  • Works well, paint comes off
The splitter works well, but i’m not giving it five stars because the black paint came off the splitting blade on the first day of use. Guess I’ll just need to keep it dry.

  • Splits logs like Moses split the Red Sea
Works as advertised. Better than expected. Sturdy and beefy construction. Makes short work of making suitable pieces for my Solo Bonfire. Very pleased bc I don't won't have to worry about chainsawing my leg off for a bonfire.

  • Does the job, could be better
This thing is as advertised. I got it because every year when I buy firewood for my wood stove, there are inevitably logs that could have been split again that are difficult to fit in the stove. This seemed the perfect solution. I just received it today and recently had 3 cords of green firewood delivered for next season. So I took it out and mounted it to a stump near my wood shed. Would have been nice to have it come with bolts but a quick run to the hardware store for some ¼-inch wood screws did the job. My biggest complaint is that the splitting blade is not sharp, at all. It works fine on softer woods or on half-trunk logs, but anything that’s been quartered but is still a touch too big doesn’t budge. Thinking of sharpening the blade a bit to remedy this. But I managed to split a few dozen large logs in an hour or so after mounting it. So overall I’m happy. ... show more

  • Works really well
I like this log-splitter. I just feel safer swinging a sledge-hammer than a maul or axe, and this does just as good a job at making big logs into smaller ones, with a couple of cautions: First, it can only handle logs of a certain diameter. With the wood I was delivered, 9 out of 10 logs fit easily. But if there is the odd branch section sticking out or it's just a little too thick, it won't fit---and trying to make it fit by pounding it in will only get it stuck. So, there's that minor downside. Burn those big ones only after your fire is unstoppable. That said, once you get the hang of tapping logs into place and then giving them a big whack to split them, this thing is actually kind of fun to use. Big logs become small logs, and small logs become kindling, and you can easily knock out whole a weekend's worth in a short time. I got myself an 8-pound sledge, and after a few glancing blows learning how to swing it, I got pretty good at letting the momentum do the work for me. I've been looking for a stump to bolt this to, but none found so far; I think that will make it easier once I find one. In the meantime, it's doing a good job for me on a big sheet of cardboard to act as a bit of cushion for my garage floor. Seems very sturdy, and will definitely outlast me. If you're considering it, I can recommend. ... show more

  • Exactly as advertised
It truly is easy to split wood with this. I don’t like using the axe and my husband isn’t always home to get the fire started in the morning. This has allowed me to confidently split wood and has taken the worry of missing with the axe out of the equation. It isn’t as hard on my back either. It takes significantly less force to hammer through vs swing the axe through a log. My 8yo son has even been able to use it, although he still gets tired quicker than an adult. ... show more

  • Not very durable
Seemed like a good product but...after splitting the fourth log the blade became deformed as shown in the picture. These were smaller logs and had been drying for a year. Will be returning the product. ** Update ** The company sent me a new splitter after reading the above review. This time I used a small hand held sledge to start the split, then finished with a larger sledge. The product then worked as designed. Split 10 logs using this method and the blade was not bent. Do not place a piece of wood on the blade without starting it with either a hand held sledge or small taps using a larger sledge. Once the wood has started splitting, you can use more force to split a log. ... show more

  • Expensive good toy
This splitter is very sturdy. I like the wider opening for those odd shaped pieces. If you do have a knotty piece, this will have a more difficult time trying to split it. Other reviewers have mentioned using a heavier hammer to hit logs with. I agree with that. So far I have only used a regular size hammer. It works on most pieces, but some pieces take a lot of hits before they split. Giving it 4 stars because I think the splitter part should be and could be a sharper piece. It feels very dull and with larger pieces, because of the curve and dull blade, they are harder to split. It can be nailed or screwed down onto a surface, but I just have mine set down on a large log. That way, for those more difficult pieces, I can just pick it up and put it on the ground for more hitting leverage. Don't need to unscrew anything to do it. I would recommend this product for any who don't want to mess with a hydraulic splitter. ... show more
