This is really a good reel... You have to learn how to dial it in and use your thumb on the spool. To beginners like myself: This is NOT plug and play, there is an art form to using it. EVEN if you watch all the videos on setting it up, you are going to get BACKLASH the 1st few times you use it. It is a right of passage.. It is going to happen until you have the SKILL of using the reel. It happens to EVERYONE it is going to happen to you. It is just part of the learning experience. I spent 2 weeks on the lake in the back just practicing my casting. Went through 4 reels of line. MOST important: Only fill the spool up 1/2 way until you get the hang of it.. (Less line, less backlash to deal with.) Keep the brake on FULL ( Dial on the left side of the reel) You wont cast far, but you wont get backlash as easily. The knob on the right hand side adjusts how freely the spool spins when you cast it.. You have to adjust this for every lure type you use. The bait stops when it hits the water, the SPOOL does NOT and you have backlash.

Reel took quite a few casts to dial in. Once done it worked great. Primary casting drag adjustment would be easier if it clicked or had a visual dial for setting. Magnetic drag worked fine. Good product for the price.

I was able to use this reel over the weekend. I found it to be a very good bang for the buck. After I got it dialed in. I could cast a country mile with it. It is very smooth and it has a fast retrieve rate. Unfortunately, I couldn't catch a fish but that wasn't the real's fault. I'll buy it again when I need a new reel. Time will tell on the quality but for now I love it.

I bought three of these to replace some worn out BPS reels, didn’t have the 5.1:1 speed I was looking for but had a 5.4:1 which is close enough for a decent crank bait reel and I also got two of the 7.2:1 or 7.4:1 not really sure without looking. Casts well when setup is right for lure weight, drag is very good on these reels, KastKing just flat out made a really great budget friendly reel. I plan to buy more as my other reels wear out.

I’m new to baitcasters but I do have a bunch of kastkings spinning reels so I thought I’d try the bait caster. I am not disappointed, it feels good in the hand and fits your palm nicely. Just needs a little bit of oil in grease out of the box and you’re good to go. I would recommend for a beginner.
