Kato track is both reliable and easy to use. The uni-joiner system makes solid electrical connections and they are easy to snap together and take apart without damaging the metal rail joiners. I used to use Atlas code 55 flextrack in my N-scale layout, but after finding out about Kato I do not think I will go back. Having the ability to have all wire and the turnouts above the layout offers a lot more flexibility, even though I do run the wires underneath for a cleaner look. Some purists will poo-poo the not prototype look of Kato versus the more accepted look of other manufacturers, but sometimes ease of use wins out. I was able to complete a lot more of my layout quicker and easier with Kato than other track systems, and for me the enjoyment is well worth the (for some) tradeoff of a less than prototypical look. Once you ballast and weather the track sections most people wouldn't even notice the difference. The straight track I ordered here works great for running longer sections. My only complaint is not with the product, but wishing they offered it in larger packs, maybe 10-12 pieces instead of the standard 4 track pieces per package.

I’ve been model railroading since the early 70’s. I started in HO with a Tyco set, then moved on to Atlas sectional track & flex track. I always had issues with de-railing and spotty running. As an adult I wanted to get back into MRR and went with N scale due to space restraint. This was around 2004. I bought a used collection of Kato Unitrack with Kato & Atlas engines. I thought running tiny N scale trains would be troublesome, but the complete opposite. Kato Unitrack was so easy to use. It snaps solidly together, the rail joints are always smooth with no gaps or mismatched heights. The sectional straight & curved track work perfectly with the switches. All of the switches or turnouts are powered, you don’t pay extra for a powered switch, yet they can smoothly be used manually if you want. Kato has a wide variety of lengths of straight pieces, many different radius of curves, bridges, end of line bumpers, crossover switches, Y’s, crossings, double track, elevated curves, & more. They all work very well together. Unitrack in my mind is bulletproof in operation. I built a double main L shape wall mount layout each leg was 10’ long and 24” wide with a 32” dog bone on each end to turn the trains around. One day I was running two trains, one on each main. I got distracted and walked away. I came back 5 hours later and both trains were still running. There were no derailments or stalling. I never had such smooth operation before. I’ve been telling everyone to buy Kato Unitrack since, I love it.

Bought this as an add on for my wifes Kato KAT20-853 N M2 Basic Oval & Siding track that I gave her for Christmas.We dont have a permanent train spot so my wife always got frustrated with putting together the old school track with pins that should really be tacked down. That always pull a part. So I decided to get this and she is so much happier with this track, she has set it on our thick carpet and used it with no issues, even on a guest room bed with no issues. She loves this set and loves the rerailer, and train setting tool all of it helps her enjoy the trains much better now. Plus this set is Made in Japan much better than the chinese made bachman Imo Supporting USA made products or our Allies made product is most important to me because quality is usually better and we are not giving our enemies our money to use against us.
