Unlike other instruments when a novice tries to play them it sounds horrible, this makes me, a musical clutz, happy because just strumming it sounds beautiful. Actually learning how to play it may prove just as impossible as all the other instruments I've tried but I don't care because it sounds beautiful to me and calms my frayed nerves just plucking it. I ordered two of these as gifts for the upcoming holidays.. So they haven’t been played. I did lightly play the tines and it had a nice sound. One Kalimba has a slight defect. The last tine on the right is crooked. I haven’t looked close enough yet to see If that tine can be shifted back to the appropriate position. I don’t know if they are easy to learn how to play. ... show more

I got this for my father-in-law who is not able to get out much. As he loves musical instruments & owns several guitars, a harmonica, accordion & mouth harp, I thought this was a great idea. Very fun. Nice mahogany craftsmanship & it comes with a nice case as well as a cloth bag & a tuning hammer. Well worth the money. I myself have already learned a song when I go over to visit weekly.
