working in Excel, that's a hassle. The Win/Mac LED indicators on the top right are silly for something that changes so infrequently (for me, at least). If you work on both a Mac and Windows, you might find it useful to know, but there is a toggle switch on the side of the frame to choose which OS you want the keyboard to map to. I just feel like they could have put some multimedia controls in that section. I ended up buying the full size Keychron K10 RGB. It has the same gripes with the Fn key and multimedia controls, but I really did need the fullsize layout. ... show more
