  • Very responsive fingerprint reader but a challenging one!
Style: For Single PC's
I wish I could have the confidence to remove the reader from my laptop if it's a flip design. Now, its cap is hidden in its box because I don't want to lose either of the two. So, I decided to keep it on my laptop's port. It is very responsive to my fingerprint and unlocks my computer after 1-2 seconds. I just expected that whenever there is a need to use it as a physical security key, it will ask for my fingerprint. Most of the time, the key can be used automatically if it is just plugged into the computer. I became anxious thinking how about if my laptop was stolen and this key is plugged in. Moneywise, it is worth it than Yubikey and other brands. Secure your Google and Facebook accounts now! ... show more

  • Works great with Windows Hello on Windows 11
Style: For Single PC's
Recognizes my finger immediately. Has bright blue LED on top that lights up when it's waiting for your finger. Haven't tried the FIDO capabilities with browsers yet, but for Windows Hello login it works great. This is MUCH better than facial recognition--My laptop has several different accounts, and I move back and forth between them many times a day. With Windows Facial Recognition, you can only use your face for one account, but with the fingerprint reader, you can use different fingers for different accounts. It makes it very fast to switch between accounts. Installation is not quite automatic on Windows 11 yet. Windows doesn't automatically recognize the fingerprint reader when you plug it in. You need to follow the instructions in the Kensington Windows 11 installation guide, basically there is an optional (as far as Windows is concerned) driver update you need to install to get the Synaptics driver for the device. It took me less than one minute for the whole process. You DON'T need to use the Kensington Verimark Provisioning Tool, which records your fingerprints, that is built into Windows Hello. After you've installed the driver, you can go to Settings->Accounts->Sign in options, click on the fingerprint section, and it will lead you through recording your fingerprints. ... show more

  • It has one quirk, but it's easy to solve and works great after that.
Style: Desktop version
There are times that the fingerprint reader won't wake up with the computer initially. The easy fix for this is to go into device manager, find this under the bio-metric devices category, go into the properties and uncheck the power management box that says "allow windows to control this devices power" or something similar. It works perfectly otherwise. ... show more

  • Successfully scans my fingerprint about 1/2 the time. Setup was difficult.
Style: For Single PC's
As the title says, it scans my fingerprint successfully about half of the times I try. I have no idea why. My sensor is clean and I don't use lotion or anything like that. It will scan fine and then an hour later after a meeting it won't. Setup was not automatic. Windows 10 didn't know what to do with it. I had to go to the site and search for a driver that would work. Would I buy it again? Probably not. Would I recommend it to someone else? Probably not. ... show more

  • works with windows 11

this device does work with windows 11 however it does mess up at times and loses its driver and reverts back to the driver that does not work

  • Check Optional Update section if you are having issues.
Style: For Single PC's
So I am using Windows 11 21H2 and all I needed to do was check out the optional updates in the window driver install. It wasn't quite as easy as the barebone instructions would lead you to believe and the Kensington website was not helpful. I only knew where to look because someone else had suggested it here. But in all, it only took me about a minute to get it to work right and most of that was me waiting for my computer to reboot (not needed but it's always a good troubleshooting step to take). I was a little worried it might not work with the USB hub I used for my laptop when it's docked but so far so good. If you just need a quick and easy way to scan for windows hello or any other supported biometric system on your desktop or laptop this will do just fine and not cost as much as some of the fancier ones. For me, I just wanted a way to use windows hello since my new laptop didn't even have a webcam! let alone one that would work for facial reconition. ... show more

  • Plug and play with windows 11
Style: Desktop version
Works perfectly almost all the time, false negative read every once in a while. Haven't had any false positives. False positives are what you don’t want because it basically just let someone that isn’t you into your computer. Small and compact. Got this after my horribly inaccurate 80%+ false negative reading BIO-key reader died completely. False negatives are so annoying so I’m glad the BIO-key is gone. This if for my work from home computer. My employer prefers biometrics over passwords and while it’s never actually been proven that finger prints are unique, it’s unlikely that someone with the same fingerprint will come along and try to access your computer. Overall this is an excellent product. ... show more

  • Not exactly plug and play...but it got it to work
Style: For Single PC's
I wanted to use this with a Windows 10 desktop installation. I was initially worried after reading some of the reviews that the device would not work due to driver issues. When I plugged it in there was no indication that windows saw it. The Windows Hello Fingerprint setting under Accounts>Sign-in options said there was no compatible fingerprint reader detected. I checked All Settings>Update and Security - Windows Update. There was an optional update for a biometric reader. I ran that update and checked my device manager. Under Biometric devices there was a Kensington Fingerprint Key but it had an exclamation mark next to it indicating some sort of issue. I rebooted the system and checked the device manager again, the exclamation mark was gone. In the Windows Hello Fingerprint settings it then allowed me to set up the reader my reading several fingerprint scans. I rebooted and checked the functionality with windows sign in and a password manager and they both worked. ... show more
