Using this in the laundry room connected to Home Assistant. The built in motion detection is extremely responsive with good enough detection angle that it has no problems detecting motion even when on the same wall as the entry door. I only have to walk about 18 inches to the room and the light is triggered. The cool down time is sufficient to allow Home Assistant to turn it off quickly without having to worry about it being ready in case somebody leaves and quickly returns. I would by more if (or when) I have a specific use case. Easily integrates into Home Assistant. My only comment is it does not support Matter, and I hope Tp-Link / Kasa provide a firmware update. I have been installing several smart switch as soon as I found out that I have neutral wire in the junction boxes of the existing switches. I choose Kasa Smart switches as they are affordable and their app is easy to use and can link automatically to Amazon Alexa app so I can control using 1 app. Installation is simple, the only challenge is fitting the switch into the junction box as the switch is bigger than the original switch, so if you have a lot of connectors in the junction box, you might have a challenge to push the smart switch to fit. Once it's connected to the electrical system, the app is very simple to use to guide connecting the smart switch to the home wifi. So far I am very satisfied with the upgraded switch and I can now use voice command to turn the lighting in the house. ... show more

I have multiple Kasa products installed in my house, and they all work flawlessly. I needed to replace a "dumb" motion detector switch and decided to give this one a chance. It has not disappointed! The motion detection works great, and I find that it does NOT detect light, etc. as a source of motion. I have the light set to turn off after a minute of no motion detection, and it works well. You can extend this to 2 or 5 minutes as your needs require. Simple to install if you've done this before and the Kasa app makes it easy to add to your setup. I added mine to HomeKit via homebridge, and it works perfect via both the Kasa app and HomeKit. I highly recommend this and other Kasa switches. ... show more

Installed this a few days ago, so far so good. No issues with the installation, replaced a ‘regular’ kasa smart light switch. This works as expected, though a couple of things that i wish were better: The angle of motion sensing is not as wide as i had hoped - i was thinking it would be closer to 180, but it’s quite a bit narrower. When i’m to the side of the switch or even a bit closer to the middle, it doesn’t see me. Because of that, i’ve had to set it to turn off after a longer amount of time so it doesn’t turn off while i’m in the room but out of its angle (and hope that i’ll move into range before that time is up - it’s my kitchen, so chances are good). Second slight disappointment is that the actual manual switch/button to turn it on or off feels a little kludgy - only the very bottom of the switch toggles, even though the entire lower portion of the switch is a single piece. The very middle of the switch does not depress at all. It’s not very intuitive, and the click action is a bit ‘mushy’ and inconsistent, not a solid satisfying click like the regular kasa rocker or a regular non-smart switch. All in all though, it does what i need it to do well enough so far - saves me a bit of electricity when i forget to turn it off, turns on automatically when i’m walking towards it. Has relatively good flexibility options such as making it manual only, or setting it to motion sense only during certain times. Fit and finish is on par with the kasa switches i have (which is to say pretty good). One thing to note was that it had a harder time connecting to my network than all the other kasa switches i’ve setup - had to restart the switch a couple times to finally connect to it and then be able to join my network, hopefully just a fluke. ... show more

Install was easy - no need to discern between live/load (black wires). Highly recommend using no-contact voltage tester for safety. For my old switch the neutrals weren't connected so had to run white neutral wire to that bundle (just run white to that and wire nut them). The switches wires too long for me so I trimmed those down. Can be a little bit of a struggle to collapse wires but doable as device is a little deeper and wider than regular switch. Looked like package may have been previously returned as clear seal on box was replaced but was repackaged and all the components were neat and in box so no complaints but I consider to be "open box". Easy set up in app - three settings for motion sensitivity. Will save us from having to use a toggle switch when carrying laundry. Love it and looks very clean aesthetically installed. ... show more

Bought & installed this for my 12-year old son's room. He wanted one & bought it with his money. It worked great for 6 months but then just stopped working today - the circle "on" light is coming on & off but the lights aren't getting power. After reading about the return & warranty process, it's clearly not worth most people's time to go through the work, and *especially* if they're requiring that the customer pay shipping. UPDATE: Online Tech support (via chat) suggested pressing the "reset" button. Tiny button on the left under the switch. Held it for 10 seconds and it's working again.
