I was a music major 50 years ago and decided to start playing again. So I bought a Mendini By Cecilio. It was cheap and good enough to learn on. But the valves started getting worse and worse, and I could tell the sound wasn't so good. So I found this one on sale for less than $400. It's as different as night and day. I can hit notes that I thought were out of range. The valves are so smooth it took me a while to get used to them. The third valve slide actually worked right out of the box, and notes using the third valve sound better than the Mendini even without using the slide. The intonation is superb. You can feel it resonate through your hands. You can go from a low register and reach up and grab high notes easily. At times the notes are smooth as a tenor sax. I had wondered why my old horn sounded so bad compared to anyone elses. I thought it must be me. It wasn't. The Mendini got me to a higher level, but compared to the Jean Paul it's just a toy. I've always wanted a Yamaha, or maybe a Bach, but I don't think either would be much better than this Jean Paul. And I still feel the same two weeks later. ... show more

I just received my trumpet. I had not played trumpet in decades but my son and granddaughter play. I was spurred on to re-learn so that we could record a 3 generation set of music as a legacy. First, the trumpet was well packaged and arrived as advertised and in short order. The fit and finish were excellent in my opinion but the most important item was a nice bright sound. For me playing this trumpet was similar to riding a bike, you don’t forget. So very pleased with the sound, the case it came in , the overall quality finish, and the price. I began playing at 10 years old. I had a beat up Conn then a sweet Olds Special used but excellent condition. The Olds was good. Then at 16 I bought a Getzen Eterna Severinson model. I loved it. I played it all through college on tour with a musical variety show. I played E above high C regularly in the shows. I bought new but buying a used one would cost $1000. I sold it two years past and can't afford to replace it. Now I am glad I didn't. This Jean Paul TR-430S (in silver) beats them all. High register low register clear full sound. Construction is sturdy and immaculate! Thumb saddle with 1st valve tuning and adjustable 3rd valve tuning slide super smooth. The valves themselves are flawless. As smooth or smother than the Getzen. Finish is beautiful. And the valve tops are a slightly pink mother of pearl! I never had it so good! ... show more

I purchased this item because I saw many great 5 star reviews. I am still looking for a horn in this price range to suit my needs as I grow into a pro upper brass player and teacher (coming from woodwinds). The valves are good and come fully lubricated. The mouthpiece it comes with isn't the best 7c, but it plays. The finish had some blemishes around the bell (oxidation around the edge?) that I was not a fan of. The rest of the horn was spotless and pristine. I gave it a try for 2 days and decided to return the instrument. My (vintage) King 600 USA student trumpet sounds and plays better than this horn no matter what I mouthpiece I use. I need a horn that resonates and has a bigger bore. I can put more air through that horn, and less through this one. This horn is easy to play. It's good for what it's advertised for, (quality student horn on a budget), but don't expect this to be a substitute for a made-in-USA pro brass instrument. I wanted to buy my son a new trumpet because he had been playing his uncle's old trumpet for 3 years. We went to our local music store and left with my son wanting the $3,000 Bach Strad. We did not purchase it due to the price, but my son sure loved the way it sounded. I did a lot of research trying to find a great trumpet for him. His band director generally does not approve purchasing online instruments. However, after I found this trumpet by Jean Paul, I sent our band director the link, and links to numerous reviews of this trumpet. He thought the reviews looked great and he allowed this trumpet to be used in his class! Here are a few reviews I found helpful for the Jean Paul trumpets (Amazon would not allow the links to be included, but here are the descriptions): a youtube video by the Juilliard School of Music (this is for the student model, not the pro, as he states), and two articles on My Best Trumpet titled “My Experience with Jean Paul TR-330 vs TR-430 Trumpet Review” (the reviewer actually ends up buying the TR-430 for himself) and “Jean Paul TR-430 Trumpet Review - My Experience.” After reading reviews and watching videos, we chose the TR-430 silver trumpet. My son was THRILLED with it! He couldn't believe how great it sounded and how nicely it played. He played it for his band director, and he liked it too. All of the other trumpet players in his class were quite jealous of this new silver trumpet!! My son has been playing it for over a month and it's been fantastic. The company, Jean Paul, is also a great company! When the trumpet came without oil, I contacted Jean Paul and asked if it should have been included or not. They said it should have been, and sent me two bottles for the inconvenience! I received them immediately. We are so glad we found this trumpet, and I can't say enough good things about it or the Jean Paul company. I would definitely recommend this trumpet and this company to everyone! ... show more

Just got it. It was ready to play right out of the box. I gave it a full inspection and it was excellent! All slides and valves were smooth, valves were fast. Intonation was good and easily corrected. I've been playing it ever since I finished checking to make sure there were no physical issues. It plays easily. Very nice horn! ... show more
