Description

Unlike other pestle and mortars, this stylish design includes a reversible bamboo lid with several functions. Firstly, it helps keep the mortar clean and dust free when stored on a worktop or shelf and features a deep groove on the top to safely hold the pestle when not in use. When removed, the lid can also be turned over and used to place ingredients ready for preparation or even as a small chopping surface. The heavy-weight pestle and mortar are both carved from the same hard-wearing, natural granite, making them perfect for crushing garlic, grinding spices, pounding herbs and making pesto and salsas.     • THIS will grind some herbs!
My wife has a mortar and pestle made of cast steel. It's rusty brown, ugly as hell, and looks like it was cast in 1938. You don't dare think about how to clean it. But it's still in use. I bought a clean new ceramic one and broke it in a week. This granite one is satisfyingly sturdy. It grinds pepper (for example) to a very fine powder indeed! This mortar and pestle looks absolutely fantastic on the kitchen counter, there's nothing like it in the world (and that's why I purchased it). Every other type of mortar/pestle set looks very similar... ...and maybe that's for a reason. While using this mortar and pestle, hard spices have a tendency to jump right out of the mortar and onto your counter or floor. This is super-annoying, especially when you're grinding spices that are expensive. To counter this, you can use your hand as a shield around the edge of the bowl.
