  • Rover 60 and Sandusky Bay Channel Cats!
Color: A: Right - Rover60
I piddled with the Rover 60 for a few weeks, practicing with it in the yard. I set it up using 1 and 2 ounce weights for catfishing here in SW Ohio. Recently however, I took this reel along with an Ugly Stick Catfish rod to Sandusky Bay on Lake Erie. I watched a ton of videos and the fishing did not disappoint. We caught, netted, photographed and released more than 20 big channel cats ranging from 2 lbs up to just over 20! I also fished with my standard spinning reel and rod to compare. The Rover 60 casts far and smooth, retrieves so easily and smoothly, and with big cats in the 20 lb range it handled superbly. I am now a bait caster fan and see no reason to spend $200 plus on a name brand that is essentially the same reel. KastKing just made me a lifetime customer. Here in Ohio we can fish with three rods which means I now need two more Rover 60's to complete the gear setup. Way to go KastKing! Next season it's Flathead and Blue Cats and I can't wait to see how the Rovers handle those. ... show more

  • Outstanding Baitcasting Reel For a Budget
Color: A: Right - Rover70
So I will start off this review by discussing the presentation when opening it. The Rover 70 (the version I purchased) came in a box (pictured above) with only a few scratches and dings (guaranteed to be from shipping) but was otherwise unmarked. I will say it is a nice looking box, not too flashy, doesn't feel like super cheap cardboard (you know the type of cardboard). Onto the contents of the box, inside you'll find the reel, the convenient tote bag (both pictured above) and the parts list for the reel. The tote bag is a nice addition (though more than likely, my reel will be spending a majority of its time on my rod) and the reel came in perfect condition. Overall on the presentation- 8/10 Onto the pros and cons of the reel itself: Pros- The reel has an all aluminum frame with a decent sized rubber power handle. Non of that smooth plastic garbage on this handle. The star drag is VERY easy to use. It's positioning on the rod, coupled with its very curved feel makes it very easy to switch drag around, even with a fish pulling on the other end. The alarm button switches the reel to a very satisfying but not too loud clicking to alert you of a take. Not nearly as loud as other reels do and its very easy to use the button. Lining up was also very easy on this reel (I use 60lb braided line on it for catfishing). Another thing I have noticed is that its NOT an easy task to birds nest this reel. Other baitcaster I have used feel like they birds nest on every other cast. I have already casted this thing a few hundred times and no issues on either the cast or the retrieve. Cons (Few and far between)- There really isnt much to talk about here. However, there are a few things that do need pointed out. First being that the levelwind CAN get in the way if you hook into a large fish. However the reel is very customizable and this can be removed in a few minutes with only a few screwdrivers and a youtube tutorial. (When I said a few I meant one) Overall this rod is very good for the price I paid and I will likely find myself purchasing one again for another rod. Overall rating - 9.5/10 ... show more

  • It seems to be well-built: no plastics inside
Color: B: Left - Rover90
I paired with my 12-ft cast rod. It pairs well. I have not gotten to the ocean, just tried at a large reservoir, and it looks like it will do the job--if I get used to using a very large rod and reel combo. Practice! One thing to note is that the splice I tied into the line somehow snagged loose line when cast, and bunched up into a ball, and hit the line guide. Well, the wire was pushed out of the channel. What a bummer. I guess I should attribute this mishap to my fault. I just popped it back, and the reel functioned flawlessly. I cut out the portion ahead of the splice, and problem solved and lesson learned: do not splice a snapped line, no matter how long, if your cast sends the splice through the line guide. Duh. The reel turns smoothly, without any resistance or noise. I just cannot wait till how it will behave, when a heavy load is put on by fighting fish. Some complain that the clicker is not loud enough. It was loud enough and adequate enough for me. The spool unlock button operates positively, locking back up, after you turn the crank. One problem: the lowest setting for drag is still pretty weighty, yet at the tightest setting, I can still pull the line out. This presents a problem: a strong fish might never agree to meet me, after a long fight. After playing with it by tightening and loosening a few times, it has reached to the point where I could not pull out the lines. I could have tried to pull it until the 60lbs line snapped, but I quit before the line cut into the flesh. ... show more

  • Kastking does it again..
Color: B: Left - Rover40
Can’t beat this budget reel! I paired it with the Fiblink Moonsniper 9’ and it’s a great combo. I’m still learning to use baitcasters but I really enjoy using this one. Once you understand how to set up your kastking rover, it’s actually fairly easy to use! I have used this reel now for about a year.. I didn’t take the best care of it, by rinsing the salt water off every time I used it. Finally after all that time I decided to clean it and grease it and to my surprise there was little to no corrosion from the saltwater! The quality and durability, the look and feel of the reel is all great! The drag system works for me.. I see some reviews where they’re trash talking the drag system but it hasn’t failed me yet. Sometimes I even use my thumb to help slow the line being pulled out, instead of adjusting the drag mid fight.. The bait clicker is easy to use and I love it. The best thing about this reel? It’s affordable!!!!! It’s great quality for anyone! No matter if you’re on a budget or not! You will enjoy this reel, and if it just so happens it doesn’t work the first time, try it again! Just make adjustments as you go! If the first one you buy is defective (it happens sometimes with any product) in any way, return it for replacement.. I have so much fun using the rover40L! ... show more
