  • Nice Reel
Style: 3000
I bought 2 of the Kastking baitfeeder 3000 just to try them. I paired them with my old Penn Allegiance 7’6” inshore rods. The pairing looks perfect and their colors compliment each other like a perfect match. I have had several baitrunner reels from the older Shimano BTR to the newer Baitrunner D and OC. I also owned several Okuma Avenger baitfeeder, Okuma Salina baitfeeder, Okuma Coronado baitfeeder and Okuma Trio baitfeeder as well Daiwa Sealine Black baitfeeder. There was also a Tsunami baitfeeder. So, that being said I am not new to baitrunners. I pretty much sold everything except my Shimano Baitrunners. I currently have a total of 20 Shimano baitrunners of different sizes. So, back to the Kastking Sharky III baitfeeder. Appearance wise this reel IMO has very attractive cosmetics. I like the shiny black and red colors much more than the Penn Fierce and Daiwa Fuego LT. The spool appears to be machined nicely. I don’t care much about the extra spool but others might find it useful. There’s a lot to like about this reel. The bail wire is thick, the drag clicker is loud as well as the baitrunner clicker. The baitrunner clicker is the loudest among all the baitrunners that I owned. The Shimano Baitrunner OC is the quietest of all. The handle knob is very nice unlike the Shimano 4000 and the OC which I replaced all with Gomexus power knobs. I don’t feel like replacing the Kastking knob at all as by itself it looks nice and is comfortable. I don’t like the way the baitrunner switch is designed. It is like the old Shimano baitrunners as well as most Okuma baitrunners. In my opinion the direction to engage the baitrunner should be like cocking a pistol. I need to get used to that and keep it in mind that I have to flip forward instead of backwards. I also don’t like the design and quality of the baitrunner adjustment knob. It feels like it’s going to breakdown sooner. The reel is light and has very smooth retrieval. I don’t like the handle attachment because it’s not a screw-in. The handle is reversible. The line lay tends to concentrate at the middle. This is the best it could do after subtracting/adding shims. I ended up going back to the 2 shims that it came with. This reel will be used for light to medium fishing targeting fish that are no bigger than 10 lbs so this should hold up and serve its purpose. I will update this review after I use these reels a few times and I will comment about the drag and flex etc. But for less than $50 each, if this lasts a year it’s all worth it. ... show more

  • Great Reel at a Great Price
**UPDATE** Okay, so have used these reels for over 2 months now, including 2 weeks in the Florida Keys. I have 2 of the 5000 and 1 of the 2000. Let me say upfront, that I still say great reel and great price. We used these jetty and bridge fishing and they held up like champs. We caught 13 bonnet head sharks in the 1 to 3 foot range and 1 nurse shark in the 4 to 5 foot range; and good size stingray, and numerous snapper. We also used live mullet and hooked into several fish too large for us to turn around. We saw everything from tarpon, to barracuda, to shark running the mullet. These reels handled each situation, no problem. Operation was smooth and dependable. I am especially impressed with the 5000. The 2000 performed admirably as well on snapper, lady fish, hound fish, needlefish, and more. My only complaint concerns the 2000, and it may just be the particular one we received. But when the bait runner feature is activated, there is no audible click at all when something begins taking line. This made using it at night quite difficult. Other than that, these were nearly flawless. I do wish our 2000 had an audible line out clicker. I highly recommend these though. They have impressed me over the past 2 months of use. Ecooda Maelstrom Baitrunner With Spare Spool Spinning Fishing Reel Best Baitfeeder Spinning Reel With Carbon Fiber Drag Great Live Liner Reel For Live Bait Fishing (Maelstrom 5000) Received the 5000. Initially it wasn't as smooth as I had hoped, but it was shipped with minimal lubrication. Prior to discovering this, I contacted the seller and they were willing to replace it immediately. However, giving ti a quick basic lube produced the desired results, and all was fine. On to the reel. It is solid, smooth, and comfortable to use. came with the extra spool and 3 additional washers for the drag system. The drag and the baitrunner drag adjust easily and turn freely. Everything about the reel looked and felt good examining it out of the box. I then took it to the Tennessee River to test it out. We went to a location that we knew would produce some big carp, as we wanted to test the integrity of the reel. It didn't take long until we had one on the line. I was very happy with the reels performance. The drag was smooth as could be. Over all, since receiving the reel, I have landed at least 6 fish over 30 inches long, and probably a dozen more between 24" and 30". The reel has performed remarkably. The baitrunner feature performed exactly as needed and allowed line to play out with ease. Some of the fish made 4 or 5 hard runs into the river current, and the drag performed flawlessly. I have been so impressed, I have ordered a second 5000 along with one for the smaller 2000 for our upcoming trip to the Florida Keys. Once we try it out there, I will proved updates to the review. But having brought in several big fish now with no problems, I anticipate no problems landing the fish we will be targeting down there. ... show more
