  • UPGRADE
UPGRADE DURING DASH REPAIR ON 78 VETTE

  • Better then stock but not great
For the price they are not bad. The speakers are high pitched but not good with bass. Very loud compared to the stock I took out.

  • These are great speakers...BUT
First and foremost in the Item description "Adjustable mylar-titanium tweeter" implies that the tweeters are adjustable, They are NOT. I was looking forward to dialing these in and that will not be possible. After searching, JBL does not make this claim Certain tweeters in the GTO series are adjustable and I would guess that is where the written description was borrowed from. These are great speakers and would probably get 5 stars in the right location but, if you install these in an older 90's Chevy truck don't expect the impossible. For example, the front speaker location on a Chevy truck has no speaker box and there is no simple way to modify the enclosure because of the poor Chevy design. This is not the fault of the JBL 4x6 speaker, in the right box the GTO6428's sound great driven from a standard radio without an amplifier. If the speakers are installed into the factory Chevy location without modification your speakers will have a low quality free air sound. The sound starts at a high mid range and goes up with no mid low end to speak of. If you seal off the location with some Dynamat the sound and lower end will improve a little. The large magnet on the GTO6428 speakers squeezes right up against the air duct making it very difficult to completely seal up. In a Chevy truck you'll need some tight subwoofers to handle some of the lower midrange. Overall with a truck, I would suggest getting a set of the cheaper and more popular 6.5" speakers and then install them in another location, like the doors for better sound. If you have a nice location with a sealed enclosure then by all means pick up a set they are better than the factory speakers. ... show more

  • Inexpensive generally means cheap
Started out okay. Got these for the dash position on my truck. Not a demanding position for the speakers. They worked well with my "way to nice for the truck" head unit for about 7 months then pop went one and the other is giving telltale signs of failure. Kind of expected a little bit more from JBL. There's no amplifier or whatnot in the truck that could have caused this. I'm just writing this set of speakers off as a "you get what you pay for" lesson. ... show more

  • Good mid range sound for the price !
I installed mine into my 06 Jeep tj. For the price they sound great and much better then the factory speakers. They are 35watt rms per speaker so they can’t take too much volume or they start to distort with my stereo, but they do have a good mid sound and adjusted my treble down some and they sounded clear. they are a good buy if you’re not trying to make yourself heard through the neighborhood and just want good clear mid range sound. ... show more

  • Factory Bose Replacement
Installed in the rear doors of a 2004 GMC Sierra SLT extended cab. Truck has factory Bose and OnStar. Currently using a Pioneer AVH-X2600BT head unit installed with a Metra Axxess GMOS-04 interface and steering wheel control module to keep factory functionality. Had been having problems with the factory Bose speakers, the magnet fell off of one of the rears, and the front driver's side speaker was fading in and out, causing issues with both playback and the factory chime. Installed these with JBL GTO628 speakers in the front, whole install took about 1 1/2 hours to complete, going slow, and checking to ensure each speaker was working correctly. These work well with the factory Bose amplifier, I did not have any volume loss or any other issues. They sound good, seem to mix well with the factory tweeters. I listen to mostly rock/metal, and a lot of podcasts, and so far I am pleased with this purchase. I would recommend these for an easy replacement for factory Bose speakers without having to replace everything in the system, I spent just over $100 on all four speakers and the Metra 72-4568 harnesses, and most of what I was seeing was $40-$60 for 1 Bose speaker. ... show more

  • Perfectly matched for 35 watt aftermarket stereos
Finally, a range of speakers designed to work well as a factory replacement. No need for an amp with these, plenty of volume, while maintaining clarity. Of course there are (or at least in the ones I recieved) no speaker wires, so make sure you have what you need, and pay attention to the polarity. They will work (for a while anyway) in reverse polarity, but they will sound horrible. Do the homework and wire them correctly an you will be surprised at the sound quality. I hooked these to a Blaupunkt Nebraska head and have 6 1/2" BP speakers in the front doors. These as an exact fit in the rear, but again, make sure you are prepared to either buy adapter wiring (here on Amazon) that will make them plug-and-play. Classic rock hasn't sounded this good in my truck EVER! ... show more

  • So my main point is if you enclose these speakers it brings out the best in them
Had 4" round jbl speakers in my doors that sounded okay. Ordered these to replace them. And when I did I sealed up the doors and wow! These speaker are unbelievable for their size, I installed the 4" round in the back and built a small enclosure for them and what an improvement. So my main point is if you enclose these speakers it brings out the best in them, if you don't they sound a little tinny but still okay. I was just hoping to get decent sound for my 1972 mustang convertible, much better than expected. Highs are great, mids are good. Bass is okay for a small speaker but I added a bazooka 8" and the system is near perfect.don't ever right reviews but these were worth it, especially for the price. ... show more
