  • The Royale Beast
Color: Right- 6.1:1
It seems to be pretty solid. it has a bait alert clicker , it's pretty comparable to the kapstan 300 with a few differences, great price point, it's going to be great for both body of water

  • Chunk of a reel. Runs well.
Color: Right- 6.1:1
This looks to be a good, solid workhorse reel. Basically, appears to be a more budget-friendly version of their Kapstan reel without the stainless components and not as well sealed for saltwater use. For freshwater use should be about the same I'd think but at a better price point. I got it to use as a big swimbait/glide bait reel and for striper in the Bay. Also would be good for large catfish, A-rigs, trolling, and similar heavier uses. Seems good so far. No real complaints with it. Weighs just over 11 oz. Nice long handle and comfortable grips. I'd prefer mag braking since it's easier to adjust but I won't be changing baits a lot with this one and they'll all be heavy. The centrifugal braking works well enough. I've fished baitcasters for +50 years so my thumb is pretty well trained, but I had no problem fishing this right out of the box as it came with none of the brakes turned on. Compared to my Lexa 300 this feels bigger. Weights are about the same. Not quite as comfortable to palm for me but I'm used to the Lexa. I think the side plate would be better without the line test indicator which I doubt most will use. I wouldn't say that it's uncomfortable but doesn't have as nice of a feel as a more simple, smooth plate. Not quite as smooth overall and a little more gear noise to it when reeling than the Lexa. It's not grindy, in fact, it's pretty smooth, just a little noise to it. Has a stronger drag than the Lexa. And greater line capacity. And it's about a third of the cost of the Daiwa so completely different price levels. No drag click but it does have a bait clicker that's very loud and provides enough resistance that you could leave it free-spooled for bait fishing. Also a clicker in the spool tension control. Drag feels pretty smooth. Overall, a nice beefy baitcasting reel for the money that looks to be well made, feels substantial, and performs well. ... show more

  • Nice Smooth Long Casting Reel
Color: Right- 6.1:1
I have another 300 style baitcaster from Kastking that I regularly use and I like their reels. This one is no exception. Like with any reel, there is a minor learning curve to dial it in, and I only took it out once for a spin. My first impression of the reel is that it is solid and I just need more time to get it dialed in. If I am wrong, I will come back and update this review. I spooled this reel with 20 lbs mono. This reel holds a tremendous amount of line which is great for long casts or trolling. I put on a 130 whopper plopper, throwing it on a 7'6 medium heavy casting rod. After properly adjusting the tension, I was getting some epic distances on casts with a good deal of force. I was absolutely thrilled at the distance I was getting. The reel was very smooth. After about forty five minutes of casting though, I started to get a few backlashes when casting with force. The line, midcast, seemed to go through a loose state on the spool. Sometimes the cast pushed through it and all the looser line came off the reel, sometimes it backlashed. I tried messing with the tension and never got it dialed in perfect like it was when I first started casting, but it was late, I was tired, and it was getting dark. The reel is beefy, feels good in the hand and the 35 lbs of drag is more than enough to handle big fish. I like that this reel has a clicker since if need be, I can use this reel for both throwing big baits for bass, or tie on a catfish rig and put it in the rod holder for cats with the clicker on. Overall, this reel seems like a good big baitcaster at this price point and might be a good budget friendly swimbait reel. I will be throwing a lot of big topwater this summer on this reel, so I will have a chance to become more familiar with dialing in the tension. I plan on coming back and editing this review after really using this reel more extensively. ... show more

  • Strong and Smooth Reel for Heavier Fishing
Color: Left- 6.1:1
This baitcasting reel feels solid and built for heavier fishing. The red and black finish looks really nice, and the metal body has a sturdy feel without seeming cheap or flimsy. The handle is longer than the ones on several other reels I have used, which gives better leverage when reeling under tension. The large foam grips are comfortable and easy to hold, even when my hands are wet. The reel has plenty of line capacity, which is helpful for using thicker braided line or fishing in deeper water. The spool turns smoothly, and the 6.1:1 gear ratio gives it a good balance between speed and pulling power. It retrieves line quickly enough without feeling like I have to crank the handle too fast. The drag also has a strong range and adjusts in small steps, so it is easier to find the amount of pressure I want. I like the built in line indicator on the side because it helps me remember what type and strength of line is on the reel. That is especially useful when several fishing setups are stored together. The clicker is another nice feature because it gives an audible warning when line is being pulled. The controls are easy to reach once everything is adjusted properly. Like most baitcasting reels, it also takes time to adjust the tension and braking system. Someone new to baitcasters may deal with a few tangles while learning the correct settings. It is worth starting with tighter settings and slowly loosening them as casting gets more comfortable. Overall, this is a strong and smooth reel that feels made for larger fish and heavier line. It has good capacity, comfortable handles, useful adjustments, and a solid drag system. It may be more reel than a beginner needs for casual pond fishing, but it is a nice option for someone wanting a heavier setup for freshwater or inshore fishing. ... show more

  • Nice baitcaster
Color: Left- 6.1:1
Nice reel! It reels in very smooth and tracks well. Very easy to adjust the drag and fine tune it for maximum casting and pulling in. Has two large handles to hold on to. Very comfortable and fits on any of my rods. Worth the money for this one.

  • Long casting, smooth, and built like a workhorse
Color: Right- 6.1:1
I have had this out on the water, and the casting is the first thing that impressed me. That big CNC aluminum spool holds a ton of line, and once I dialed in the tension I was launching heavy baits out there with real distance and control. Having that much capacity is great for long casts, for reaching out over deeper water, or for leaving room to run heavier braid, and it opens the reel up to everything from big swimbaits to setting it in a rod holder for cats. The build is the other standout. This thing feels solid and substantial in the hand without being clunky, the spool spins smooth, and the 35 pounds of drag gives me all the stopping power I need for bigger, harder fighting fish. It reels smooth and cranks with good torque at the 6.1:1 ratio, so it never feels underpowered pulling a fish or a heavy bait back. The comfort details are done right too. The long extended handle gives great leverage under load, and the soft EVA grips stay comfortable and secure even with wet hands during a longer session. I also really like the loud bait clicker, which makes it just as at home on a catfish rig as it is throwing big baits. There is the usual baitcaster learning curve to dial in the brakes, but once it is set this reel performs. For a strong, smooth, long casting baitcaster, this has been great. ... show more

  • Excellent first baitcaster — great value and solid performance!
Color: Right- 6.1:1
This is my first baitcaster and I went with the KastKing Royale Legend Max 300 (right-handed version). I paired it with the KastKing Royale Advantage rod and the combo feels well-balanced and ready for action. After a few trips, I’m really impressed. I spooled the reel with a base layer of 30lb mono, topped with 20lb braid and a 12lb fluoro leader. The large capacity spool handled the line perfectly with room to spare. The reel feels solid and well-built — the CNC aluminum spool is smooth, the 9+1 bearings give it a nice roll, and the 35lb drag is strong and smooth. I currently have just one pair of brakes engaged, which works well for me as a beginner. There’s definitely a learning curve compared to spinning reels (backlashes happen while you’re learning thumb control!), but this reel is forgiving and makes practice enjoyable. I can already feel myself improving quickly. So far I’ve used it for inshore fishing and it performs great. Smooth casting, good retrieve speed with the 6.1:1 gear ratio, and the whole setup feels comfortable during longer sessions. For the price, this KastKing reel (and the matching rod) delivers way more than I expected. If you’re looking to get into baitcasting without spending a fortune, this is a really solid choice. Highly recommend for beginners and experienced anglers alike. ... show more

  • Smooth operation, great value
Color: Left- 6.1:1
I am an avid outdoorsman and my son and I spend a lot of time outside during the summer. We enjoy fishing and we live near one of the Great Lakes. So when Amazon offered to send me this baitcasting real, I was more than happy to try it out and review it. This item arrived well-packaged and in great condition. This is a high-quality fishing reel. It has a good weight and size to it and it operates pretty smoothly. With the free spool on baitcasting reels, backlash is usually a point of concern and inconvenience. It hasn't happened during our fishing excursions with this reel, but you can fix the spool tension if need be. This reel is great for fishing on the lake and in nearby ponds. I cannot attest to whether or not it will hold up in choppy waters or saltwater. Overall, I am pleased with the quality, smooth operation, and value for the money of this baitcasting reel. I also think this item is fairly priced among others in its category and I'm glad that I got it. ... show more
