Description

With color-coded attachment points and handy pole sleeves, the two-person Kelty Late Start 2P tent is a breeze to set up. It also delivers excellent ventilation and reliable durability at an affordable price. The tapered tent measures 85” x 54” (at its widest point), giving you an interior area of 29. 5 square feet. The peak height is 40 inches. There is a single vestibule protecting 7. 85 square feet of storage space. The two aluminum poles are pre- bent to create extra room inside the tent. Pockets at each corner of the tent keep one end of the pole secure as you move around to deal with the other end. This prevents the common problem of tent poles jumping out of grommets as soon as you walk away. The tent has a single door. The walls are No-see-um mesh and the floor is tough 68 denier fabric, water resistant to 1800 mm. Internal storage includes a ceiling pocket. The tent body is protected by a waterproof 68 denier rainfly. All seams are sealed to keep the water out. The freestanding design means you can pitch the tent and then move it around to find the best site. This tent includes Kelty’s Shark Mouth stuff sack, designed to make stuffing easier. The custom-fit Kelty Late Start 2P Footprint (sold separately) can further protect your tent from wet ground, roots and rocks.

  • Very nice, and it’s relatively light
Size: 1 Person
I am happy with this tent. It’s served me well car camping and doing short (5 mile) hike-ins to base camp sites. For a multiday through hole, I might cough up more money for something ultra light. It is extraordinarily easy to set up, is effective in heavy rain, and has just enough space for my pack under the eves. I just did the 21 mile Escarpment Trail in the Catskills with a few 2,500 foot gains. My pack was too heavy, and I’m now seconding guessing the weight of this tent. It’s not bad, but, it’s not superb either. ... show more

  • Our new family backpacking tent
Size: 4 Person
This was my first Kelly purchase in many years. Our family started using more REI products for backpacking over the years due to the easy return policy and discounts for members. Our REI Quarter Dome 4 finally needed replacing. After much searching, reading reviews, and comparing brands and models, the Kelly Late Start 4 won out as our best option for size, weight, usage, and cost. We’ve been extremely happy with this tent. It fits my wife, two daughters, myself, and our small dog perfectly. We have just enough room to fit our packs inside as well. The vestibule is good sized, allowing our boots and other items to stay dry outside the tent. The tent goes up very quick and easy. The color coding makes it simple. I can have the tent staked and up in about 5 minutes with no help. Total weight is great. It’s easy to pack and carry on long backpacking trips. The quality seems top notch. The tent doesn’t come with the foot print, but is sold separately. Overall I give this tent two thumbs way up. We will be using more Kelly products in the future, if this is what we can expect from all their products, built well, lightweight, and affordable. ... show more

  • Nice 1P tent
Size: 1 Person
The first night I used this tent it rained. Hard. I had the luxury of being in a cabin during the downpour but went out to the tent to sleep for the night and it was completely dry, thankfully. I did, however, treat the fly with silicone right out of the box which likely aided water repellency.....About the tent; setup is easy and the color-coded fly is helpful. The vestibule is functional but on the smaller side. It's a 1P tent so not exactly spacious inside but adequate for my 6'0" frame. A compact low cot will fit but due to the door shape and tent size I wouldn't recommend it. It's a pain to get in and eats up valuable space, stick to a sleeping pad. Also, if you are claustrophobic you may want a 2P tent as it can feel a bit coffin-like with the fly fully zipped. But hey, it's a 1P tent, that's to be expected. Construction is good as expected from Kelty. I haven't backpacked with it or spent multiple nights in it but I think for the price it is a quality product that will serve the intended purpose well. ... show more

  • Solid tent at a good price
Size: 2 Person
As a backcountry kayak camping guide, I go through alot of gear, and continually try new stuff out. The kelty outfitter pro has been a staple in the arsenal for client because they are simple and super durable. Based on that experience I opted to try out the late start, and am pretty happy with it. For a 2 person tent it's quite light and packs down to half the size of my Big Agnes blacktail. When up it takes up less camping space but is VERY surprisingly roomy inside. Extremely fast and easy to setup/tear down. My first thoughts I didn't like that it only has one door, but the single vestibule just makes it that much easier to fit in compact sites. It would be nice on hot nights to be able to open up the opposite side for airflow but it seems to do ok. My qualms are few but if I could change small details; Add ventilation opening on the top of the rain fly, it was surprising to see no vents as most Tents come standard. The rain fly has a guyline on the back opposite the door to pull it out from the screen but not on the "head" and "foot." It has some midway up for support in wind but I fear in big rain, the contact with the screen might allow for moisture inside. All in all, happy with my purchase and will put it through alot of use. ... show more

  • Perfect in-between, multi-purpose tent
Size: 4 Person
This tent is the perfect option if you might split time between car camping and backpacking. It actually could fit 4 people with the bent-pole/vertical wall feature creating more usable space. It is perfect for a couple if you want more space. When car camping, we use two inflatable twin mattresses pushed to the outside walls with a 1.5” Kelty sleeping pad between them down the aisle so our knees have some cushion when crawling in and out of bed. There is still plenty of space for travel bags or packs. I think it is still light enough for backpacking and you have so much space to work with. Setup is a breeze with the pole sleeves, pole clips, and color coding. It really only takes about 5 minutes to set up. There are multiple loops in the ceiling for clipping lights and gadgets and multiple pockets for keys and phones. Ventilation is good and the zippers on the rain fly and tent are both two-way for easy adjustment. You can’t go wrong with this Kelty tent. ... show more

  • Great little tent
Size: 1 Person
Easy to set up, adequate space in the 1P for me and some gear. The rest of the gear is easily stored in the vestibule. Just wish it was a little lighter for its small size and the amount of netting.
