Great reel! First use, fist cast resulted in my biggest Yellowtail snapper to date. The drag system is amazing for a reel at this price point and worked smooth as butter on a big fish with 30 pound braid and it was pulling several pounds of drag. Most reels have two carbon fiber washers and 3 metal washers. These have multiple of both though I recommend cleaning the drag washers with 90% ISO as they have factory oil on them. They call it a “dry” drag system for a reason but manufacturers put a fine coat of oil so they don’t seize up when stored. Just remember to reduce the drag tension to near zero every time you use it. ... show more

I needed a good budget reel for guests on my boat, so I purchased this reel after reading a bunch of reviews on it and visiting the KastKing website. I must say, so far it is living up to everything I read about it. The fit and finish on the reel seems to be of good quality and is comparable to some of my much more expensive reels. I have not yet fished with it so there will likely be a follow to this review in the near future. As of now, I can confirm that the build quality is good, the materials seem to be of decent quality and the reel feels smooth and casts well. It is of course the 6000 size and I've spooled it with 300 yards of 30lb braid and there is ample room for more line if needed! I'll be using this one for a combination of inshore and offshore fishing here in the gulf, primarily targeting Redfish, Cobia, Snapper and maybe the occasional small blacktip or spinner shark. I have it mounted on a 6'6" fast action, heavy spinning rod with plenty of backbone for the larger catches! Now I just need the weather to cooperate! I'll update this review a bit later, but for now, based on first impressions, I would definitely buy again and would recommend this reel to anyone looking for a good quality budget reel. Got 2 of them both 4000. One of them for my Ugly stick big water with 30lb braid line. Works great. 2nd I have it paired with my Okuma steelhead Salmon rod and using it with 12lb test mono line. Love them. They are smooth with fast retrieval. Light weight as well... My friend liked the reel so I ended up getting one for him for his bday. Very satisfied these reels. ... show more

There are so many reels out there, that for a beginner, or someone returning to fishing, as long as it is smooth, it should be perfect. This is exactly that, smooth as could be, amazing looks, and pretty quite compared to my Abu Garcia and Lewes reels. It makes me want to fish more and more. I’m sure there are some diehard fisherman out there that don’t have much to say about this reel, but it seems like Kastking is really making some waves in the fishing industry with this reel as well as their rods and accessories. ... show more

Reel was missing drag nut. I was able to replace it from another reel I had but item should not of been missing from new reel. Seems as though product had been used and that piece was not returned with product. Pretty upsetting you think you are buying a new product and get it and find that parts are missing . ... show more
