Features

  • IDEAL SPINNING REEL FOR FINESSE FISHINGThe Kestrel SFS (Spin Finesse System) spinning reel is amazingly light, weighing in at only 4.6 ounces. The full carbon fiber frame along with maximum use of 7075 & 6061 aluminum components keep the reels weight to the absolute minimum.
  • STRENGTH WITHOUT THE WEIGHT The carbon fiber drag washers deliver 10 lbs of smooth stopping power and the reel is built with a 7075 aluminum main shaft & 2014 aluminum drive gear, solid brass pinion gear, and a shallow cut CNC 6061 aluminum braid-ready spool.
  • INNOVATIVE SPOOL & REEL ROTOR The patented spool design limits line friction and improves casting distance and line control. Plus the aerodynamic reel rotor lowers resistance and provides better overall performance.
  • PREMIUM COMPONENTS THROUGHOUT Although this is a finesse reel, the Kestrel Carbon Body SFS reel comes with plenty of power. With double sliding stabilizer rods (D.S.S.R.), an aluminum main gear and brass pinion gear as well as a direct drive aluminum handle, this reel provides anglers with a surprisingly stout tool to target finicky fish in clear and/or highly pressured waters.
  • SMALL, LIGHT, YET QUICK & STRONGThe premium carbon fiber drag washers in the Kestrel deliver smooth stopping power. The Kestrel also gives you a 6.2:1 gear ratio for a tremendous balance of torque and speed with a line retrieve of 28.4 inches per turn (IPT) of the handle. This reel balances well on any finesse fishing rod and is a great choice for targeting bass, trout, crappies and other panfish.

  • The excellent
I think it’s great,I haven’t tried it because it’s not clear to me I don’t see anti-reverse fish roll. The question for you is whether it even exists?

  • Nice reel with one issue
Overall, I love the reel, paired with a Kastking Perigee 6UL rod, the operation and balance while fighting big pan fish is fantastic. My only issue, I'm using 6 lb bass pro xl mono (I know, a little heavy for this combo), the line sometimes gets a loop at the base of the spool, and the spool shape makes it worse by dragging the line up under the spool and can cause wrapping around the spindle shaft and drag assembly if not noticed immediately. This means you have to remove the spool of your reel, while your line is in the water, and untangle everything before you can reel the line in. I have gotten in the habit of checking my line and tension on the spool after every cast to prevent reoccurrance. ... show more

  • Reel is great but
when pulling out drag it almost feels like there is a bump every time it goes around. feels like the drag isn’t smooth and not sure if something is up

  • EXCELLENT reel. KastKing is playing in the big leagues now.
I am really impressed... this is everything you could hope for in an ultralight spinning reel: extremely light, solid and precise, smooth carbon drag, and full ball bearing support of everything that moves. These are things that are preferable, but KastKing also added some innovative features like the second stabilizing rod to keep the gear train in alignment under load and the grooved spool lip to reduce line friction on casting. Ball bearing count can be meaningless if cheap bearings are used, but the bearings in the Kestrel are stainless steel and fully shielded. It is buttery smooth and should stay that way. This reel feels way more "solid" than my other UL spinning reels, despite being so light. It also has a reasonable line capacity instead of holding three times more line than necessary like a lot of other spinning reels. I prefer to use old-school monofilament line on ultra-light spinning reels and this reel makes it economical and convenient to replace that line often. Switching to braid increases the capacity and the spool is braid-ready, having a rubber insert so the line grips the spool. I bought my first KastKing baitcasting reel several years ago and found it was an incredible value. I've added a few more since and have noticed increases in quality, materials and design. My impression after getting this new Kestrel is that KastKing is no longer a budget alternative, but a direct competitor to the big names. I have the reel mounted on a 6' ultra-light rod that weighs 2.6 ounces and it makes for "magic wand" kind of handling. I'm loving it so far! ... show more

  • Light and smooth with performance equal to the big boys...
I’m a staunch Kastking fan, and I use their products almost exclusively. Recently, I had been looking for a size 500 or 1000 reel to pair with a 5’6" St. Croix Premier Rod I had received for Christmas. They didn’t get the memo that I’m a Kastking guy. On June 10th, I ordered my Kastking Kestrel 1000 SFS, and it arrived on June 13th. Needless to say, I’m impressed. This reel is smooth, really smooth, and light. I spooled it with 6 lb. test Kastking Black Mamba monofilament, and casting is great, even with 1/16 ounce Trout spinners. The drag is smooth, and for trout, panfish, crappie, and perch, the 10 pound max drag is fine. The Kestrel 1000 SFS, along with Kastking’s Kapstan Elite Saltwater reels, indicate that Kastking is ready to compete with the big boys like Shimano and Daiwa. The performance in the field has been outstanding. If you need a lightweight reel to pair with a UL or L, fast action, 6’ or less spinning rod for trout, panfish, crappie, and perch, this is your reel. ... show more

  • First one works great
My first KK Kestrel SFS reel works great , it’s a super lightweight , smooth reel . I liked it so much I ordered a second one . Not so lucky . The second one has a bump in the handle while you wind the reel at the top and bottom of spool cycle . Very annoying when swimming a light jig or lure . Edit : I changed my rating to five stars after KastKing reached out to me and showed me what great customer service they have . They were concerned that I had gotten lemon and made it right . It just shows how far this company has come , not just competing with the long time leaders of the fishing industry, but going that extra step in insuring their customers are taken care of . My new Kestrel SFS will go great with my new KastKing Kestrel Feather Light rod . ... show more

Looks GREAT, can't wait to try it out. Smooth and powerful is the feel I get from it. I will edit my review after I try it out.

  • Replaces Traditional UL Spinning Reels for Me
Bought for a custom 5’10 creek rod. Love the weight and gear ratio. I am a pretty staunch Diawa Tatula LT guy but this reel may replace the Tatula 1000 on light/medium light set-ups. Drag is smooth. General feel is high quality. The only question will be the toughness/longevity of the product. Initial 5 ⭐️ opinion from this avid smallmouth fisherman. ... show more
