Description

This is a traditional Japanese TOZAN ryu Shakuhachi, It's made of Madake bamboo what is a giant timber bamboo most abundant in fertile lowland valleys. Smaller diameter, denser bamboos suitable for flute making are found only in mountainous regions and growing under the natural rough circumstances with sunshine and raining. This instrument is very special. By various fingerings -- half- and quarter-holings -- and by controlling the angle of mouthpiece against the lip, all twelve tones of the western chromatic scale can be produced. The mouthpiece consists of an oblique blowing edge whose design is unique in that it enables you to control the pitch produced by changing the angle at which the flute is being blown. It will produces a delicate change of intonation -- a swelling or bending of notes characteristic of the traditional music. The beautiful introverted sounds of shakuhachi music seem closer to nature than to other instrumental forms and are best learned by the ear and heart rather than by the eye and brain. Each flute is evaluated and adjusted to produce an optimum balance in all of the notes played.
