  • Its almost a Alpine... All Most.
Style: New Single Din Receiver + CD Player
As I have owned nothing but Alpine since 1984 this was a interesting purchase. If you like setting the bass and treble for nearly every song, you are going to hate this receiver... But here is the good. The volume is like a modern car stereo so you don't blow speakers easily, it doesn't have a filter like some, but limits it to a tolerable distortion level at max volume. Its sound quality is poor at low volume, like when talking to someone, but from 1/4 to 3/4 it absolutely has outstanding clarity and quality for when you are driving. It gets a little fluttery when pushing it hard, but definitely does a decent job. Yes a Alpine will beat it for sound quality at max volume, but do you listen to everything at max? Its loud, clean, and with a handful of bass frequencies and treble adjustments it sounds just as good as any Alpine. It just doesn't at low and max volume. I would buy again for the price, and would recommend it to anyone looking for a decent quality head unit at a cheap price. ... show more

  • Single DIN w/ CD Player
Style: New Single Din Receiver + CD Player
Installed in a '94 Camry because I wanted Bluetooth connectivity but felt a touchscreen would look out of place in an older car and didn't need all of the Carplay etc functionality. I just connect my Pixel smartphone via BT and do everything on my phone, and it works great! High quality unit, all of the controls and button placement is very intuitive and natural, everything just works! Installation was easy. I have NOT experienced some of the Bluetooth connectivity issues others have mentioned - my phone connects very quickly and stays connected. I have no issues and am very happy with this purchase! ... show more

  • Very happy with this radio
Style: Double DIN Receiver
Installed this in a 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan. So far I am very happy with the radio. The colors can be adjusted to make it appear like a factory radio. Sounds good and is on par with a factory radio with the factory speakers. It can go louder and I assume it would pair well with aftermarket speakers as well. Once paired with my phone it set the clock by it's self which was nice. Another nice feature is that when you restart the car it picks back up where you left off streaming Spotify even if you shut the app off in your phone. So glad I bought this instead of a cheaper unit. It is definitely worth the little extra money. You can install this with a cheap adapter you will need to tap 2 wires in the console red will go to your switches cigarette lighter circuit, orange and white go to the lighting circuit positive. 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT without amplifier. The install kit I used was a Scosche ICCR6BN ... show more

  • Huge fan of this head unit
Style: Double DIN Receiver
For the money this radio is incredible. I bought an android auto screen at the same time and they work seemlessly together. This brought my car into the current generation. This radio has plenty of high end features and the sound quality is great. I plan to buy this stereo and pair it with the android auto screens for my other 2 vehicles as well. I don't think anyone would be disappointed with the purchase of this head unit. ... show more

  • Questionable Features
Style: Single DIN Car Stereo
I bought the JVC KD-SX27BT because I wanted to upgrade from my 2015 model Alpine CDE-151 because it didn't have BlueTooth for handsfree phone use. The BlueTooth in this JVC works fine with my iPhone and the sound of the stereo is good too. The radio bands work as I would expect. I think the Aux In would also work fine but I haven't tried it. I set the clock when I installed the stereo and it lost the setting one time after that but I reset it and it has remained set since then. The EQ has several preset choices and there is a manual EQ setting that you can make. Other than those things, the JVC stereo is a disappointment to me. The menus for setting it up are hard to understand and navigate. For some strange reason, the button to enter the menu system is a very tiny one on the right end of the main button row, smaller than the pad of my little finger, and the opposite button to go back a level in the menus is the tiny one on the left end of main buttons. In addition, both tiny buttons are multi-function depending on what you are doing with them. The phone control button is placed below the volume knob and hard to see to quickly answer while driving. I haven't been able to get the search function to work in any meaningful way to search folders of albums on my flash drive. If I just insert a USB flash drive drive, the stereo will play each folder in succession but it's unknown to me how to jump to a specific folder using the search function. I've downloaded the operating manual and read through the section several times while at the stereo and it doesn't seem to do what is written. All I can do is use the forward and backward buttons to cycle through songs or albums in succession. Incidentally, the search button is the tiny one on the left that I mentioned before. I think I can't get it to work because it is a multifunction button that requires some action that I haven't discovered yet and wasn't written about in the manual. What bothers me the most is that there doesn't seem to be a simple way to adjust the bass, mid, treble, balance, or fade without having to go into Audio Settings menu (using those tiny buttons) and backing out of each adjustment to go to the next one. On my old Alpine, I can simply press one button labeled AUDIO and it would cycle through each of those settings, stopping just long enough on each for me to adjust it with the rotary knob, then move to the next one. In the JVC it is dangerous to try going into the menus to adjust them while driving. The display is plenty bright but the data scrolling by on the screen is not presented meaningfully like it was on my Alpine, which would show the folder and track number always on the display, and then the group, album, and song title if I pressed one button repeatedly. The JVC seems to change the order of those things, sometimes showing more or less, and it never shows the folder number. Maybe most people don't use USB music but I have a nice collection that I love to listen to when driving. I decided that my Alpine stereo is way better than this JVC and I'm putting it back in the car. I just ordered a standalone BlueTooth unit that clips on the visor and has speakers, a mic, and controls to wirelessly interface the iPhone for handsfree calling. When a call comes in, all I will need to do is pause the Alpine music manually and touch the Answer button on the BlueTooth unit. I should have thought of that solution before. There's no need to involve the car stereo for phone calls. Maybe my issues won't matter to some people but If I bought another stereo, I'd probably look at Pioneer, Sony, or Kenwood. ... show more
