  • Excellent spinning reel from Kastking
Color: A:Pelagic Blue-MegaJaws-NyliPlex Size: 5000
The KastKing Megajaw 5000 is an outstanding addition to my collection of spinning reels, joining my Capstan Elite, Recon Saltwater, Zephyr, and Zephyr SFS models. This reel has surpassed my expectations in every way. It's incredibly lightweight yet durable, offers smooth and silent retrieves, and features a loud spool for an engaging experience when fighting a catch. The spool lip design enhances long-distance casting, making it a top performer. In comparison to my Daiwa Backbay 5000, the Megajaw 5000 stands out for being significantly lighter while delivering comparable performance. ... show more

  • KastKing MegaJaws Spinning Reel, first use
Color: A:Pelagic Blue-MegaJaws-NyliPlex Size: 5000
Bought the 5000 size and spooled it with 30lb braid. It held maybe 250 yards. The reel is small, lightweight and performed flawlessly. I used it to cast 2 and 3oz jigs for a couple hours and threw a topwater lure awhile. The reel is smooth on the retrieve. The bail locked back and closed fully with every cast. It feels good in the hand and the drag is strong and smooth. Did not catch a fish but I will update my review later. ... show more

  • The Kastking MegaJaws Spinning reel is as sleek as a Mako Shark... With Bite!
Color: B:Purple-MegaJaws Elite-Aluminum Alloy Size: 3000
I initially ordered a 3000 size in the Kastking MegaJaws Spinning Reel series from Amazon; however, I had to return it because the reel would not spool line evenly. To be fair, I think I received a used reel because the cutouts in the box were torn, and it was obvious someone had taken the reel out numerous times. After returning the reel and thinking about what I liked about it, I ordered another reel; however, this time I ordered a 2000 size directly from Kastking. I had the opportunity to try it out this past weekend, and I wasn’t disappointed; there were no issues with spooling this time. I paired the reel with a St. Croix 6’4” Trout Series Rod (Light Power, Fast Action) and was fortunate enough to land eight trout. Two were 18.5 inch plus Rainbow Trout that weighed 1.5 and 2 pounds, respectively. This reel is lightweight and smooth, and the purple and black color scheme is aesthetically pleasing to the eye. The drag system is very smooth as well; however, the “clicking” isn’t as loud as my other Kastking Spinning reels. There is no issue there whatsoever. The casting is outstanding. While using 6 lb. test monofilament and jerk baits and spoons that weighed between 1/10 and 1/8 ounces, long casts of 20 to 25 yards were almost effortless. Granted, using a 6’4” rod does facilitate longer casting versus rods of a shorter length. I also appreciated the 6.2.1 gear ratio when it came to dealing with swifter waters during the trip. The reel only boasts 15.4 pounds of drag, but for trout weighing less than 10 pounds, this is more than adequate. The reel is saltwater-rated, but upon inspecting underneath the drag adjustment knob, I found that there was inadequate grease to prevent the possibility of water leaking in. Minor problem, as I added some Kastking reel grease to the area. In summary, I own several “high end” Kastking reels (Kapstan Elite Saltwater 3000, Kestrel SPS 1000 reels) and the MegaJaws, and it’s apparent that Kastking is seeking to compete with some of the more “high end” brands such as Daiwa and Shimano. For the price, you will not find a better spinning reel. This reel met my expectations and then some. Trout are finicky and line-shy fish; however, in the future, I may remove the monofilament and go to a light braided line with a fluorocarbon leader. If I do, I’m confident the MegaJaws will handle that setup admirably. If you’re looking for a "high-end" spinning reel that would cover the spectrum from panfish to walleye and perhaps some smaller inshore species, the Kastking MegaJaws will not disappoint. ... show more

  • Great reel
Color: A:Pelagic Blue-MegaJaws-NyliPlex Size: 2000
So far so good. Went to the lake in walking distance and.tbis casts far. Further than my Shimano rig that cost 3x as much. Just as smooth of a retrieve too. Seems great.

  • Very smooth action, responsive drag, perfect speed ratio, quality components.
Color: A:Pelagic Blue-MegaJaws-NyliPlex Size: 3000
I bought the 3000 series and have enjoyed casting and retrieving with this reel. The 6.2:1 is the perfect speed for this setup and my intended use of freshwater bass fishing. I loaded 12 lb. KastKing fluorocarbon line and it casts great. The action is very smooth including the bail arm when closing. The drag system feels great too and is very smooth. The whole setup feels like very nice quality compared to some setups I have that are twice the cost. Love the color scheme on this setup too. If there is anything I could change it would be to add the traditional reverse switch. But with a good drag system, I guess it's not needed. Good luck on the water! ... show more
