  • Decision Making Process & First Impressions...Will Update
Style: JumpSport 550f PRO
There are so many fitness trampolines (rebounders) on the market. Since I'm someone who obsesses over purchases, coming to a decision took me a couple of months. I know there are others out there like me, which is why I took the time to explain how I arrived at my decision. If you are someone who just wants the review, skip the part where I give my first impressions. Decision Making Process Criteria *Safety (construction) *Cost (best value) *Materials (Spring vs. Bungee) *Size (size of footprint vs. my personal needs) *Ease of Use (assembly and upkeep) Research Methods *Safety: I watched several videos created by manufacturers and consumers. I looked at the type of bounce each trampoline provided and looked at stability it provided for each bounce. Also looked at how the person looked when bouncing. Last, I looked at manufacturer websites to see if safety was even addressed. Manufacturer reputation was also considered. *Cost: I had no idea how expensive trampolines could be. My budget was flexible to an extent because I wanted to find the best value. Ultimately, I wanted to buy a solid trampoline that would deliver a good workout, without falling apart, or risking injury. Additionally, I considered cost for replacement parts if needed. *Materials: Through my research, I found there are essentially 2 types on the market: Spring & Bungee. YouTube videos really helped me here because I could see both types in action. Ultimately, I wanted something quiet, which is why I went with a bungee type. *Size: My height was the determining factor, I'm 5'8" and wanted something that would give me room to do a modified jumping jack. So I knew I needed something with a larger diameter. Had I only wanted to do the simple "health bounce," a smaller diameter would have been fine. *Ease of Use: I wanted something easy to setup and easy to take apart (if I went with a folding model). Since I decided to go with a bungee trampoline, I wanted to make sure replacing and making adjustments to each bungee would be relatively simple. I had read that spring versions were more difficult to replace, which was another reason why I leaned toward the bungee type. JumpSport vs. Bellicon These were the 2 major bungee trampolines I researched. There are others out there, but these were the 2 I thought stood out over the rest. So I stacked my criteria against each model to help me decide. Overall both brands met my criteria, so it really came down to cost. Bellicon overall, is more expensive than JumpSport. Bellicon models start at 679 dollars, while JumpSport PRO models starting prices around 400 dollars. Obviously, I decided on the JumpSport because I felt the advantages of the Bellicon were more like features found on a high end luxury car, which were not necessary to getting a decent workout (in my opinion). Plus putting things in perspective, even the JumpSport entry models are superior to many of the "cheaper" models on the market. JumpSport Models There are several models and I think all of them can deliver a great workout. Main differences between PRO and non-pro models are the number of bungees and I believe their overall bungee strength. PRO models were designed to be used in commercial gyms, where they would be used several times each day for intense workouts. Some PRO models have larger surface areas as well. For me, it came down to size, as I wanted to have a large enough surface area to do a variety of exercises (remember I'm 5'8"). So my options were narrowed down to the 550 & 570, as those are the largest. Again, cost was a factor as both models are nearly identical. The main factor driving up the cost of the 570 is the skirt that goes around the top of the trampoline. After watching videos, I did not think a padded skirt justified the difference in cost for me, however, it's good JumpSport offers the option for those who might like it. Added bonus, the 550 can be broken down and folded in half for storage. JumpSport 550: First Impressions This was delivered only a few hours ago, but since there are not too many reviews posted on this model, I wanted to at least give my initial impressions with intent to update this review after using it for a few months. *Unboxing: I believe this weighs around 25 lbs. Mine was delivered in a rectangular box with the JumpSport Logo sealed with staples & packing tape. The box is long, but I managed (I'm 5'8"), though it was a bit heavy for me. The trampoline is folded in half, like a taco. Be mindful of the staples as you open the box. It was packed with large chunks of Styrofoam to keep the frame stable during shipment. There's a sturdy plastic strap keeping the trampoline closed, so use strong scissors to cut it. Inside of the trampoline, there is a box containing the legs. Each leg is packaged in bubble-wrap the trampoline itself is encased in a large clear bag. Inside of that box also contains a clever pouch you can use to store the legs if you ever want to breakdown the trampoline. In the main box, you will find a bag containing a fitness DVD and pamphlet showing you how to set up the trampoline. *Assembly: I had a hard time getting the frame open, but there is a card attached to the frame illustrating how to do it. It could just be my model though or operator error on my part (highly likely). One of the benefits to this model is you do not need any tools to screw the legs on, which is nice. Each leg is secured with a twisty contraption (not sure what you call it). All you do is turn the dial until tight and you're done. Each bungee is already attached set to factory settings and easy to adjust. With unboxing and assembly, it took me 25 minutes. I'm not handy or mechanically inclined so it's highly possible to get it set up faster. *Use: Like I said, I haven't really used it yet, but I did test it. Overall, it's very quiet. It seems stable & well constructed. The bounce is great too and I'm excited to start working out on it. Notes About Folding & Storage: Though I wrote earlier in my review that the fact it folds is a bonus, it's not convenient. In fact, when I talked to customer service, the representative advised me not to purchase this model for the folding feature alone. She said the advantage comes into play if you on occasions, like travelling, or longer term storage. I now see why, as you would have to unscrew each leg from the frame to fold it in half, which takes time. Sure, the more you do it, the faster it will be, but it still takes effort to detach and then attach each leg. Bellicon has the option to upgrade to folding legs, but it costs extra. I could see folding legs as a great option for those in smaller dwellings, where it would be space prohibitive to leave the trampoline out all of the time. This way, you could fold in the legs and store it under a bed, sofa, etc., and pull it out for use. I'm not certain if the trampoline frame folds on the Bellicon...so check into that if your curious. ***Update 11/13/13**** I have been using this every 2 days or so since it arrived. One observation about the legs. I find i have to tighten the legs before using the trampoline, as they seem to loosen up during use. If I had stronger hands, perhaps they would stay tight. ****Update 11/29/13*** Still using the trampoline. What's nice is on days when I have a lot of energy, I can do the cardio workout. On other days when I'm not so energetic, I can just bounce on it when watching a TV show, allowing me to go at my own pace. I'll mix up the intensity while bouncing and do my own thing, which adds versatility to this equipment. The legs still get loose after a session of using the trampoline, so I will see if I can get someone with strong hands to tighten them for me. ***Update 02/14/14*** Yup, still using it. However, I'm still having trouble with the legs and find I have to tighten a few of them during my workout...very annoying. I haven't had anyone help me tighten them, but still... ***Update 04/24/14*** Haven't been using this as much, only because I'm lazy. However, I wanted to say wearing Yoga Toeless Socks, 2 Pairs Set, For Yoga and Pilates, by YogaAddict gave me more stability during my workouts. ****Update 03/15/15*** So I admit it, I slacked off from using the rebounder. Two reasons, one having to do with the work; the other having to do with the legs. I found myself having to tighten the legs every 8-10 minutes, which became really frustrating. So much so that I didn't go out of my way to use the trampoline. After revisiting my review of the rebounder, a few nice people suggested I try tightening it with the Allen wrench the trampoline came with. Unfortunately, I couldn't find it (figures), but was able to use a hex key we had in the garage. Anyway, using the hex key, I was able to tighten each leg -- tighter than ever before. Decided to test it out for 10 min and not one leg needed to be tightened! YAY. Side note, having a hex key is so handy! If you don't know what one is, just enter "Hex Key" into the Amazon search field - you will get several hits. I have one that resembles a Swiss Army knife, which contains several sizes. ... show more

  • High quality product for sure
Style: JumpSport 570 PRO
I haven't been on a trampoline of any kind since I was in my teens. I've had countless memberships at various gyms, none of which I went to more than a few times. After realizing that I actually abhor "gyms" - the shared equipment, social aspect, and the locker rooms - I've cycled through many types of home fitness equipment and contraptions. Most of them have taken up a lot of space, and ended up at the good will (or more recently on Craigslist.) So now I'm trying to make smarter purchases. I've watched a few fitness trampoline workouts, and decided that this would be my next purchase. I did a lot of online research/shopping before selecting the 570 Pro (with handlebar.) It is much more expensive than others, but for good reason. It does take up a good amount of space in a room, and with the handlebar (which isn't removable because it mounts on in place of two of the legs,) you can't save much room by setting it on it's side to move it out of the way. So keep this in mind when making your purchase. It's easy to unpack, thankfully without excessive packing material. All components are VERY solid, and there aren't a bunch of washers and nuts and bolts and fiddly junk to figure out (the bolts are actualy inside the legs and are not removable,) so it's super easy to assemble. It took me like 15 minutes to unbox and assemble, and I didn't even need the instructions. The other fitness trampolines I looked at have straight legs, which obviously aren't as stable anyway, but reading the reviews and looking at the customer photos, many of them bend and/or snap off! This was ALL I needed to know about the others - NO WAY would I trust the safety of my body to those cheaply designed contraptions! Also, the bungees or springs are mostly exposed on all the others (or they have the guards which aren't attached to the bounce surface so you can slide under them,) all of which looks terribly unsafe to me! Bellicon is actually more expensive than Jumpsport, and while they do look to be superior to the "cheap" brands (and they do have *some* bungee protection,) they also have the straight legs and a smaller bounce surface. Jumpsport is the only one I saw with bigger bungee guards, and the 570 has the extra "petals," which is even more protection, and which is why I chose it (as opposed to the foldable 550, which is almost as good because it at least has an ample bungee guard, just not the petals.) In addition to those issues, most of the other trampoline's bounce surfaces are so small that they're only good for bouncing or jogging in one small spot, and I really don't see how anyone can get a good, variable workout with such a limitation. Even the Bellicon, for more $$, has a smaller bounce surface and much smaller bungee guards. I'm 5'6, and due to the larger surface on the 570, I can do a pretty decent variety of moves on it, including some modest jumping jacks. Also, following along with the video, it's large enough to use for stomach toning exercises (lying on my back as instructed,) which eases pressure on the lower back because unlike a hard floor or even a flat mat, the trampoline surface gives some. So it's pretty versatile in that respect as well. Because I'm within average height range, I can extend my arms overhead and still not touch an 8' ceiling (although if I tried I'm sure I could,) but "height" doesn't seem to be the objective for this type of workout. If you watch some youtube fitness trampoline workouts, you'll see that they're not intended to be used like a backyard trampoline. So, average height people in a room with standard ceiling height should be fine. I only got this a couple of days ago and have only had a chance to use it twice - it's definitely a GOOD workout! I have pretty high expectations for this trampoline and am really happy that I didn't buy a less expensive one, because it's obvious that you get what you pay for. My ONE complaint, and why I give it 4 stars and not 5 is this: Like another customer spoke of in their review, the weight limit that's posted on the leg(s) is stated as 250 lbs. This is one of those permanent type of stickers from the manufacturer that is supposed to be left on, and not have a sticker stuck over it with contradictory information (which seems to be how Jumpsport tried to resolve his complaint.) I'm pretty sure the website states that it's really 325. This doesn't matter to me, as I don't weigh that much. But if I ever wanted to sell it, it is likely to matter. My husband is 6'7"/270 lbs, so while we both know it's safe for him, someone else in his size range would look at this and probably question it! Jumpsport really should pay closer attention to this and resolve this labeling issue, particularly since people might be purchasing their equipment for their weight ratings. I'm going to be contacting them to request different legs with proper lableing, not "replacement stickers." ... show more

  • Rock Solid - I am so happy that I took the leap of faith
Style: JumpSport 570 PRO
Generally buying from Amazon, especially on items this expensive; well, to be honest with you - it can be a leap of faith for me. I must've read nearly every review on this and other similar items before I punched-in my CC#. The JumpSport 570 PRO is truly amazing, it is precisely as they advertise -- "Gym quality piece of equipment". I am just a couple of months away from being 60 years old, I am 6ft. 2in. tall and I weigh 325 lbs -- not sloppy -- just BIG. When I first stepped onto this trampoline, I expected to hear it creak, pop, or squeal. I also expected the webbing to nearly "bottom-out" -- especially as I jumped up and down on it. This unit held me! It felt safe and it did NOT bottom-out, it never even made a sound! Yes, it is a bit expensive, but everything I buy that is made to support my kind of weight is expensive. With that said, its time to learn a little rhythm and take my first step (rebound) towards getting my weight down to 225. I want to see my late 60's, 70's and 80's (retirement years) a bit more heathier and active. ... show more
