Features

  • New Compact Design - KastKing Royale Legend Series has been anglers favorite bait casters since 2014. Royale Legend II Baitcasting Reels are totally redesigned for comfort and super performance! Its a compact-size low-profile baitcaster fishing reel combined with a concealed side cover release that makes the reel comfortable even after thousands of casts during a day of fishing.
  • Legacy Carry-On And Beyond The new Royale Legend II casting reel has carried the legacy and set a new bar for performance and durability. For the first time, KastKing implements the double bearing supported pinion gear technology to a Royale Legend II reel, that delivers a 35% increase in smoothness under load compared to the original Royale Legend. This new design structure increases durability by an astounding 30%.
  • Faster And Lighter - Royale Legend II provides faster gear ratios than the previous models. The new 5.4:1 gear ratio model is perfect for crankbaits or slower presentations, while the 7.2:1 gear ratio model that quickly picks up fishing line at 29.8 per turn is great for pitching jigs or burning baits at high speed. Compact design also saves weight for Royale Legend II, making it just 7.2oz, which is lighter than most of graphite side covers and frame casting reels available today.
  • Stronger - KastKings new Royale Legend II casting reels are equipped with an extra-hard stainless steel main shaft, Hamai precision machined brass gears, diamond-shaped ceramic line guide and CNC aluminum spools for strength and durability. Combine those high-end features with a quadruple disc carbon drag that delivers a fishing-stopping 17.6 lbs of drag in baitcasting reels available today.
  • Cross-Fire Magnetic Braking System- To avoid time-consuming and frustrating overruns and backlashes, the new Royale Legend II fishing reels include a newly designed, dynamic magnetic braking system with 8 magnetic buttons, compared to only 5 or 6 on most other reels. Royale Legend IIs ten-level adjustable braking system eliminates casting issues while maximizing casting distance and fishing line control in windy conditions. Say goodbye to overruns and hello to more fish in the boat.

  • Not A Stranger To Baitcasters But New To Kastking
Style: A: Left-7.2:1
A year ago I'd never heard of Kastking . Last year I bought a Kastking boonie hat for my daughter to go fishing with and she really likes it . I decided I wanted a new baitcaster reel to put on an old (old old) pistol grip Uglystik 1st gen so I didn't want to spend the big bucks I'd spent on the reel already on it . Ok so they make cool boonie hats but does that equate to fishing gear . I read a bunch of reviews , watched a bunch of YouTube videos and decided to give this one a try , especially since I could get a lefty for the same price as a rightie . Man I'm glad I did . I'd never spooled my own braided before but decided to try out some Kastking power line . It was super easy to fill (after watching a bunch of YouTube videos to see the best way for me ) and in hardly any time I was casting a practice 1/2oz rubber frog . The first cast was SO SMOOTH I got a huge birdsnest so I locked the brakes down as tight as they could go then loosened little by little until I was almost birdsnesting but not quite and that frog was going at least a 1/3 farther than it did on the prior reel and the leftie handle took about 2 casts to feel natural , no more switching hands after casting . I am blown away at how smooth it casts and reels back in . I'm gonna keep the old reel that I paid 3 times as much for about a decade ago just in case but I'm not going to buy another rod to put it on . If you're new to Baitcasters and don't want to spend a fortune or if you're an old hat to them , like me , but don't have a big budget for another toy this reel is a blast to use . I liked my reel so much when they went on sale again I bought another 7.2.1 AND a 5.4.1 to use on a couple of rods I already have. I plan on using the 5.4.1 on a kayak specific used rod for its slower retrieval . I'm using Kastking Hammer 30# braid on a 7.21 and the 5.4.1 Kastking Super Power 30# braid on the other 7.2.1 . What I have found on these reels is if you over fill , even just 10 yards , they are much less forgiving than Lews versions for bird nesting . Fill to about an 1/8" below the black part of the side , not even with the black (which shows about 1/8 oz red trim ) like I did initially . I couldn't get it to work right to she my self , no matter what I adjusted until I realized I'd over filled the reel. I took about 10 yards back off and now I'm tossing 1/8 swim jigs at least 20 yards on a 5'-6" rod , and heavier lures much farther , with no back lashes . I think the extra smoothness is why it's less forgiving . That spool is really moving when it gets cast . ... show more

  • Great baitcasting reel at a good price
Style: A: Right-7.2:1
I used this reel most of the season throwing different lighter spinners and crankbaits. The reel is still just as smooth and solid as the first day I used it. My other reels I have used are Abu Garcia Revo's which are also very nice reels but not anywhere close in the same price range. I often fish rivers and streams from my kayak and I am not a big fan of using very high end stuff from the kayak incase of any unforeseen occurrences. The higher dollar equipment stays on my big boat. With that said I did fish at least once a week from start of Spring through end of Summer from my kayak using this reel and a couple other Kast King models. Of the 3 models this one did seem to perform better for me. All 3 models were within $10 of each other. One of them was a lower gear ratio for deeper diving crankbaits. My 16 year old son has really just started taking an interest in fishing and he was able to use this caster with very little trouble also. After helping him adjust it correctly to the lure he was throwing, he was able to cast it accurately and at a good distance pretty quickly. If you are looking for a solid well performing bait caster and you don't have an unlimited budget, I would recommend checking this one out. ... show more

  • Perfect Reel
Style: B: Right-5.4:1
I have bought at least 10 of these over the past few years. They are amazing reels for the price point and will rival reels that cost 5x as much. The pictures are of the first one I bought. You can see I have used it a lot and it is still going! I highly recommend this for anyone on a budget or not.

  • It works well
Style: A: Left-7.2:1
The spool spins effortlessly. All controls work well. The line tension, brake, and drag all work as expected. The only thing I notice is the brake. I found, after using it for a while, it did not brake the spool as well as when it was new. But this seems to be the tendency of economy ones I own. The best brake is my thumb. Once in a while, I snap cast by mistake, and the lines birdnest. Otherwise, the reel is well made, and I do not see the reason to sink $100, $200 for this type. (Edit) I learned that, when adjusting for the different weight of lures, first set the brakes at "0", and then let the lure free fall. After the reel tension is set, then set the brakes. This helps the reel cast with less frequency of birdnesting. I still tend to snapcast, when I am trying to send the lure far. ... show more

  • Unbelievably smooth
Style: A: Left-7.2:1
I have paid much more for reels that didn’t feel half this smooth , right out of the box the reel feels good in the hand but once put on the rod with line and a lure it’s not hard to dial the brake in or the line tension knob . I used it for a solid hour the day it was delivered and never had a backlash . I’m so impressed with it o ordered a royale ll 200 and a megatron 200 . ... show more

  • KastKing Royale Legend II Baitcasting Reels,
Style: B: Right-5.4:1
If you are a first time user or a kid you would end up with a snarled reel on first cast if you didn't know to place your thumb on line in reel when pushing release and place thumb back there again after cast before first wind of reel

  • KastKing Royal Legend II
Style: A: Left-7.2:1
The reel is quite a value. Appeard solidly built, mechanically sound. The only caveat I have is when ordering, be sure you choose the correct model as the default is for a left handed model. It was my fault for not paying attention , and I am exchanging it for a right handed model. Amazon makes the return easy enough. ... show more

  • New to bait casting
Style: A: Left-7.2:1
New to bait casting and After doing some research I came up with this reel. There was a learning curve but it worked well. Since this is my first bait caster I have nothing to compare it with since all my other reels are spinners. So I have to say for the price and performance it works well and it was good choice for my first bait caster. ... show more
