Another great product from KastKing. I have several of their Kodiak and Sharky III reels and needed another small reel for a rod given to me by a friend. I took a chance on the Centron and am very pleased. Reel is very smooth and holds lots of line. Low cost but high on performance.

I typically fish 5-6 times a week for at least an hour a day in the summer so I put a lot of wear on my equipment. I consider a product good if I can get 2 season out of it with little to no maintenance. I hate to spend top dollar on rods and reels because I really am not gentle on them. They get thrown into my trunk, dropped in the water and what not. So far I have fished probably 20 hours with these reels and no issues. Right price and right quality as far as I am concerned. I will up date if I have any issues in the future. So now I have had a few seasons with them. For the price you can not beat them. Again I am not easy on my equipment and since I bought my boat I now fish probably 25 hours per week in the summer so these get used and used a lot. I typically get 2 or more seasons per reel which for the price is fully worth it. Now I just need to find a rod that will do the same. I usually only get a half of season out of a rod before they snap. UPDATE 4/22/19 5 star to 3 star: Now that I have landed a few fish with these reels I am not as impressed as I once was. I bought two reels and the one is still working fantastic. The other one I ended up catching like a 6-7lbs large mouth bass and it spooled it pretty good. I am pretty sure I flat spotted one or more of the bearing in the reel. I could understand if I had caught several large fish or a big muskie it doing this but after one large fish this is unacceptable. There is NO WAY I will be getting two seasons out of this reel. I didn't even get the 1st month. ******update*******2/27/23 So I will give these a solid 4 stars. If you don't want to spend $50 plus per reel these are great. I have 4 of them in my arsenal. 3 of them I leave on my boat and 1 I keep with me in the truck. For the abuse I put my equipment thru and the amount of hours I fish I can't see anything this price being better. For the average fisher this thing is going to last you a decade if not longer. I do more fishing in a month, during the summer, than most people fish all year. ... show more

This is an ultra light reel. I am using for crappie fishing. Very smooth reeling. So far I have liked everything about it. Filled it with 6lb. Test line. Drag works well. Would buy this reel again.

With 12lb braid this reel casts and reels very well with no binding. A month in, this reel really couldn't be better, and I consider it an excellent value. I've caught many bass on it. It doesn't twist the line in regular use which I appreciate. I flip the bail manually each cast, and watch for line not laying as it should. Got this in size 3000 to replace my really old Ryobi Silver Cloud, and boy have I been happy with this! You can tell it's not 100% buttery smooth like those $200+ reels, but man is it close! The bail never snaps closed on hard casts, so you never get snap back which was the biggest problem I had with my old reel. It clicks clear but not obnoxiously loud when the drag is pulled, it clicks like a $250 Penn reel. I caught 2 large mouth bass and a shoal bass on this within my 1st 10 minutes out. The 2nd large mouth was a shade under 8 pounds, fought like crazy, and didn't seem to bother this reel at all. I've been so impressed with the KastKing brand that I tried their Florocarbon line too, and have been impressed with it so far too! Best of all, it seems not to twist the line at all, which is a huge problem on many other reels. The good - Looks awesome! Super quiet when reeling. No bail closing snap-back. Doesn't seem to twist the line like other spin cast reels. Almost as smooth as the high-dollar brands. Feels expensive! The bad - The crank handle is a little small for someone with large hands. I've never heard of this brand before seeing it on Amazon. Overall, really impressed with this brand. There's no way you can beat this for the money, it feels better than many $100 reels, and almost as good as a $200 reel. **UPDATE** one year later Still my favorite reel. I've used the Centron in freshwater and the Summer in saltwater each over 100 times this year. The Centron is still 100% perfect. The Summer still has zero slop and works perfect except the drag no longer clicks... but let's look at it's price, the way I've treated it, and it's environment. Best price for it's quality. I have never taken it apart and cleaned it, ever. Salt water and Florida sun destroys everything, except this reel! I did just buy some reel grease, so hopefully that brings the drag click back. If it doesn't, I'll update. Still 5 stars! **Update again** The Summer's drag click has physically broken. The little spring loaded piece that makes the drag click was twisted and the tip was broken off. No corrosion at all on the piece so I have no idea what made it break. It did last a year and a half, roughly 150 days of 12hr+ Florida Salt Water fishing. That's about 1800 hours of abuse. Not bad. It's just unfortunate that a part that wasn't affected by rust was the part that broke, but it went out like a champ on a 38 inch Snook. ... show more

    • Ok reel, would be great if the bail had a better spring

This reel is very nice, not as light as I had hoped but it seems very well made for the price. Big complaint (same as several other reviews) is that the bail spring is weak and if you cast hard with the bail in the wrong spot it will close and completely fling off any live bait you have on or potentially snap your line if your knot isn't good. I knew about this before I purchased it and I have figured out how to avoid it so I still give this reel 3 stars because for the price its great! Hopefully the KastKing R&D folks can fix the bail issue, then this would be an easy 5 star reel....for 25 bucks it performs as well as my Pflueger's do, might even be slightly smoother and the drag is definitely better. I highly recommend this reel, just make sure you practice with it and learn how to avoid the bail closing fiasco. ... show more
