Style: A: Centron 500 - Ultralight/Ice Fishing
First off this is my second centron reel. I also have the 2000 model and liked it very much so I thought I would try the micro version. I have a presidential and a couple shimano reels that range from $65-100. They aren't top of the line but are very good quality reels. These centron reels feel just as good as they do. They cast as good, real as good and feel just as smooth. I'm not saying these are the best reels ever made but they are the absolute best reel you can buy for under $50 imo. The only possible points I see not lasting as long as my other reels is the drag knob and drag linkage feels just a little flimsy. I will say that they can catch big fish as I ran into a school of hybrid bass the other day and caught several 5lb fish very easily with no problems on the 2000 reel. I have it outfitted with kastking 12lb braid and 10lb fluro leader. Just to end with, this is a very good reel for the money imo. You can't go wrong here. Thanks for reading. ... show more

Got this in size 3000 to replace my really old Ryobi Silver Cloud, and boy have I been happy with this! You can tell it's not 100% buttery smooth like those $200+ reels, but man is it close! The bail never snaps closed on hard casts, so you never get snap back which was the biggest problem I had with my old reel. It clicks clear but not obnoxiously loud when the drag is pulled, it clicks like a $250 Penn reel. I caught 2 large mouth bass and a shoal bass on this within my 1st 10 minutes out. The 2nd large mouth was a shade under 8 pounds, fought like crazy, and didn't seem to bother this reel at all. I've been so impressed with the KastKing brand that I tried their Florocarbon line too, and have been impressed with it so far too! Best of all, it seems not to twist the line at all, which is a huge problem on many other reels. The good - Looks awesome! Super quiet when reeling. No bail closing snap-back. Doesn't seem to twist the line like other spin cast reels. Almost as smooth as the high-dollar brands. Feels expensive! The bad - The crank handle is a little small for someone with large hands. I've never heard of this brand before seeing it on Amazon. Overall, really impressed with this brand. There's no way you can beat this for the money, it feels better than many $100 reels, and almost as good as a $200 reel. **UPDATE** one year later Still my favorite reel. I've used the Centron in freshwater and the Summer in saltwater each over 100 times this year. The Centron is still 100% perfect. The Summer still has zero slop and works perfect except the drag no longer clicks... but let's look at it's price, the way I've treated it, and it's environment. Best price for it's quality. I have never taken it apart and cleaned it, ever. Salt water and Florida sun destroys everything, except this reel! I did just buy some reel grease, so hopefully that brings the drag click back. If it doesn't, I'll update. Still 5 stars! **Update again** The Summer's drag click has physically broken. The little spring loaded piece that makes the drag click was twisted and the tip was broken off. No corrosion at all on the piece so I have no idea what made it break. It did last a year and a half, roughly 150 days of 12hr+ Florida Salt Water fishing. That's about 1800 hours of abuse. Not bad. It's just unfortunate that a part that wasn't affected by rust was the part that broke, but it went out like a champ on a 38 inch Snook. ... show more

Loved the first one so much i just bought a second one. Liked the quality, finish, smoothness and the solid feel. Only thing i disliked is the cost for an extra spool. I loaded it with 6 lb braid for small fish but i also want to load it with maybe 10 or 12 lb test for bigger fish. I called customer service for another spool and the price was $12. The price for the reel was only $22. Why can't Kastking add a second spool and raise the cost a little? Just not more than half... ... show more

For several years I've been watching KastKing grow and believe they started selling on e Bay long ago. Watching this company grow, however, I was uncertain of the quality compared to some of the more familiar manufacturers, for instance, Penn Reels which I will use as a comparison in my review. Immediately opening the box and holding the reel in my hand this was a winner. Pro: * The 5000 has some good weight and make sure you acquire the proper rod to offset and balance. This 5000 is a great snapper reel! * It has a nice pushbutton break on the knob allowing for appropriate storage. * Very smooth spinning action right out of the box. * Easy forward and reverse switch accessible on the front base of the reel. * The drag is also very stable and smooth, and not wobbly like some other poorly made reels. * Overall well constructed and likely why the few extra ounces in weight. * $30 is a steal compared to the more expensive brands and you are getting equal or better quality with this KastKing. Recommended Improvements: * The reel felt a little heavier compared to comparable Penn model, but again you get quality and a great price with this reel. * Improve the timing or closure of an open bail. I opened the bail and started to spin the handle expecting the bail to close easily. It was not easy and took a more force that I am accustomed to however it might just require some break-in time. Regardless if you are looking for a reliable and affordable inshore reel or off-shore you can't go wrong. I'm proud to add this 5000 and soon a 3000 KastKing to my collection. ... show more
