This set of quite small dense foam sponges has a unexpected variability in cube uniformity, which won't affect functioning, (were they cut freehand?). There are one hundred little white blocks suited to be economical disposable color liquid resin applicators to support gradient, organic transitions common in custom nail finishes. The uniform-surfaced foam seems to have reasonably balanced absorbency for applying/releasing the paint. The small size and cuboid shape presents edges, faces or vertices to use, and the four-prong stylus (pen) provides a useful handle for these mini foam blocks. The kit is competitive at around six dollars including the grabber tool and convenient plastic storage box.

I ordered the 100 pieces soft nail sponges with stainless steel grip pen. I love that this set comes in its own clear plastic box for neat storage and organization. The stainless grip pen works very well to grab and hold the sponges for use. The sponges are just the right size to fit into most jar openings, pat paint onto nails, and small enough to not waste material. These work great for gradient painting and aura nails, but I only use these sponges on nail tips so I don’t get gel on skin by accident. I think these sponges with the grip pen are a good value for the money and I recommend.

I was excited to try these for gradient/ombre nail designs, but in my experience they absorb polish far too quickly. Instead of blending the colors smoothly, the sponge soaks up most of the product and leaves a patchy, uneven finish. I was not able to achieve a true ombre effect while testing them. That said, the value is there for the price. You receive a large quantity, and the grabbing pen is a nice addition. However, functionality matters more than quantity when it comes to nail art tools, and these simply did not perform the way I expected.

The sponges and metal grip pen came neatly packed in a sturdy, semi-transparent plastic box. The sponges look a bit like tiny marshmallows and they’re very soft with great elasticity. When using them, they don’t crumble or leave little bits behind, which I really appreciated. Overall, the quality feels better than I expected. If you’re new to doing gradient or ombre nail art with sponges, I’d recommend practicing first before trying it directly on your nails. I remember years ago I used to cut regular makeup sponges by hand to create gradient effects, so compared to that, these are completely ready to use and so much more convenient. The metal grip pen works well for holding the sponges, and it’s also handy for gripping cotton balls, so it feels useful beyond just nail art. Overall, this set makes gradient nail designs much easier and less messy.
