I would sell my dog to buy another of these. I have never used a better reel. Half the price of its competitors and with every feature you need to prevent backlash and throw giant baits. I use in both salt and fresh water and have had no issue wrangling anything from Bass to Bluefin!! With enough drag to stop a Mack Truck the only thing you’ll have to worry about is where to put all your fish!!

I love this reel. I at first bought it because I’m all about that striker green color. I also bought the Spartacus 2 rod separately because I wanted a medium rod instead of the MH that comes with the combo. Anyways I’ve been out on the Puyallup river here in WA state raking in pinks for weeks now and doing it with ease. I now have it dialed in to do exactly what I need it to do. I don’t know if this is a problem but I did have backlash issues when using braid. I’ve used 15, 25, 40, & 50 lbs on it and all just acted way too sensitive for me. But I’m going to call that operator error. I switched to a 15lbs mono thinking it’s just me and I need to get better at using a caster and I did get better or I think I did. With the mono line I didnt get any backlash ever. Just yesterday I casted over the river and into the trees and still no backlash. All I know is it’s been running smooth and perfect so I won’t be changing back to braid. This reel can work its magic with the line I have on it. PS: This is my first bait casting reel so if you’re like me wanting to learn to use one. I would say buy it.

EDIT: Ok so I have been using the reel A LOT and randomly during a cast it squealed. Now it squeals every cast like the spool bearing is bad or something. It's weird because it still casts perfectly smooth.. I just took it apart and oiled everything, we will see it fixes the issue. I have been wanting to get a left handed retrieve bait caster for a while now just to try it out verses my right handed one. Didn't want to spend 100$+ on one and finally gave in to this one for 49$. Caught the bass in the picture today with it, not a monster bass but it wasn't tiny either. Great working reel! I'm actually surprised how nice it looks and material feels. The one I have is like a matte textured feel to it. The reel is very light weight and compact. Fits my hand perfectly. (Medium gloves for reference) I used it today for about 30minutes and it took me about 4 casts to get the brakes tuned in. I am by far not a pro caster but I know how set the brakes. It casts and reels very smoothly. Actually reels pretty fast too, I had to make myself slow down my reeling. When I first held the reel the cast button acted broken when I reeled. Then I realized it was because from factory the spool tention was completely loosened and it wasn't catching. I just tightened the spool up and it works perfectly. (To anyone who isn't sure how to do so), first loosen the spool tension to where the spool slightly shifts back and forth and then tighten it just enough to stop the shifting, then on the 1-10 magnet brakes set it at 10 make a cast and after each cast lower the magnetic brake until you start to get a backlash, once you start to get a backlash you know to set the magnetic brake slightly higher. Plus of course using your thumb to stop the spool. I would easily recommend this reel to anyone. It's cheap enough a beginner can learn on it, someone needing a new reel, or even someone wanting an extra setup.

The reel worked great while it lasted. Unfortunately, that wasn't very long. Only worked for about 3 months before it failed. The worm drive stopped working and the gearing started to jam up. Tried contacting Amazon chat, but only ended up with having to contact the manufacturer or write customer service. Although the reel is on sale for Black Friday, can't push myself to buy another knowing I could get another lemon. Not worth the hassle spending so much time trying to find a reasonable resolution. Kastking has been presenting a lot of quality control issues. I own plenty of Kastking products, but I may start having to look elsewhere.

At first glance the reel looks cheaply built but after using it a few times it actually works great. I just had to adjust the brakes more than i usually do on some of my higher priced reels in order to avoid backlashing on every cast I’ve only had it about a month so the jury is still out on how durable it is so I will do a follow up review after 6 months of use. So far so good.

The seller is quite to ship and this real is the first bait caster reel that I think has a genuine system for no birds nesting! It’s lightweight, sturdy and in my opinion, it’s a good looking reel!
