  • Great variety
The charcoal set has a great variety of different medians of tools, including soft, medium and hard charcoal and various colors to work with. I thought that it would come with the paper blending tool, however it does not. I did find that after a few uses, one of the charcoals broke in half, however that may have been user error. Overall, a great set to get started and exploring the basics of charcoals as a medium. ... show more

  • Perfect Set To Tuck In My Travel Bag For Art
I like to be able to do some art on the go. I have a leather satchel that I bring my supplies with me, and this box is just the right size to throw in there while protecting the charcoal and drawing tools. BOX The box is thick and protective. This will last if you put a rubber band around it in a bag or satchel. There is plenty of foam protection and the pieces stay nicely. TOOLS Everything in the set is great for those who love to draw and blow through supplies pretty quickly. All of the tools are decent quality and go down on paper quite well. PERFORMANCE I posted a quick sketch I did of a flower using almost everything in the set. It was easy to do and the products layered very well. THE BOTTOM LINE This is an excellent set to take with your or do at home for drawing. I love the assortment and find that it has everything I need to do some pretty good drawings. MY RATING FIVE STARS. I would buy this again. I like it and it is a good set that does not break the bank but will give decent performance as you pursue drawing. I recommend this. ... show more

  • Nice variety of soft, medium and hard densities and tones - good value!
Teachers like drawing students to have a variety of charcoals – larger sticks of compressed and lighter sticks of vine charcoals in different grades of hardnesses to experiment with achieving various tonal ranges. This set offers a good variety of compressed charcoals and includes sticks clearly labeled 'soft', 'medium' and 'hard'. It's useful to have a few sticks of white included in a set – and this set has a two sticks of greys as well. Overall this set is a good value. Students in drawing classes will still need lighter 'willow' or 'vine' charcoals to round out their array of supplies and a variety of erasers, but this set is very nice to get used to working with compressed charcoals. One reviewer commented that a stick broke while drawing with it - typically drawing charcoals will break, and that isn't a problem! Learning to work with pieces of charcoal sticks and even experimenting with the materials – even pressing charcoal dust into paper and smudging it - is all part of the learning process! ... show more

  • A great value - 24 quality charcoal sticks in one kit
This is a great set of charcoal drawing sticks. The kit includes a great variety of sticks. It is advertised as professional quality, and to me, an amateur artist at best, these sticks do seem like they are great quality. My sister is the artist in the family, and one day I'll show them to her, she loves working in charcoal, and see if she agrees with me. But I can tell you, for the price, these are the best charcoal sticks I have ever purchased. Everything is contained in a very nice, easy to use, box. I say easy to use, because being foam, it is very easy to get the charcoal you want. I've tried the plastic containers, and the charcoal sticks are a pain to get in and out of their storage spots. This a great set for a good price. I definitely would recommend this set for anyone looking to get into charcoal artwork, or anyone who needs some additional charcoal sticks. ... show more

  • Charcoal black grey white set
Draws just like a charcoal pencil but you have more range of options on how to use it, like on its side for filling in a space, chiseled for an angle, or hand sharpened for more like a pencil. The color pays off really well, the only issue I had was if you blend it and try to go over the top with white it doesn't want to stick as well. Maybe it's the oils from my fingers that made it resistant. I wish there were two or three white chalks and the same with the grays because I feel like I am going to run out of those colors before I finish using the rest. Make a good first-time set for any artist 8 years old and up, for a birthday or Christmas gift. Add a pad of drawing paper to go with, and a nice eraser sold separately. ... show more

  • These are Really Fun!
I have never tried charcoal before, and I (at most) occasionally dabble in drawing. However, these are really fun to use. The hard ones make pretty light lines, so you can just keep moving with them without being too committed to what you put down. Then you can go back with the softer ones to make darker/bolder lines. It is nice to have so many, so I do not worry about the fact that I used some up on something that came out terrible (because of my lack of experience, not the product). I would really love to learn how to use these better someday. If I ever draw anything good, maybe I will post a picture. ... show more

  • New Medium- Great for Beginners and Beyond
This charcoal drawing set is my first experience using this medium. As a beginner, I found them to be easy to use and am having fun exploring and learning this new drawing skill. They are less messy than I anticipated. I have used pastels in the past and was very much turned off by the weird greasy yet chalky texture and feel. This charcoal does not feel like that at all. I expected it to feel dry and somewhat crumbly, but that is not really the case either. It leaves very little on the fingers yet is easy to blend. I don't really know how to judge the quality of the charcoal, but I found it to be easy to draw lines with as well as create texture. It comes in a nice, padded box that is perfect for storing them in. I suspect that this is a high-quality set. Very happy with it and excited to create some artwork. ... show more

  • A Good Set for Any Level Charcoal Artist
These are not your run of the mill "no-name" charcoal sticks. Kalour is a good, solid company with good product. This set is no different. The charcoal sticks deliver a strong, smooth line, and are firm enough to stand up to any reasonable handling. With care, this set will last a good long time. The only down-side was the foam insert that holds/protects the sticks within the packaging was slightly off-center which allowed one of the sticks to slip free during shipping. However, none were broken, and assume that was just a one-off mistake, if not just something that happened in transit. In any case, if your looking to get into charcoal, or have been in it for a while, this is the set for you. ... show more
