I'm approaching 60 years old, and after decades of enjoying high-end home audio, car audio, headphones, and portable speakers, it takes a lot to truly impress me. The JBL Xtreme 5 has done exactly that. I currently own the JBL Charge 6, a PartyBox 110, and a PartyBox 710, so I'm not comparing the Xtreme 5 against small portable speakers—I'm comparing it against some of JBL's most respected products. What surprises me most is that I find myself reaching for the Xtreme 5 more than any of them. In fact, since purchasing the Xtreme 5, I rarely listen to my PartyBox 110 or even my PartyBox 710 anymore. That's something I never expected to say. The reason is simple: JBL achieved something remarkable with this speaker. The Xtreme 5 delivers an incredible amount of power and sound quality while maintaining a compact footprint that can easily move from room to room or travel anywhere. It offers the perfect balance between portability and performance. The sound itself is absolutely breathtaking. The first thing I noticed wasn't the volume—it was the detail. Songs I've listened to for years suddenly revealed instruments, background vocals, and subtle nuances that I had never fully appreciated before. Every sound intended by the artist is presented with clarity and precision. Whether I'm listening to Steely Dan, classic rock, jazz, blues, R&B, or modern music, the Xtreme 5 brings every track to life. Vocals are crystal clear, instruments sound natural, and the bass is deep, rich, and controlled without overwhelming the rest of the music. What really sets this speaker apart is how clean it remains at higher volumes. Many Bluetooth speakers become harsh or muddy when pushed hard. The Xtreme 5 simply gets bigger while maintaining its composure and detail. The Charge 6 is an excellent speaker and still amazes me for its size, but the Xtreme 5 takes everything to another level. It provides a larger soundstage, deeper bass, greater dynamics, and a more immersive listening experience while still being compact enough to carry anywhere. At this stage in my life, very few products exceed my expectations. The JBL Xtreme 5 did exactly that. It has become my go-to speaker and has largely replaced speakers that are significantly larger and more expensive. I own a lot of JBL speakers but I’ve always looked past the Xtreme line, until now. I picked this one up and it’s really REALLY good, but the price tag kinda kills the party. Pros: -Carry strap(Detachable) -Gets SUPER LOUD! -App and custom EQ( check mine out on the pics, it really makes this speaker shine) -28hrs of playtime( Also the battery is replaceable so this speaker could essentially last a forever) - The charger is actually included in the box along with the wall adapter - Bluetooth 6.0 for a very good stable connection - The lights are a nice addition - IPX68 water & dust proofing , you can take this speaker anywhere you desire! Cons: $399 is a bit to expensive As I used this speaker more I really enjoy listening to music on it, nice deep bass and very detailed audio comes out of the subwoofer and the 2 tweeter setup that this thing is rocking. It outputs 90 watts of straight THUMP, plug it in and you get more power at 130 watts!. Given all of that this speaker is an easy recommendation!… but not for $399, I’d wait for a sale hopefully around prime day and hopefully it drops to around $299-$329. If I could give it 10 stars I would! I originally purchased Xtreme4 and it was ok but I wasn't all that impressed a week later found out Xtreme 5 was coming out so I returned the 4 and pre ordered the 5. Wow! You can actually feel the bass with the 40hz unlike the 4 and Xtreme5 just has much more open and balanced sound also the 4 sounded nasally no bass and lots of mid range when you turned it up over 50% volume the xtreme5 still sounds great when you crank it up. There is no speaker this size and weight that can compete its getting closer to the sound of the boombox4 but half the size so if your looking for something more portable with big sound this is it! ... show more

Expensive and tbh idk if it’s worth it. 150 more and I could have bought a party box or boombox but sound quality is very good and I can’t complain at all. If I had to remake this decision to buy an expensive speaker I would have gone to Best Buy and tested out all Jbl speakers before buying but at the end of the day I am very satisfied with the Xtreme 5. Only thing I haven’t tested out is its battery life but I don’t expect much for a speaker with this much power. But I’ve been able to play it a medium volume for easily 3 hours before I plug it back in and it doesn’t take much time to fully recharge after that. ... show more
