I've only had this reel for a few days and since the lakes are still frozen where I live I haven't had a chance to fish with it, so these are first impressions. All my other reels are Shimano, from their low end to their $300 range. The fit and finish of this reel competes with Shimano at a higher price point than its $59.99 list. The drag, spool tension, and centrifugal brake adjustments are smooth with a positive clicking feedback to help tactilely calibrate adjustment. "Palming" the reel feels comfortable and natural and the reel balances well both on my older Shimano rod and my new St Croix Eyecon. Line spooled up smoothly and evenly with a high end 20lb fused braid. I was easily able to set spool tension and drag. I think the cork handles are a really nice touch. I'm a big fan of the warmth and feel of cork and these are clearly good quality cork--very solid and high density but with a soft, almost leathery feel like a good cork handle. One thing I really appreciated is the assembly diagram and instruction sheet was printed at a size my older eyes could easily read. All my newer reels include diagrams and manuals printed so small I need a magnifier to read them. The instruction are more thorough than most and include some helpful information for a beginner (that I don't need but would be really nice for a first-time baitcaster buyer), including how to set-up, use, and clean the reel. I'll return to this review and update it when I've had a chance to throw a few lures for an afternoon. Overall I'm quite impressed. I've reached a point in my life when I'm normally buying more expensive stuff than this reel, but so far I'm impressed enough that I will be looking at KastKing's top end stuff when I look to add to my collection again.

This reel is amazing. Super smooth bearings, brass main gear and brass pinion, light weight, with deep spool. Everything you want in a baitcaster. The cork handles are great and add to the weight reduction. The whole reel feels solid. You can't beat this reel at this price point. I love KastKing reels and accessories. I just got into their baitcasters as I have been using their spinning reels. The royal legend pro spinning reel is a beast!!!. I have had my eye on the new titanium baitcasters. I will be purchasing one of those next.

The MegaTron is a great fishing reel, its sleek profile fits well with all of my rigs and the magnetic brakes make it easy to setup. For the price there isn’t much out there that’s better. The reel is smooth and the spool is super light, and the cork handles are a nice touch. I don’t see a reason I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone.

Smooth reel, drag is good, brakes easy to adjust and work really well for casting and skipping. Reel is very comparable to the Daiwa Tatula in my opinion for less than half the price. I am very impressed with mthe quality of most Kastking reels.

This has been a fantastic reel addition to my fishing gear. I previously had a cheaper baitcaster on my rod that would work but I never could cast well with. I could cast with other baitcasters but the one I had just was strange to me. I would get birds nests all the time. I picked this up and that seems to be fixed. This is similar in size to my previous reel but with much upgraded specs. This has a good gear ratio with 7+1 ball bearings to keep the action smooth. There is a nicely sensitive magnetic braking system to give you control during casting. Best of all the spool tensioner and drag have clicking to them. Typically the baitcasters I would use do not have that satisfying click you get when you get a fish on like a spinning reel. This however, does have that clicking. The audio feedback of the clicking is so helpful when battling a fish. I can respond much faster with drag adjustments to ensure I don't loose fish with the clicking opposed to other baitcasters I have used. The other features of this reel are top notch for the price point. The only negative I would give is that I wish the drag power was a little higher. This is labeled as 11 lbs of drag force which for the type of fish I am going after is generally more than enough. Plus with proper technique you can catch almost anything on in-land lakes. It however, is nice to have a little more power there to ensure you can hold your ground against the big boys in the lake and brute force the fish in when you need to. Still, I cannot complain about the overall performance. I highly recommend!

I spent quite a bit of time going over this reel and found the features to be very similar to reels 3X more expensive. Kast King continues to up their game and deliver high quality gear at discounted prices. Here are some of the features that jump out: Very fast 7.2:1 gear ratio Machined spool which is slotted to allow secure attachment of line from spool (no slipping!) Oversized handle with cork grips (which are replaceable -- another premium feature) 8 ball bearings for extra smooth casting and retrieval A screw down "keeper" bracket to secure nut holding on handle (usually only found on premium reels) Fully adjustable drag, casting and spool friction knobs Detailed instructions on how to spool, cast, and clean the reel along with setting the drag It is a very small reel; if not for the large handle it would fit completely in the palm of your hand. Line capacity, at 110 yards of 12lb test, is sufficient. The only problem I see is the reel release lever for your thumb is quite small, due to the small frame. My thumb covers it completely, which might require some "searching" for the release before each cast. Overall, the reel looks great, has a good quality "heft" to it and is buttery smooth. Another great value from Kast King which should provide years of dependable service.
