I ordered this from Amazon and it arrived with no problems. The packaging was strapped to a pallet which was actually a nice touch in terms of being able to move it around. For a reasonably heavy item, the drill came unscathed and in perfect condition which doesn't always happen. Setup took less than an hour. I'm a tall person and getting the head onto the stand was not overly difficult for me (with a helper). However, I do recommend that two people be available to put the head on. The head is heavy and clumsy and assembly solo could be frustrating. Out of the box, the drill was set to the lowest drill speed which was great for me given that most of what I needed it for right away was metal work. I've drilled 5/8th inch holes through 3/8th inch plate (staging from a small drill size up to the 5/8 size) without a speck of problem (going easy with cutting oil). Adjusting the drill for lifting or dropping the table is very easy. I haven't changed the drill speed yet but looking at it, I'm quite sure it's relatively straight forward (standard two belt setup). Overall, I'm very happy with this tool as I have drilled quite a variety of metal components with it and it hasn't given me any concerns or worries. ... show more

Works well, great for smaller spaces and general wood working. If planning on use for metal work look into larger presses, however for a home wood shop this tool is a great investment.

After assembly, this drill press worked fine -- once. The next time it was switched on, the motor hummed for a while without moving and then, after a few seconds, tripped the circuit breaker. I tried taking the load off the motor, and checked the wiring and start capacitor for problems, but then gave up for a while and emailed Jet customer support. Unfortunately, Jet does not seem to provide substantive support over email, so I had to find time during business hours to call, wait on hold for a while, and talk to a rep. The rep was not able to provide any useful help ("try a bigger circuit breaker, buddy"), so I did some more reading, knocked open the motor case, and found the problem: a little nub on the rotor casting was causing the centrifugal switch to catch in the open position, so the start winding could not engage after the first operation. Now the drill press works well enough, although some of the machining and workmanship (e.g., on the table surface) is pretty rough, and the transmission design makes it hard to reduce vibration. At the end of the day, it was sort of fun to learn how AC induction motors work so I'm not really upset about this, but: (1) Jet's quality control needs some work, and (2) they ought to have better customer support and service policies given the difficulty in returning machines of this size and the premium they charge over some other importers. ... show more
