Description

The Sewist 721 is built on the principles Janome has held since 1921: precise engineering, durable materials, and features that make sewing easier without overcomplicating it. At 14.8 lbs with a carry handle and hard cover included, it works as both a travel sewing machine and one that confidently sits on a dedicated sewing table. For beginners and casual users who want a sew machine they can trust for years, this is a compelling starting point. The die-cast internal aluminum frame is the structural detail that separates the Sewist 721 from the pack. It keeps the compact sewing machine stable under use, reduces vibration, and contributes to the kind of longevity that Janome is legendary for. The patented needle plate markings add another layer of precision — showing needle drop position, angle guides, and front-of-foot references directly on the plate, so placement is exact from the first stitch to the last. 21 built-in stitches cover the everyday range: straight, zigzag, stretch, decorative, and a 4-step buttonhole. The stretch stitch adjustment dial makes knit fabrics workable without switching machines, and the foot pressure adjustment handles everything from lightweight voile to denim with a simple turn of the dial. Drop feed kicks in for free motion work without any plates or accessories. Snap-on feet change in seconds, and the one-hand needle threader means setup doesn't slow you down. Bright LED lighting keeps the needle area well-lit during long sessions, and the top-loading full rotary hook bobbin loads cleanly with a see-through cover so you always know how much thread is left. Everything about the Sewist 721 reflects the same philosophy: reduce the friction, make the sewing experience feel effortless, and build it well enough that you're still using it a decade from now. If you want a simple sewing machine from a brand that's been doing this for over 100 years, this is it.

  • Happy sewing
Style: Janome 721
This is a great sewing machine works wonderful. It is simple to operate and offers a variety of stitches and I just dial them in no computer. Not loud and light weight. What a deal on the price. Jerome is a company I will buy for my daughter great quality.

  • Lightweight, easy to understand, and sews great
Style: Janome 721
This is a great sewing machine. Lightweight and easy to travel just 15 lbs, just what I was looking for. This is my 4th Janome machine. My main machine is 30 lbs so this one is a treat to handle. It is a manual so not a lot of fancy stitches and no auto cut off but runs and sounds good right out of the box. Very pleased Diane ... show more

  • Great machine, way better than Brother
Style: Janome 721
Great machine. Easy to figure out, easy to use. I don't regret buying this after using a crappy Brother entry level machine for years. I'll likely never need to buy another one.

  • Fantastic Garment-sewing machine
Style: Janome 721
If you want to sew garments, this machine can do most anything. It is almost identical to my Baby Lock Zeal, except the Janome Sewist 721 has a 4-stop buttonhole process while the Zeal has a 1-step process (like the Janome Sewist 725S). This is a solid, durable machine with a metal frame, unlike cheap no-name brands. As a non-computerized machine, it is very dependable and should be cheap to maintain & repair, if it ever needs repairs. It's a workhorse that can sew cottons like men's shirting, canvas, denim, jersey, poplin, sheeting, & lawn; has no problem with woolens; and sews linen with aplomb. If I had to pick 1 thing that really distinguishes the Sewist 721 from other lower cost mechanical machines, it's that it has a presser foot pressure dial. This lets you control how much pressure to put on the fabric, squeezing it between the foot & the feed dogs. Lighter, thinner fabrics need less pressure, as do certain sewing processes, like basting & putting on an appliqué. It's also good for knits like jersey. It operates very smoothly with no jams except for my beginner mistakes. One of the best low-cost machines out there. Get the Sewist 725S or BabyLock Zeal if you want a 1-step buttonholer. Otherwise get this machine. ... show more

  • Quality of manufacturing
Style: Janome 721
Love this machine. I have never owned a Janome sewing machine and have been completely impressed with the quality It doesn't slide around on my table and is much faster than any of my other machines. The automatic threader has taken some getting used to as it's a little more complex than my previous machines, but I'll get used to it. Would recommend this for intermediate sewers. ... show more
