Not cheap, but a great sounding speaker for the size. Of course, you're not going to get a stereo image out of a single speaker, but it sounds good for what it is. We have it on the counter in our kitchen, and I use it while cooking and eating. More than powerful enough to be heard over the super loud downdraft exhaust fan on our stove when cooking. I'm a recording/mixing/mastering engineer, so I'm picky about sound. Sure, this is not as good sounding as my studio monitors, but it serves its purpose and is much less expensive and smaller than my studio monitors. I'm using primarily Amazon Music which it has built-in support for (among several other services), and there are no issues with that for the most part. Once in a while I have to login again to my Amazon account. Or, on rare occasions, this speaker gets disconnected from the network, but is easily fixed by simply unplugging and plugging in again. It does have a wired ethernet connection if you want a more reliable network connection, but I didn't have an ethernet port nearby and the wifi signal where the speaker is located is not great. The main reason I got this type of speaker is that it streams directly from the services via WiFi, as opposed to a cheaper Bluetooth only speaker that would use the lower quality Bluetooth audio format. So, with Amazon Music HD, you can get at least CD quality, lossless audio, which is important to me. You can set it up for Alexa to use voice commands to start streaming from Amazon music, or you can use the Amazon Music App on your phone to connect to the speaker and stream in HD (as opposed to Bluetooth), as the speaker will still do the streaming itself and the phone is just the interface. The JBL One app is nice for setting this up and for control volume and such, but it misses out on some features of the Amazon music app, such as the ability to shuffle a playlist. ... show more

This JBL Authentics 200 is a terrific smart speaker. The sound is excellent! I like the manual dials on the top. Setup is fast and easy. Please note that the JBL mobile app is not necessarily designed to be a comprehensive media player-- so keep reading-- though it may work for the most basic purposes. The JBL app configures the equalizer (optionally), enables or disables the feedback tone (speaker button sound), configures each speaker's "Moment" hardware button (optionally), and can create a stereo system from a pair of speakers (optionally). The app's natively supported music services are Amazon Music, Calm Radio, iHeartRadio, Qobuz, Tidal, and TuneIn. Using this Moment hardware button is not required. It is just a shortcut, favorite, or "preset" button. Native Wi-Fi streaming can also be configured for AirPlay, Roon Ready, Spotify Connect, and Tidal Connect. Voice Assistant can be configured for Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. You will likely want to use a third-party media player to manage playback. This is fine and actually a good idea because you can select from a large number of versatile mobile apps. The speakers support Google Cast quite well. For better or worse, some apps refer to this feature as Chromecast. You can group speakers for concurrent playback via the Google Home mobile app. I installed the Symfonium mobile app as my media player on my Android phone and found that it works flawlessly with the speakers. I have two of the JBL Authentics speakers in a group as configured via Google Home, and they both play well together. After the speakers to go sleep (standby), I do have to activate them in Symfonium again, but this takes only a second. Symfonium is highly configurable and is an advanced player that can handle just about any need. Symfonium supports the local device, Plex, Emby, Jellyfin, Subsonic, Kodi, OneDrive, Box, Google Drive, pCloud, WebDAV, and Samba as media providers. My locally networked QNAP NAS has Plex media server, so I added Plex as a media provider in Symfonium. In the Plex media console, I sort my library by album artist. I then create a Plex playlist, which Symfonium can then access and play on the JBL speakers via Google Cast. Everything works together seamlessly; I was surprised! It has been over a decade since I bought a brand name, quality speaker. The price gap is large and I was concerned that I wouldn’t really be able to hear the difference. I’ve avoided buying something like this for years. Oh my god I was wrong. I went from being concerned about the price and return to buying a second one in like 48 hours. The sound quality is spectacular. I am not an audiophile, not a musician, but the difference between this and a common sound bar or computer speaker or Google home was immediately evident to me. And I am not talking about “plays well at high volume”, even at low volume the sound is noticeably different. The bass even when quiet stands out, you feel it in your gut. The higher notes are highlighted, it’s really just impeccable. The setup is pretty streamlined - it does take a little long to receive email confirmation if you choose to register but that’s forgivable. I run a variety of devices that often don’t have amazing compatibility - iOS, windows, Linux, and I stream from a variety of platforms and I have found no issues here. The integrations(like pandora) are a little clunky, but they’re always a little clunky. At the very least they were easy, and par for the course with anything I’ve ever used. The controls are simple. Read the little booklet or use the app and you won’t feel lost, or feel it’s so complicated that you need to keep the booklet around. Overall just a fantastic purchase. ... show more

I bought the JBL Authentics 200 based on the fact that it was almost 50% off. Always wanted to try it out. The main thing I am using it for is to play my cd player through it. I tried it out before going on the app, and I was very disappointed with the sound using the bass and treble controls on the speaker. But then I went on the app and used the 7 bar custom 3 equalizer, and the difference was night and day. Amazing sound, great bass, and now I am keeping it. ... show more

It's not bad, but a couple of issues make me wish I had picked something else: - on a regular basis it won't play my Spotify music. Spotify shows it's playing, I can even change volume of the speaker, but there's no sound. It doesn't happen with my other wireless speakers - microphone sensitivity is not as good as even a cheap Alexa device ... show more
