Description

There are two shinobue styles: uta (song) and hayashi (festival). The uta is properly tuned to the Western scale, and can be played in ensembles or as a solo instrument. The hayashi is not in the correct pitch, because it is simply a piece of hollow bamboo with holes cut into it. It emits a very high-pitched sound, and is appropriate for the festival/folk music of Japan. This is Uta style. Length 40.1cm/15.787 in

  • A WONDERFUL INSTRUMENT
Yes, it is plastic, but it is WONDERFUL! I am a pro wind instruments soloist & it took me less than 3 minutes to "find" the proper lip placement... Then, GOT AN ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL TONE!!! Once established, I can play so easily... and at many different dynamics (that is, volume: soft, loud, super soft...) with such ease... AMAZING.. No, I am not being paid to write this (don't even know the makers!)... just the truth of my experience... People saying that it "sounds plastic" or "cheap" or "you get what you pay for" have sadly not realized that it is not the instrument, BUT THEM!! (any transverse flute is not easy to play for beginners...) So, again, I AM BLOWN AWAY BY THIS SHINOBUE... I plan even to use it IN PROFESSIONAL CONCERTS &/or FILM MUSIC RECORDING SESSIONS... Kudos to the maker... I WISH THEY MADE THEM IN ALL KEYS.. I'd BUY THEM ALL!! Blessings to all!! ... show more

  • Great beginner shinobue
Wonderful way to start learning the shinobue! Very impressed with the quality and tone for an entry level instrument.

  • Longer flute, slightly different tone from the shorter.
Likes: plastic, cheap, good tone. Dislikes: not much

  • a great start instrument
you get exactly what you expect, which is a good quality plastic shinobue to start learning on.

  • No fingering chart in package!
Perfect condition, but no fingering chart included as in a new flute package.

  • Good beginner’s shinobue
Good for beginners as it’s in tune. The plastic vibrates differently than bamboo and as such it sounds as would be expected from a plastic flute. I am satisfied until I am ready to move onto a bamboo flute.

  • Good!
My biggest concern was the tuning, and it definitely plays in tune! The brand name is Aulos, which is a company that also makes recorders. I’m still getting the hang of it, but from what I can tell it’s a good entry-level instrument. 😃

  • Not for slender fingers
It's a decent flute but my fingers aren't fat enough to seal the holes for different notes. Do not recommend for anyone with slender fingers.
