Color: Kestrel Carbon- 4.5oz- Right- 7.5:1

Features

  • PERFECT For FINESSE FISHING - Weighing in at an ultra-light 4.5 ounces, the Kestrel Baitcasting Reel combines feather-light design with rigid performance. The carbon fiber frame and side covers empower anglers to effortlessly cast lightweight baits with extended accuracy, virtually eliminating backlashes. The Palm Perfect Design at 37.5mm ensures a comfortable fishing experience all day long.
  • SHALLOW SPOOL MASTERY - The Kestrel features an ultra-lightweight shallow feather spool weighing only 5.6 grams. This micro-spool excels at handling smaller diameter lines, perfect for finesse fishing. With minimal effort, the shallow spool accelerates swiftly, enabling anglers to effectively cast lures down to an impressive 1/32 oz.
  • FINESSE -OPTIMIZED BRAKING - The FAF (Flyout Arc Finesse) Braking system was designed specifically for finesse fishing. Two half-ring magnetic brakes automatically adjust to slow down the spool when braking is needed to prevent backlashes. As the speed of the spool decreases, the magnetic field inside the spool diminishes and the magnets retract to maximize casting distance. There is also an external fingertip brake adjustment dial for fine tuning spool speeds for smaller baits.
  • SMOOTH And FAST PRECISION - Indulge in an unmatched smooth retrieve with 11+1 MaxiDur Double Shielded Stainless Steel Ball Bearings. Unleash the extraordinary performance of the 7.5:1 and 8.4:1 high-speed gear ratio, a testament to durability with precision-crafted aluminum main gear, brass pinion gear, and aluminum main gear shaft. This Baitcasting reel seamlessly blends smoothness and speed for an exceptional angling experience that stands the test of time.
  • IMPRESSIVE POWER And CastabILITY - The patented LFTV (Low Friction Tapered Vortex) Line Guide decreases the angle at which the line enters the guide, limiting friction during casts. A straighter line and reduced friction result in fewer backlashes and greater distance on casts, both of which are qualities highly desirable among serious finesse anglers. Experience up to 12 lbs of smooth drag that provides plenty of fish-stopping power and the audible drag clicker also gives you feedback.

  • Noice. Noice.
Color: Kestrel Carbon- 4.5oz- Right- 7.5:1
I’ve heard a lot of bad things about KastKing. I’ve also heard a lot of good. Things like “quality control,” and “value for money” are thrown in the ring of debate about the brand. Knowing this, I decided to take the risk. Let me say this: out of the box, I knew this might be something special. First thing I did was slap it to a 7’ Field and Stream M/H, took a rubber practice cast fish and went to my decently-sized back yard. I set the spool tension, flicked the brakes to what I thought appropriate, and gave the girl a gentle flick. About 4 seconds later I’m walking across my yard in the direction of my westerly neighbor to retrieve said rubber fish from one of his trees. While the length of the cast should’ve been the most surprising, the lack of backlash caught my eye first. My second thought was “I need to go to the lake. Like right now.” Have you ever wondered what it would be like to wield the infinity gauntlet? I do sometimes, and this feels like it might be as close as I’ll ever get. The slim profile often makes you forget you’re actually fishing with more than just a stick and some line. My father casually teased me about “being used to handling small gear,” but was pretty dang quiet after I out-casted his 1.5oz crank bait with a 1/16th oz Rapala. Anyway. I’ve only had one birds nest with this thing in almost 3 months of using it every Saturday, Sunday, and occasional Monday when my boss decides to give me the day off for a federal holiday. Mid cast my son decided to swan dive off a picnic a picnic bench and I buried a Choppo about 5 feet in front of me and probably 15 feet straight into the water, so can’t really blame the gear there. I mean I’ll straight whip it as hard as I can and let the spool run free without even thumbing it and it doesn’t spool up on me at all. I’m convinced the brakes are managed by a small witch practicing magic and a gnome that cares only about perfectly matching spool RPM with how much line is flying out of my hand. For the curious I added a picture of the rod I lovingly mated this reel with. It’s an Abu Vendetta M/H with fast action resting at a height of what tinder girls will call an acceptable 6’9”. Light. Nimble. Effective. Drag punches well above its weight, and will hold up over the 15lb braid I tenderly rapped around the spool. Looks great. Feels great. If you’re torn about it, just do it. ... show more

  • So good I bought another.
Color: Kestrel Carbon- 4.5oz- Right- 7.5:1
This is the value king in BFS reels. I have both gear ratios. For my use, which is primarily small jigs for largemouth bass and crappie, I prefer the slower gear ratio. These reels are nice and smooth in both the cast and retrieve. The higher gear ratio model has a bit of a “geary” feeling, but it’s not bad at all. ... show more

  • Nice reel for small baits or BFS
Color: Kestrel Carbon- 4.5oz- Right- 7.5:1
This reel has been surprisingly good. I own almost 50 bait casters from top brands. While I wouldn’t define this as a budget reel it’s been very good and it will flat out sling a little bait. I have the reel on a Gloomis GLX med-light. I’ve only bought a handful of KastKing products over the years but this is definitely one of the better products I’ve purchased. ... show more

  • Great reel for fishing lighter baits.
Color: Kestrel Carbon- 4.5oz- Right- 7.5:1
This reel performs as well as reels that cost 2 times as much. The tension and cast control adjustments provide for backlash-free fishing. The drag system is smooth with incremental adjustments to support big fish.

  • Bang For Your Buck! Bang For Your Buck!
Color: Kestrel Carbon- 4.5oz- Right- 7.5:1
Love this reel! I paired it KastKing Kesterl Finesse rod. I’m new to BFS and this reel made casting small/micro lures effortless. The small size of the reel makes it easy to palm and control one handed but don’t let the small size fool you, this reel has plenty strength. A good drag is essential for light line fishing and I was impressed by how smooth the drag was. ... show more
