  • Works on mu IPhone 13Pro but I suggest a lightning extender.
This product does work with my iPhone 13 Pro with a native Apple case. However some users have (correctly) said you have to actually plug in the product fairly hard in order for it to be properly detected by the phone. Since I didn't want to repeatedly do this I purchased some lightning case extenders off Amazon and used them for a better fitment. They themselves weren't perfect and required a little more finesse than I'd like but they produced a much more consistent connection that I didn't have to jan them in to the phone's port. So everything did work but I highly recommend you get port extenders because the quality of the lighting port on the end of the cable is poor and I guess the contacts don't make a good connection unless you really push it hard into the phone. Once I had connection though I never experienced a disconnect nor anything failed to work. I would still prefer having these lines versus using a battery powered one which I have owned for a similar model because I don't want to charge a battery for the very few times I need to use this Offsite. So that was good. It's unknown whether you could ever use this with a PC if you adapt the android connection to a standard USB. The documentation gives the impression it's for phones only. So please be aware of that. The level of focus on these is really great for things like reading print off of tiny electrical components and potentially also looking at hair follicles or other very small items. I took off one star for the quality of the lightning connector everything else seemed just fine. ... show more

  • Not a great replacement for a jewelers loupe
I thought I would get fancy and use this instead of the loupe to view the trichomes on my cannabis plants , but it turned out to be a mistake. Why the 3 star review? The plastic dome is too long, you have to literally press this against the buds to get a close up in focus view, and therefore end up immediately with sticky resin all over it that you cannot see through and its a pain in the ass to clean. Also, whoever at the factory put the QC sticker barcode on the tip of this should be castrated. I never could get all the sticker gum off even using rubbing alcohol and ended up with scratches on the lens trying to do so. And if you want one of these for cannabis, there is a 3rd gripe which really is no fault of the product but you have to hold this in one hand, your phone in the other hand, and it makes it very difficult to use since you no longer have a free hand to hold onto the buds when you try to press this against it to view them or move things around. To its credit, however, I viewed aphids on my plants using this and they showed up pretty good so it wasn’t all wasted. I went back to my loupe for trichome views and use this to look for pests on the leaves. But knowing what I know now I would not buy this again for what I had planned on ... show more

  • Works good for the money
very difficult to hold and get anything in focus. I can see why most come with a stand. I wish depth of field was larger. But for the price....its ok

  • Don't expect much at high magnification, but great for a little look-see. Tablet/phone only.
I have a number of microscopes, including a couple semi-decent binocular ones, portable handhelds, and even a lab microscope that I'm 3D printing, but I've never owned one of these inexpensive USB wand-type microscopes. It turns out, they're quite handy, and a lot of fun (for certain values of fun). I wasn't expecting great optics, and that's pretty much the case. The claim of 1600x magnification is pretty unattainable (to get 1000x you need an oil immersion lens) but that's kind of standard marketing-speak for these types of scopes. There's no separate focus and zoom control, so the magnification depends on distance to the specimen, meaning when the wand is in contact with the slide (or whatever), there are really only two attainable magnifications. I trotted out my microscope calibration slide, and took snaps at the two magnifications that were feasible when the wand was in contact with the slide. The finest markings on it are 10 micron (0.010mm), and the larger at 0.1mm. As you can see, at the highest magnification, the 10 micron lines are easily visible, but you probably can't capture any features much finer than that. The coarser magnification allows you to see features a little under 50 microns. So you can't really use this for your bacteriological research, but it's really handy for other things. For instance, if you have a stand, you can use it at coarse magnification for circuit inspection and soldering (though the field of view is a little narrow). I've used it for inspecting 3D resin prints (the clear picture with intersecting lines). Or, just for fun, cat hair (you can see the dander!). The app is serviceable; pictures you take (with a handy button on the scope) are stored in an album in the app, but you can transfer them to your device's photo album easily. Unfortunately, it only seems to work with my iPhone and iPad; while I can download and run the app on my laptop (a M1 mac), it won't recognize the camera. Anyway, as long as you know not to expect amazing optics, it's really not a bad microscope, and very useful for a lot of things. I do really wish it worked on my laptop; there's really no reason it shouldn't. But other than that I'm pretty happy. ... show more
