When I retired my hands and elbows gave me lots of problems. The strength is leaving and my grip isn't what it was. After several times of the rod and reel flying from my hands on casts I saw the the kastking reels with a looow profile AND light weight. To cut to the chase I now own 2 KK Versus Assassins and a Spartacus 2. Am ordering another Spartacus2 today. These reels are inexpensive but certainly not cheap. Have caught a lot of bass with these reels up to 8 1/2 lbs. and never a problem. Casts light lures very well and 1/4oz casts a mile ( not literally😁). I wanted to put together an inexpensive combo to chunk in the car and leave in there. I went with the Spartacus II casting reel paired with the Crixus two piece rod. So far, the rod is great! No complaints. The reel though, needs to be built a little better. It works, it casts far, and haven’t had any real issues minus the drag. The drag is very weak. Little fish are ripping line out. If the drag is set too tight, the reel starts squealing. After a couple of weeks of use, it also sounds like parts are getting loose. The reel is starting to make noises during casting and retrieving. I’m going to try cleaning it and apply some new oil and grease to see if it helps. All in all, I would probably purchase this reel again. It’s great for pond hopping and small fish, but I wouldn’t put this up against any giants. ... show more

Just started using it, seems sturdy and I just need to fine tune it. Using it on a 7’ medium heavy for bass and crappie, will be testing for small bay fish soon. Smooth action in reeling, casts farther than my Old Abu 3000 series, but that’s to be expected. Will post back after it’s seen some salt water action. ... show more

As a long time tournament angler I was skeptical of reels at this price point. I must admit I am quite impressed, casts well, is quiet and smooth. Only used on two outings so far, but at this point I wouldn't hesitate to buy more of these. Time will tell how durable these are, and if I have any significant issues I will edit this review to reflect them. ... show more

EDIT: Ok so I have been using the reel A LOT and randomly during a cast it squealed. Now it squeals every cast like the spool bearing is bad or something. It's weird because it still casts perfectly smooth.. I just took it apart and oiled everything, we will see it fixes the issue. I have been wanting to get a left handed retrieve bait caster for a while now just to try it out verses my right handed one. Didn't want to spend 100$+ on one and finally gave in to this one for 49$. Caught the bass in the picture today with it, not a monster bass but it wasn't tiny either. Great working reel! I'm actually surprised how nice it looks and material feels. The one I have is like a matte textured feel to it. The reel is very light weight and compact. Fits my hand perfectly. (Medium gloves for reference) I used it today for about 30minutes and it took me about 4 casts to get the brakes tuned in. I am by far not a pro caster but I know how set the brakes. It casts and reels very smoothly. Actually reels pretty fast too, I had to make myself slow down my reeling. When I first held the reel the cast button acted broken when I reeled. Then I realized it was because from factory the spool tention was completely loosened and it wasn't catching. I just tightened the spool up and it works perfectly. (To anyone who isn't sure how to do so), first loosen the spool tension to where the spool slightly shifts back and forth and then tighten it just enough to stop the shifting, then on the 1-10 magnet brakes set it at 10 make a cast and after each cast lower the magnetic brake until you start to get a backlash, once you start to get a backlash you know to set the magnetic brake slightly higher. Plus of course using your thumb to stop the spool. I would easily recommend this reel to anyone. It's cheap enough a beginner can learn on it, someone needing a new reel, or even someone wanting an extra setup. ... show more

A very smooth operating reel that can cast a good distance. The magnetic brakes are a bit on the strong side so you might have to dial them down a little. Paired with a Kastking Perigee II rod, you'll have a great setup for throwing swimbaits, spinnerbaits, and chunky crankbaits.
