I'm amazed by this reel. I bought a Cadence CS5 which is also on Amazon and it only lasted me a few months and I wish I had ordered another one of these. This reel I just checked and I purchased it 4 years ago and it still functions like new. NO NOISE and SMOOTH like I just bought it yesterday. The area where the reel attaches to the rod does have some corrosion but it's also 4 years old and only been used in saltwater. A few days ago I thought it finally gave up on me after I left it in the back of the truck for like a week and it got rained on a couple times. It was extremely tough to reel. So I took it apart and just put some new grease on the gears and oiled the bearings. I thought It was never going to be the same after that but once I got it back together it was working flawlessly again. 10 out of 10 recommend! ... show more

I use it weekly for deep sea fishing trips in the Atlantic and the Gulf of Mexico in Florida. It is the easiest cranking reel I have found when deep sea fishing with 6, 8 or even 12 ounce weights when currents are running wild! Smooth, especially for the money! Brother Tom

I like the material which it's build from, it's smooth.one thing I don't like it's soooo heavy and with rod will be more. if you planning to cast a lure with this reel you will feel sore arm muscles after couple cast.its good for casting a bait and wait not casting and retreat every minute

THE PRO's. I picked up the reel about 4 months ago. Out of the box, it looks awesome. The 3000 is a smaller size reel with a deep spool. I liked that it was compact and paired nicely with the KastKing Perigee II 7ft MH rod. Performed well, I liked the metal body and it felt strong when reeling in 5-10 lb sheepheads and sea trout that I caught on it. THE CONS. The reel started hesitating after a hour or so of fishing in saltwater with multiple retrieves and fish. After a freshwater rinse it would seem to get better but, each time out after the first hour or so it started sticking again. The saltwater must be entering from under the spool getting the spray. I've never submerged the reel and rinsed it with fresh water after using. I had a similar issue with the valiant eagle reel from kast king. Also, I began noticing the finish peeling/flaking off which I assume is another issue with the saltwater and the metal body. Overall, great reel. Super strong, great drag and very smooth when it's working properly. BUT!! It's not Saltwater ready. Look for a reel that is SEALED. Kast King offers the Spartacus 2 in a sealed version and the sharky 3 with a water resistant channeling feature called KISS. I may try one of those. For now I got a deal on a penn combo to replace the megatron. While not the smoothest they seem to hold up better to the saltwater. ... show more

It's premature to rate this reel since I just recieved it but Kast King has yet to let me down with their reels and I have 4-5 of them already. I bought this one for a new 12 ft. surf rod so I expect it to perform well.
