  • Best Clamps I have!
I received this set of clamps several days ago and have been extremely happy with it! I have several Bessey K-body clamps that I use in my shop but I think these Jet clamps are better! Basic design is very similar to the Bessey K-body, with parallel jaws and providing 1,000 lbs of clamping power. But the Jet clamps have bettered what Bessey have made. Plus points of Jet clamps: Deeper throat depth, 4-1/4" compared to 3-3/8" Wider jaws, 1-13/16" compared to 1-7/16" Longer clamp head 6-15/16" compared to 5-1/8" Adjustable rail stop that slides up and down bar Length marking along the length of the clamp The deeper throat and wider jaws allows for more spread out clamping pressure on the parts being clamped. Wider jaws also stabilizes the clamp laterally even more. Also, the sliding rail stop has a slightly wider footprint than the Bessey, giving a very stable clamp. This feature comes in great when you have many clamps that you need to align on a long clamp. One feature that I also love is the slide guide trigger. It locks the jaw in place which I find very useful because I often forget to tighten the Bessey jaw before hanging it back on the rack. When I take the bessey clamp off the rack, the jaw has slid down the bar and hammered my fingers many times! The Jet holds the jaw in place. One down side is that I have to pull the trigger to adjust the jaw open or close. This may be a little troublesome when you are clamping and want to close the jaw onto the wood. You have ti pull the trigger to close the jaw. It doesn't slide close on it's own like the bessey. I don't know which is better, but the jet also has a solid composite grip made of composite material with half of it rubberized. It grips extremely well, even when your hands are messy with glue. Glue cleans up easily. Overall, I love this clamp! Although these clamps are made in China, Don't be fooled because they are very very well made! Solid clamps that will last a lifetime! I think I will have to price my work higher to buy more of these clamps! ... show more

  • Great clamps, I just wish I got the entire product.
These are very, very solid clamps and I can't really find anything wrong with the clamps themselves (other than they're a little costly) But the actual state in which they arrived was pretty poor. The box was torn to shreds and held together with tape. Multiple holes in the container, through which one of the bench dogs disappeared. It's not a huge deal, just be aware that you can't count on any of the small pieces being present when you try to move 20 lbs of metal in a cardboard box across the country. ... show more

  • Amazing clamps
I've been playing with wood for a lot of years, using the traditional pipe clamps and making them work in one way or another. I decided to upgrade to a parallel clamp and after reading several reviews about how Jet had made a better mouse trap, I chose this product and am glad I did. They work extremly well and are very easy to use and adjust. The measurments on the side seemd a bit much at first but have proven very helpful when setting up a project. The 4 pack with stands allows for easy door clamping and the included bench dogs come in handy from time to time. I would also like to add how helpful Acme tool has been with this pruchase. One of the clamps had a broken thumb screw from shipping damage and Acme send me a new one within a few days, no hassel what so ever. I plan to continue building my collection of Jet clamps as $$ permit. ... show more

  • Actual Clamping Capacity
I searched for this information elsewhere and could not find it...hopefully it is useful to someone. The actual clamping capacity, though listed as 24", is closer to 25.5". The lower jaw (the one that moves) has two bars in it. If the jaws are opened wide enough that even one falls off the bar, the clamp will no longer be able to provide any clamping force. However, with the lower bar moved as far is it will go towards the end of the clamp, the jaws sit just shy of 25.5 inches. Tightening down the clamp moves the cross-piece away from the end of the bar, so the full range of motion is available from this position (~25.5 to 24.5). Aa others have remarked, the build quality on these is fantastic. Better even than the Bessy clamps I have used. I had no issue moving the clamp along the bar as some reviewers seemed to have trouble with. TL;DR—the clamp can easily clamp a 24 inch workpiece, and squeeze in a 25.5 inch one. ... show more

  • Superior design and quality
After running through a few less expensive brands of parallel jaw clamps I took the risk and ordered this kit from Jet based on the review/recommendation from Mark Spagnuolo via his pod cast (The Wood Whisperer). I enjoyed these so much that I ordered another full set of four within the month and now I'm looking at getting a greater variety of sizes (saving for 4x of the 60" flavor). While these and the comparable products are almost interchangeable for most shops, it's the subtle differences in design that make the Jet models edge out as a superior product. 3/4" dogs can thread on either end of the clamp (one in the head, one in the adjustable slider at the end of the bar) offer a lot of options in terms of staging them on a work bench. I'm a big fan of the ability to get a positive location with that; no more of expensive clamp crashing to the cement because they were bumped moving the work piece. The grips are comfy, fairly smooth to tighten, and provide a good degree of feedback on how much pressure is being applied (at least in a relative sense). Squeezeout, even dried, comes off the clamping surfaces fairly easily. Interestingly, the ruler marking on the bar itself save a good bit of time in setting them up for a work piece since you can set the jaw to within 1/2" or 1/4" of where you need them before you start the heavy lifting. There's minimal loss of gluing time and a smidgen easier to get positive locations with a caul; not too sure how much that matters, but it's a nice convenience. I've not yet had the occasion to reverse a jaw to use one as a spanner, but I would fully expect similar performance overall. Also, I've used the framing blocks only once or twice, but them seem adequate. The same threaded dogs will screw into the bottom so that they too can be positively located on a workbench. Another nice feature (I supposed) if you need them. I would have given the set a straight five stars, particularly since there's a lot of value for the dollar in the set. But five start is extremely difficult to earn from me (even for Festool). I have had nit-noid little problems like a cap popped off one of the grip handles. Then a dog thread in a clamp head cracked and stripped out. And the rubber caps on the slide releases chronically seem to come off. All minor things, but it does pull the package deal back from the brink of perfection. For a casual user (maybe a few projects a year) there are less expensive brand that will get the job done (the house brand of our favorite green-store comes to mind, particularly since they are on clearance at the time of this writing). If you're involved in multiple projects that necessitate solid construction and the sizes (2x24" and 2x40") this clamp kit is a particularly good value for the money. ... show more

  • JET Customer Service Stinks
UPDATE: While I rate JET customer service 1 star, I rate Amazon customer service 5 stars+ and always have over the years. Needless to say, Amazon responded within 2-3 hours to my email (copied below) and has more than satisfactorily responded. They provided multiple options for addressing the problem and have more than "made me whole." Kudos to Amazon. A big Bronx cheer for JET Tools. This is not a review of the product. I just received it yesterday. This is a review of what to expect if something goes wrong. I have just sent the comments provided below to Amazon customer service and their decision is not known at this point. We shall see on that score. Nevertheless, I feel strongly enough about JET'S So-Called Customer Service today that I wanted to share my experience. "I have contacted the manufacturer of Jet and they claim they can't help me because the Amazon order number has no meaning. I told them exactly what the order was, tried to emphasize how relatively minor the problem and provided the Amazon number but they aren't interested -- procedures are procedures. They said they had to have THEIR order number. They told me SORRY BUT YOU HAVE TO CONTACT AMAZON. I explained the implications of having to return the entire product. Please note: This is a very heavy package and what is actually missing are extremely small parts. If it becomes necessary I will request a return and would expect Amazon to pay the shipping costs both ways. Alternatively, and from my standpoint preferable, Amazon can obtain the missing parts and simply replace them. This is not as difficult as it might sound since the missing parts are sold/offered separately... on/through Amazon's site. I wouldn't even bother with what I am doing now (because of the small amount involved) but this process had definitely raised my dander. The above order is a 12 piece set. What is missing are the four "Bench Dogs." These probably weigh less than 1 lb. collectively. They are a minor part of the package. The package as a whole probably weighs 80 lbs. Shipping costs (not originally paid because of super saver shipping) were indicated at almost $28. Multiply this by two if I need to return the order. Replacing the bench dogs would cost roughly $10-$12 without the all the fuss of dealing with a return and at a significant cost savings to Amazon. Please let me know what you want to do. Chase down and send the Jet bench dogs or have me return the whole works. Just for the record I find this very annoying and am rather put off by Jet's so-called customer service. I probably will never buy another product from that company. As an alternative case in point, I ordered an expensive router table within the last two weeks that also had minor problems... small damage and missing parts. The manufacturer (Kreg) was smooth, efficient and shipped the same day and didn't engage in bureaucratic maneuvering. Thus, there was no contact with Amazon and the customer was pleased. It doesn't have to be the Jet way of doing business. " ... show more

  • Great if you get ones that hold.
The ones that work are great, have 2 of the 4 that won't hold at all. I think the grooves wear not cut deep enough.

  • Heavy duty cabinet bar clamp set
The set of two 40" and two 24" bar clamps plus assorted accessories is designed for heavy duty -- to glue up raised panel doors or cabinet frames or whole cabinets. The accessories that come with the full set of four clamps let you align them at 90 degree angles for glueing up cabinet doors and cabinet frames, and you can buy additional individual clamps in several lengths. If you don't build furniture, you probably won't have much use for these clamps but if you do, they're perfect. The clamp jaws are faced with non-marring plastic. The jaws are wide enough and long enough to hold large pieces securely. The steel I-bars on which the jaws ride are wide enough to resist flexing and the whole rig feels like a heavy duty truck. The mechanism for releasing and quickly moving the jaws is a bit clunky but it's very useful for quick set-up. The set is too heavy to use on smaller assemblies, but for bigger jobs it's vastly superior to the kind of bar clamps you can buy at Home Depot. ... show more
