Description

With color-coded attachment points and handy pole sleeves, the two-person Kelty Late Start 2P tent is a breeze to set up. It also delivers excellent ventilation and reliable durability at an affordable price. The tapered tent measures 85” x 54” (at its widest point), giving you an interior area of 29. 5 square feet. The peak height is 40 inches. There is a single vestibule protecting 7. 85 square feet of storage space. The two aluminum poles are pre- bent to create extra room inside the tent. Pockets at each corner of the tent keep one end of the pole secure as you move around to deal with the other end. This prevents the common problem of tent poles jumping out of grommets as soon as you walk away. The tent has a single door. The walls are No-see-um mesh and the floor is tough 68 denier fabric, water resistant to 1800 mm. Internal storage includes a ceiling pocket. The tent body is protected by a waterproof 68 denier rainfly. All seams are sealed to keep the water out. The freestanding design means you can pitch the tent and then move it around to find the best site. This tent includes Kelty’s Shark Mouth stuff sack, designed to make stuffing easier. The custom-fit Kelty Late Start 2P Footprint (sold separately) can further protect your tent from wet ground, roots and rocks.

  • 4/4 nights, I set it up after midnight in the dark, and put it away at dawn with a breeze
Size: 2 Person
Best tent I had in a awhile. Took it out to the Mountain West, with the intention of night setup. It was a breeze---up in 10-15 minutes in the pitch black night. Combined with the under tarp, it was a good combo. in keeping me comfortable in temperatures ranging from 20 F to 70 F. Can't wait to use it more! ... show more

  • Bicycling tent - I like it!
Size: 2 Person
I looked at a lot of bigger lighter tents in the $400 to $550 range. They had universally a much larger footprint with two doors and vestibules requiring at least 4 stakes. If I had wanted a hiking base camp, they would be the way to go. But the complex setup and big footprint (not to mention thinner more fragile fabrics) are not ideal for cycling stealth camping. The Late Start is perfectly functional with just two stakes and takes perhaps a third of the setup time as say a Big Agnes tent and similar "freestanding" tents. Sleeves instead of grommets makes it faster as does only two poles and no hub. Comes with 10 stakes. Since I'm only taking 2, the packed weight comes to 4 pounds, 4.5 oz. About 5 oz more with the full complement of stakes. The only feature I might have cared about is no roll tie to tuck the vestibule door out of the way that I could find. I can tuck it out of the way, but a windy night would defeat that and cause flapping. I was also surprised to find a seam across the floor (sealed, but really)? My previous tent, an inexpensive Diamond model from the late 70's didn't have that. I really miss that tent, not freestanding but super simple 2 poles in sleeves and 3 stakes. Gave it to a German girl when I left after 6 months in New Zealand. So all I did was a quick yard setup, but that was enough to know this tent was good enough. That Diamond tent was quite a bit longer at 95" inside, which meant you could bring your panniers inside and still have sufficient room for two to sleep. Easy choice of course if opportunity strikes while I'm using this tent. Super roomy for one with panniers. ... show more

  • Great tent
Size: 1 Person
Room enough for me and my little dog! Set it on top of my Teton extra large camping cot! Easy assemble! Love the pockets you put the tent poles in! No need to worry about the poles slipping out! Rain fly buckles to the tent! And use zip ties to secure it to the cot! Durability will need to come on a latter review as I just bought the tent! So time will tell! ... show more

  • Nice tent
Size: 2 Person
Pretty nice tent for the price. Easy to set up and plenty of room. Only complaint is that the floor of the tent doesn’t feel to durable. It’s made of almost the same material as the side rather than a thicker material. I use pads underneath out of fear of tearing it.

  • Great Tent!!!
Size: 2 Person
Very easy to set up. Plenty of room inside for myself and my gear. Love the height. Easy to sit up and change cloths. Very light weight for as much room as tent has.

  • Seems like a good tent
Size: 2 Person
Have not tried it yet but I will update more on it later. Tend on using this for my motorcycle trip. My impression so far is that it's very easy to put up due to not having long slots that poles need shoved through. The mesh is reasonably good and lots of it for good airflow. The rainfly is the most sturdy and feels most durable. The zippers feel good and pretty hard to accidentally get caught on parts of the tent. My only concern is the durability of the bottom of the tent. It seems pretty thin but maybe it will hold up better than I am thinking. I would really not mind having the extra weight and paying the extra 10 bucks of the cost difference if the bottom of this tent was made with heavy duty material. UPDATE: I've gotten to use the tent and really like it. It held up to a severe storm that I was in. I was surprised that it didn't break on me that night. Wind strong enough to push my motorcycle over. The mostly mesh tent helps with the heat. ... show more
