I am no professional musician, but after jamming with a friend around my ipad which was simply sitting on a chair (for chord and lyric reference), I found that we couldn't both see the ipad very well. I then envisioned a tablet holder mounted on a mic stand, which would conveniently "suspend" the ipad in a good viewing position for both of us, without being obnoxious and difficult to work around. Expecting that someone had already developed something like that I began my search and ended up with this arrangement of telescoping boom mic stand and K&M Universal Tablet Holder - Thread Mount. On-line I found many clamp mount tablet holders, for mounting on a vertical mic stand riser tube (which admittedly would be more stable), but not many thread-mount products, and though this K&M one is an end-mount, I wasn't certain it would work with the telescoping boom. I was thrilled to receive it and found that it works just as I had hoped. See photo. I put my ipad into a Griffin Survivor case for protection from a drop or tip-over of the stand. The case is rather thick, but being a universal tablet holder, it's made to fit a variety of products and therefore the deep tabs provided enough depth to accommodate it (the tablet/case wouldn't want to be any thicker though). After ordering the tablet holder I became concerned that this particular product wouldn't actually fit a full-sized ipad since some of the "works with" info on the Amazon product page only indicated "ipad mini". To be clear, it does work with a standard ipad. Also, not directly related to the tablet holder...I had read of some issues with both the DR Pro or K&M equivalent mic stand drooping under the load of a heavy mic. I didn't want to settle for just a simple upright stand as I wanted the stand set back out of the way as much as possible, with the ipad close for easy viewing. I had some concerns that I wouldn't be able to extend the boom arm much before it drooped under the weight of the ipad and case. While the ipad and case are substantial in weight, I'm pleased to say that it all came together as I had hoped and it works very well and it's quite stable. I can position the ipad at a convenient view height and angle for the best view and both myself and my bass player. I would anticipate many musicians would find this combination of tablet holder and telescoping boom stand very appealing. Very pleased. ... show more

Exactly as advertised -- heavy duty, and very adaptable. One of the little prongs shown in top of photograph has slid off a couple of times, but that is not a major issue for the functionality, just have to be aware that this can happen.

I used to own the K&M iPad 2 holder (which is awesome as well) and an iPad 2. I upgraded to an iPad Air which will not work in the iPad 2 holder. This universal tablet holder is a way for me to future proof my iPad upgrades. Because it's universal it allows for much more flexibility in choice of tablet and size as well as allows me to keep my case on my iPad. It's pricey, but worth it. ... show more

NEW UPDATE: I lowered this one star because it is not that stable. If you bump into it, the whole thing sometimes came apart (maybe because I was using it with about the largest tablet it could handle?). I mostly stopped using it because it was not big enough for the new 13 inch tablet I bought. I bought a mini-tablet stand that plugs on top of the mic stand, which I am now using. It holds my new tablet and I am not as worried about it collapsing if someone bumps into it. UPDATE: I received the new part and installed it to correct the tilt (when used in portrait mode with a large (13 inch) tablet. It seems to mostly has done the trick (there still seems to be s slight tilt). (If you are using this with a larger tablet, you might want to try to make sure the version you are getting has the updated part.) It's a pretty expensive tablet holder. It fits my Toshiba Excite 13 inch in portrait mode (which is the only way I would use it) to read sheet music/music charts. It has a slight tilt (to the left), which I cannot seem to eliminate. I left a comment under their youtube video. They acknowledged the problem (with larger tablets) and said they are working on a fix (good), which should happen in August. I will revise my review based on the what happens. Update: I received an email on 7/12/13 from K&M that they have devised a new part to correct the problem and they would forward it to me. If the part works, it shows real responsiveness. I will update. Still waiting on 7/25/13. I am hoping the part shows up soon. ... show more

I've been using this holder for a while to the point of its daily functioning disappearing, as much as its physical presence is almost entirely hidden from sight. I had just finished a review of a product from the same mfg and saw this product's image among the to-be-reviewed items for my account (that I normally ignore). I've attached several images of the holder as I use it - clamped to a tripod and holding a small audio mixer /recorder controller. When I initially set this up, I didn't trust that the mixer would not slip out of the holder's clamp head. I wrapped the top clamp arms with the fuzzy part of adhesive backed Velcro, and applied two tabs of the toothed part of Velcro to the matching areas of the mixer chassis. I think I had to remove some rubber pads on the holder arms to accommodate the thickness of the mixer. The articulating socket on the back of the holder is very flexible for positioning the holder and its contents, and adds to the rotation flexibility of the attachment arm and super-clamp. I normally use the mixer off to my right side and tilted 30 degrees for visibility and controls access. One negative is the fixed length of the top and bottom holder gripping fingers. Although they wrap around the mixer at the bottom, I would need an extra 3/4" at the top edge to securely wrap, hence the Velcro treatment (which I would have applied under any condition.) Length-adjustable fingers would be useful to accomplish "Universal". ... show more
